Boniva and jaw necrosis

Common Questions and Answers about Boniva and jaw necrosis

boniva

Avatar m tn If she has ever taken Boniva, she should worry. Google Osteonecrosis of the jaw, many drugs like Fosomax have bad side effects. A friend lost several teeth and parts of her jaw due to this. She eventually had to have cadaver bone to replace the bone she lost, then implants. She should take other types of calcium supplements.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis and have noticed that recently I have a lot of pain in my teeth and jaw. This has prompted me to wonder if osteoporosis affects the teeth in general as they are inbedded in bone? And how so?
1026267 tn?1257591273 Boniva is perscribed both ways and I have neglected to ask the doctor why she perscribed the daily one. When I asked pharacist about the price (last year) it was $200/mo regardless of whether it was taken daily or monthly. Now that I have a different perscription plan, Endo thinks I should check the price again. It isn't just the price that is making me anxious, it is the fact that I wonder if it is a sure preventative.
Avatar f tn I monitor this site for info on my eye condition. I do not know if the papilloma specifically is related, but Boniva and drugs like it can cause swelling around the eyes as you describe. Just read any website discussing adverse effects of Boniva. I think it worth discussing with your doctor. You should be very aware and cautious of any facial swelling while on Boniva.
Avatar f tn I heard yesterday that Boniva would cause eye disorders called uveitis and sleraderma? Does this bone medicine cause eye problems? I have an eye disorder called Fuchs cornea dystrophy and have recently had cataract surgery in both eyes ;however one eye keeps feeling irritated.
Avatar f tn It is now diminishing in size and I am hopeful it will vanish but I hesitate to continue on Boniva.
Avatar f tn There can be a massive heart attack (MI) and the muscle cells necrosis (death) can be global and one does not survive. Or there can be a heart attack and the heart muscle can survive with timely supply of oxygen...the saying goes, "time is muscle". Or there can be a small isolated area/areas of necrosis and location can be significant or not. The pain varies (chest, jaw, arm shoulders {sharp or dull}) and sometimes there is no pain.
Avatar m tn ve discovered the ADA and most dentists say the jawbone and teeth cannot affect the rest of the body and that jawbone necrosis (dead bone) is inert, localized and does not spread if it is present. I've also e-mailed with people who discovered this was not true, had jawbone necrosis removed and their health returned. This is either controversial or unknown among 99% of dentists (it appears). I am still having necrosis removed but mine has spread so much that it may be too late.
Avatar f tn I have horrible teeth I know. u name the dental problem I probably have it. what has been bugging me for weeks is my left jaw. it's swollen it hurts if u run your hands along both my cheeks there is a very noticable bump and the left side and u can feel the swelling inside too. My best guess is bad infection from really bad abscess but I'm not a dentist. I have insurance but only medicaid. I'm kinda poor. Where do i begin to fix my teeth ?
212161 tn?1599427282 does anyone take Boniva and how bad were the side effects
Avatar n tn If one has been diagnosed with having necrosis and/or dead jawbone, what happens with the bone? Does the "deadness" keep spreading? Also if the bone is dead, why does it hurt so much to apply pressure to the "dead" area? What happens if you do not get a bone graft to replace the area of loss, will that be enough to simply scrape the rest of the dead bone out?
Avatar n tn in order to treat osteo you need to be on fosmax/ boniva or like substances and have hrt. your doctor you should sue.... because he perscribed it while having the knowledge of your bone health knowing it decreases the amount of calcium in your bones.
Avatar f tn I was taking the hormones to help my bones, as I have osteopenia and rheumatoid arthritis. I am on prescription drugs to help the bones (Boniva and calcium and vit. d). I'm worried about breast cancer with continuing the hormones. I had a partial mastectomy on my right breast which was benign. I had a cluster of microcalcifications which looked supicious, but turned out to be benign (big sigh)! Okay now my question.
Avatar n tn I need a bone biopsy to confirm. I had a dislocated jaw for 5 years and then it was relocated. I am only 24 and have to take ativan to control the pain and nerve pain that also goes along with it sometimes. Lack of blood flow causes necrosis of the bone and the only way to cure it would be to remove the area with bone curettage which I am not sure is done at this time.
Avatar f tn Hi and I can so relate to your doubts on the mentioned medicines, I have given up on taking any of them and least of all any bisphosphonates the side effects are simply terrible specially Boniva, there is a site about these meds and all the posters are those women who have taken them, you can look it up under "Boniva side effects" or http://www.askapatient.com/viewrating.asp?drug=21455&name=BONIVA, this is a forum where patients detail the side effects they had.
Avatar f tn The technician looked at my med list and asked if I am taking Boniva and Synthroid. I answered yes. I take other meds other than those two she mentioned. I told her that I understood why she asked about the Boniva but I didn't understand why she asked about Synthroid. She told me that thyroid meds take from the bones and causes osteoporosis. WHAT??? How come no doctor ever told me?

