Boniva for bones

Common Questions and Answers about Boniva for bones

boniva

Avatar f tn Bisphosphonates like Boniva have been associated rarely with uveitis. You would experience ocular pain, blurred vision, light sensitivity, loss of vision and possibly glaucoma if you had uveitis. Your ophthalmologist would be able to tell you right away if you had any uveitis and the Boniva could be discontinued if that were the case.
Avatar n tn HOW CAN I SUE DEPO PROVERA WHICH I WAS ON FOR 8 YEARS AND BY AGE 25 I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE OSTEOPOROSIS AND I AM 29 NOW AND CONTINUE TO BREAK BONES IN JUST SIMPLE ACTIVITIES. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND CANT FIND ANY ONE TO TAKE THE CASE?
Avatar f tn I was taking the hormones to help my bones, as I have osteopenia and rheumatoid arthritis. I am on prescription drugs to help the bones (Boniva and calcium and vit. d). I'm worried about breast cancer with continuing the hormones. I had a partial mastectomy on my right breast which was benign. I had a cluster of microcalcifications which looked supicious, but turned out to be benign (big sigh)! Okay now my question.
Avatar f tn I just went for a Dexa-Scan for my Osteoporsis. The technician looked at my med list and asked if I am taking Boniva and Synthroid. I answered yes. I take other meds other than those two she mentioned. I told her that I understood why she asked about the Boniva but I didn't understand why she asked about Synthroid. She told me that thyroid meds take from the bones and causes osteoporosis. WHAT??? How come no doctor ever told me?
Avatar n tn I recommend checking out the website "Save Our Bones". It is an alternative to using bisphosphonates (Fosamax, Boniva, Actonel, et al) These drugs interrupt the remodeling of bones by adding a "sheath" or layer of hardening to the outside of the bones in an effort to prevent bone "loss". Bones remodel (replace) naturally every few years. One of the problems with bones is our diets are often highly acidic by processed foods.
Avatar n tn And I can no longer pet my cats which feels like my hands have been in fiberglass. My bones are so sensitive that it hurts to even sit on a soft chair. It has been a terrible experience which I regret.
Avatar f tn Ray Oyakawa Thank you for your response. I noted that for the last several months whenever I took Boniva I had significant swelling under both eyes. Thus, when this past Sunday, 5/23 I developed the papilloma on my left lower eyelid (center) which at first seemed to have a point on top & next day became more elongated I thought Boniva. I would appreciate any feedback as to cause & what possible treatment. It, not very large & seems to be same size this first week.
Avatar n tn How good is bonista injections, to strengthen the bones? This discussion is related to Bonista-side effects.
Avatar f tn Hi, I posted on Community, but really meant to ask my question here. I recently had a mammogram which showed findings of a cyst. I needed additional views, so I returned three days later for a second mammogram of the left breast only, and it showed a nodule. I had an ultrasound the same day which showed an 8 mm benign cyst and several other subcentimeter benign cysts, some with low internal echoes (what are internal echoes?
Avatar m tn But magnesium, as well as some trace minerals such as boron, are also essential for bone strength. In bones, calcium and magnesium are in electrical balance opposing one another in maintaining the strength of the bone. Too much calcium will leach magnesium out of the body (and vice versa) and out of the bones, making them brittle. This is also a result of using forms of calcium that are not good ones, such as hydroxyapatite.
Avatar f tn in 2009 my numbers had worsened by 5%, even with Boniva, then Fosamax. I have many of the symptoms of hyperparathyroid, most notably new dx of A-Fib in the last year. What should I do? Should I be concerned?
212161 tn?1599427282 does anyone take Boniva and how bad were the side effects
294425 tn?1288528395 Hi, Rita. I don't have osteoporosis, but I do have osteopenia (less than 2.5 standard deviations off). Have been treating this for many years, first with Boniva, then with Reclast. I'm way overdue for another Reclast infusion. For the last one, I didn't feel great for a day or so afterwards, but it wasn't all that bad either. I really doubt that this has anything to do with MS meds. It's largely hereditary, but aside from that, who knows?
Avatar f tn Must say the proverbial "When it rains it pours". Bone density..Hmmm You may not want to go the Fosamax route so there are a few other ideas you may want to try. As a personal trainer for the last 20 years I had bones of steel. When liver disease took a hit at me I didn't work out for almost a year, at least the heavy weights. To my surprise I was diagnosed with Osteopenia. The only way you can increase bone density is thru weight bearing excersices.
717272 tn?1277590780 When I looked bone loss up in reference to TX meds I was shocked to see that ribavirin can cause bone loss and that protease inhibitors (took one for 6 mos. of TX) also cause it. Anybody else happen across bone loss after they finished TX? Anyone happen to have a bone density scan before and after TX to compare? My question is "Is it reversible after the meds all finally get out of your system"?
Avatar f tn I am 48 yrs. old and was diagnosed with b/c in July of 2008. I have undergone a lumpectomy, chemotherepy -AC/T and radiation. I finished this course last spring. I was also on tamoxifen until about four weeks ago. I had an ooferectomy almost 2 weeks ago as a precaution, as my mother died of ovarian cancer at the age of 59. I felt great until I started Arimidex on Tuesday, and now I feel horrible.
Avatar f tn I developed osteoporosis (only 52) and my gyno-onc had me see an endocrinologist. I now take Boniva- once monthly plus a mult-vit, calcium, and vit-D twice a day. My last scan showed improvement. He wanted me to go on hormone replacement but my gyno-onc would not hear of it.
Avatar f tn extremely swollen right leg especially around knee joint - could not even bend knee, terrible hip pain and two days later a tooth abscess. What are the chances I can tolerate Boniva once a month? My Endocrinologist wants me to try it.
Avatar n tn She does not have any cramping, but they are watery. This all started when she began to take Boniva several months ago. She stopped taking it 2 months ago. I have suggested that it has not all left her system yet and this may take some time. She has not changed her diet or any meds. She is a creature of habit and eats and does the same things every day. She is 90 yrs old and still very able and mobile.
Avatar n tn I am on mega-amounts of calcium and, because of thyroid meds and no estrogen, I also have to take Boniva for my bones. Your mother needs a specialist - preferably an endocrinologist who deals with thyroid/parathyroid issues.
Avatar m tn But her bone density tests (I think) are fine. One physican gave her Synthroid, another told her to stop. One perscribed Boniva, another said no, cause she is a young lady. Here are her labs. Any comments? Avatar f tn So you still have the bottle of plaquenil and are not ready to start taking it? Besides what I have already written to you, the only advice I can give is to consider all the ways this disease impacts your life and weigh that against the possible side effects. Also consider the prognosis of the condition. In the end, no one can say who will be among the small percentage of people who experience side effects.
