Boniva and brittle bones

Common Questions and Answers about Boniva and brittle bones

boniva

Avatar f tn Bisphosphonates like Boniva have been associated rarely with uveitis. You would experience ocular pain, blurred vision, light sensitivity, loss of vision and possibly glaucoma if you had uveitis. Your ophthalmologist would be able to tell you right away if you had any uveitis and the Boniva could be discontinued if that were the case.
Avatar n tn HOW CAN I SUE DEPO PROVERA WHICH I WAS ON FOR 8 YEARS AND BY AGE 25 I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE OSTEOPOROSIS AND I AM 29 NOW AND CONTINUE TO BREAK BONES IN JUST SIMPLE ACTIVITIES. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND CANT FIND ANY ONE TO TAKE THE CASE?
Avatar f tn I was taking the hormones to help my bones, as I have osteopenia and rheumatoid arthritis. I am on prescription drugs to help the bones (Boniva and calcium and vit. d). I'm worried about breast cancer with continuing the hormones. I had a partial mastectomy on my right breast which was benign. I had a cluster of microcalcifications which looked supicious, but turned out to be benign (big sigh)! Okay now my question.
Avatar n tn Osteoporosis- is a degeneration of bone. It can lead to brittle bones and breaks of major bones. Osteoarthritis- is a degeneration of the joint. typically caused by wear and tear.
Avatar m tn Too much calcium will leach magnesium out of the body (and vice versa) and out of the bones, making them brittle. This is also a result of using forms of calcium that are not good ones, such as hydroxyapatite. This is also a problem with drugs for bone strength, such as Boniva (which is why in your dentist's office as you sit there you're usually looking at a sign asking you to tell them if you're taking one of these drugs so they don't break something). Complicated, eh?
Avatar f tn Hi, I posted on Community, but really meant to ask my question here. I recently had a mammogram which showed findings of a cyst. I needed additional views, so I returned three days later for a second mammogram of the left breast only, and it showed a nodule. I had an ultrasound the same day which showed an 8 mm benign cyst and several other subcentimeter benign cysts, some with low internal echoes (what are internal echoes?
Avatar f tn The technician looked at my med list and asked if I am taking Boniva and Synthroid. I answered yes. I take other meds other than those two she mentioned. I told her that I understood why she asked about the Boniva but I didn't understand why she asked about Synthroid. She told me that thyroid meds take from the bones and causes osteoporosis. WHAT??? How come no doctor ever told me?
Avatar m tn Hi. So, are you talking about 'bent' bones and not fractures? A complete fracture is when a bone breaks all the way through and the other is when it doesn't so the bones 'bend' or look bent. How old are you, if you don't mind me asking and how long has this been an issue that you've noticed? There is a rare disease called 'bent bone dysplasia syndrome' But am guessing you don't have this as it has a host of features and is very serious.
Avatar n tn I have had very little problems with Prolia. I've done 4 injections over the past 2 years. Just a little bit of bone pain for the first 2 wks after the injection then, it goes away. That said, unfortunately, for me, my DEXA did not improve and my osteoporosis in my spine (the T-score) did not get better. Now, my doctor is sending me to a 'bone' clinic that apparently specializes in bone disorders such as osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn I monitor this site for info on my eye condition. I do not know if the papilloma specifically is related, but Boniva and drugs like it can cause swelling around the eyes as you describe. Just read any website discussing adverse effects of Boniva. I think it worth discussing with your doctor. You should be very aware and cautious of any facial swelling while on Boniva.
Avatar f tn I have taken fosamax and actonel and have had stomach problems and aching bones. My doctor is thinking about the yearly injection of reclast. How safe is it and will I have more problems with my bones aching - I can't sleep at night a lot from the pain. This discussion is related to Atrial Fibulation / Multi-Infarct Dimentia.
Avatar n tn I heard that with extended use bones will become more brittle with increased % of fractures occurring. Is this correct? If so, At what point (after how many years) is this a problem?
Avatar f tn It is now diminishing in size and I am hopeful it will vanish but I hesitate to continue on Boniva.
Avatar n tn for the treatment of Osteoporosis and all have some value. One with a similar name (Boniva) is used quite often and is said to have good results. Since we deal strictly with Breast Cancer issues on this Community you might look at the top of the page under "Health Information" where you will find a subtitle "Osteoporosis" and post there or read other posts and comments. Avatar n tn Thyroid - not really unless it is killing off your parathyroid glands. Parathyroids are four little bean like glands buried in or near your thyroid They control the calcium uptake. Does your calcium supplement include vitamin D? Vitamin D is necessary for your body to absorb the calcium. Also, how old are you? My bones won't absorb enough calcium because I have no estrogen, had two parathyroids removed, and am on very high doses of thyroid replacement.
Avatar f tn I am thinking of starting progesterone - it helps the bones, stops the hot flashes and night sweats, and supposedly helps prevent breast cancer. What was your dexa score?
212161 tn?1599427282 does anyone take Boniva and how bad were the side effects
Avatar f tn I see you have MD in your tagline, are you a physician? I understand that calcium is leaching from my bones, and I have been on replacement therapy for that. In fact, I just completed the IV Reclast last month. I need to know what else can be done, or do I just have to live with this. By the way, in researching PTH, arrythmia's were a symptom of hyperPTHism.
Avatar f tn Keep in mind that bone will form a callus, new bone around a fracture despitew displacement and if you wait too long the surgeon will literally have to re break the bone/bones.
11119474 tn?1428702170 The only draw back is some people over time can get cataracs or brittle bones and other side effects. With anything it is risk/benefit. But your doctor should monitor you. Many people with other diseases such as Lupus and brain tumors are on more steroids. Steroids work on inflammation they do not slow the progression of MS.
1277602 tn?1271113477 For the past 20 years, I have not taken any milk or milk products (cheese, yogurt, butter) etc. Now I feel my bones are brittle, I get cramps and hear my bones make sounds when I sit for a long time or walk fast. My joints ache a lot. I have started to take 300 ml milk everyday now. Is there anything else I can do to enhance my calcium intake please help.
Avatar f tn It is good you have been checked by a doctor. I do not know what hypothyroidism is, but is sure sounds like something to do with the thyroid.. yet: "they say my thyroid was good." I assume "they" are/is a doctor. Watch out for weight gain if you eat much chocolate, it sure sticks to my bones, I have to avoid it, then I have a problem with a too high HR anyway. Shortness of breath could be related to a lack of blood oxygen due to the low HR...