Avatar m tn Scar tissue would indicate necrosis of heart cells and this ooccurs when heart tissues do not receive an adequate supply of oxygenated blood...usually due ischemia (vessel blockage). Your husband could have had a silent heart attack years ago and not aware. It is possible to have had a clot that impeded blood flow enough to cause damage, and then the clot dissolved. Or there could have been spasm of the coronary artery long enough to block blood flow and cause cell necrosis.
Avatar f tn I was told that it would worsen after the chemo (carbo/taxoterre), and it did. Not terribly, but a decrease in bone mass just that same. I started on Boniva and my cholesterol shot up about 120 points. I just stopped that recently and my numbers dropped by 80 points. Seems there are downsides for everything. Now taking Viactiv with vitamins D & K, 3 chews a day. Will have another bone density next April. I also am fairly physically active and hope that will help.
Avatar f tn extremely swollen right leg especially around knee joint - could not even bend knee, terrible hip pain and two days later a tooth abscess. What are the chances I can tolerate Boniva once a month? My Endocrinologist wants me to try it.
Avatar n tn I have had very little problems with Prolia. I've done 4 injections over the past 2 years. Just a little bit of bone pain for the first 2 wks after the injection then, it goes away. That said, unfortunately, for me, my DEXA did not improve and my osteoporosis in my spine (the T-score) did not get better. Now, my doctor is sending me to a 'bone' clinic that apparently specializes in bone disorders such as osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn I asked a Radiologist what it looked like on the ultrasound when she was draining my seroma and she said that I had fat necrosis and that I should not worry about it. When I mentioned it to my surgeon he seemed not concerned about it. My questions are: 1. Fat necrosis symptoms will go away on their own or something should be done. I have a feeling that I need a second opinion regarding this. 2.
Avatar f tn RESOLVED THIS... The black was old blood and from being burned. WHEW! Necrosis is never fun...
Avatar n tn She has not changed her diet or any meds. She is a creature of habit and eats and does the same things every day. She is 90 yrs old and still very able and mobile. She is on Lopressor 25mg, Mucinex 600mg, Aspirin 162mg, Aldactone 25mg, Lasix 20mg, OTC multivitamin, OTC calcium 500mg, and OTC iron. Her BP runs consistently in the 130's/70's with her pulse in the mid 60's.
Avatar m tn The doctor biopsied a nodule about 3.5cm across and the result was benign - at this point I should mention that no other nodules were tested as all the doc found in the first test was 100pc thyroid material. My T3/T4 are totally normal and my TSH is 0.33 wheras a normal reading is 0.30. Recently I have been feeling like I am getting a bad cold or allergies leaving me feeling very lethargic. The thing is it doesnt turn into anything, it just makes me feel ikky!
Avatar m tn So I was admitted into the hospital immediately and they did a core decompression because both men and women get this mainly in their hips and jaw from taking prednisone, alcohol abuse or severe trauma (sometimes athletes will get it), however it does NOT spread and the worst thing is a replacement.
