Avatar f tn Good question! Made me go surfing the net as I have never paid attention to OTC A1c kits. First stop was the NGSP [National Glycohemoglobin Standardization Program]. These are the folks who write the standards for A1c testing; hospitals & independent labs & mfg'ers of home kits and lab equipment. I noticed the Bayer Metrika A1cNOW met their stringent standards. For a list of labs and kits and what HbA they can test go here. On the left click on HbA1c Test Methods... http://www.ngsp.
Avatar f tn Please do not attempt to treat your symptoms at home. Since you have no diagnosis, whatever you try could make the situation worse, or create an emergency event. You need to see a doctor ASAP for testing. It is possible you just have a blood sugar issue, or are dehydrated, but it is also possible that you are diabetic. Your symptoms warrant a visit to urgent care, if you can't get in to see your regular doctor quickly.
Avatar n tn Improper testing techniques comes to mind - not cleaning test area, uncalibrated test equipment, etc. To be certain of your blood sugar levels get an A1c [HbA1c, HgbA1c] test. An A1c test will inform you of your blood sugars levels for the past 2-3 months, the lifespan of new red blood cells. Excess blood sugars attach to new RBC's never getting absorbed for use as energy. The A1c captures this. It is the standard most doctors use to verify diabetes or not.
Avatar n tn Sooo apparently I failed my 3 hour fasting test for gestational diabetes. However I have been checking my blood sugar for the past couple days twice a day and my sugar has not been high at all. Pretty good actually. I eat the right things and exercise and I hardly touch things that's really high in sugar. I wonder if this is just a glitch ? They want me to take this class and buy this glucometer and test strips thats over 100 dollars but I honestly dnt think I need them.
Avatar m tn I am 43yrs old man. Today I have done my blood sugar test by a testing machine after 3 hrs of eating. The result is 112 ml/dl . Is this result is normal ? Is this time 3 hrs wrong ? I am waiting for your valuable reply.
Avatar m tn HI 48 year old male, 5 feet 8 inches. 164 lbs. Recently had blood test , Blood sugar came back 128m/dl. Doctor has not recommended any medicines . He suggested to exercise and control the diet. Day before the test had a pasta lunch with cola and small pasta fried fish dinner with 2 drinks(alcoholic). dinner complete at 9.00pm. Also had a antidepressant for sleep. Went the next morning for test around 8.am. Is it possible for my test to be wrong given the previous days gluttony.
Avatar f tn At 72, I've never had any doctor address anything regarding an elevated blood sugar level from bloodwork done every 6 months! Had bloodwork done 2 weeks ago, my blood sugar level is 133...how do I deal with this? What has caused this? Doctor is concerned, not frantic about this today, but I am alarmed.
Avatar m tn I was testing blood sugar with my grandmother. She used the tissue I used to cover my finger to cover hers. There was blood on it and the stains are not dry. It was just one or two minutes after I used the tissue. I was tested negative 5 weeks ago after my protected sex 9 weeks ago on PEP started within 22 hours post sex. The local doctor said that the result should be 99% accurate with antibody+p24. Should I be concerned about my grandmother's health? Appreciated!!
Avatar f tn For anyone that finds this in their searches, it turns out that I actually have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Autonomic testing showed a drop in blood pressure after eating which cause these symptoms!
Avatar f tn Anything with carbs is going to spike your blood sugar. If your trying to stabilize blood sugar, I would recommend eating lots of protein and vegetables. As for carbs, choose the healthy carbs or brown rice and more slow digesting carbs. That way your blood sugar won't rise as high or fast. I'm type 1 diabetic and pregnant, so u have been testing blood sugar like crazy for a good amount of my life.
Avatar f tn i am not diabetic but for some reason, for the.oast couple weeks i have been monitoring my blood sugar and its all over the place. the highest ive noticed was 281 after a big dinner and 2 minutes later it drops down to 113. any other ones are like, 232, 158 but i dont feel anything weird in my body at all. but my blood sugar when i woke up yesterday morning was 97 that was before breakfast. pls if u know anything about this, give an advice on wut to do.
304573 tn?1345577338 How are you arriving at this conclusion? Are you home testing your blood glucose, or is this random or fasting lab testing results? How long have you been tracking this?
Avatar n tn They usually do a two blood test test for the diagnosis. This is a fasting blood sugar test from a predetermined time in the evening the night before the test, then they give you a drink with as many calories in it as in the average meal then check the blood sugar two hours later to see if the body is doing it's job. My test was 30 years ago and i still remember it: fasting 480 and two hour 660, which left the doctors no doubt. i didn't know then either what was good or bad.
Avatar m tn The hemoglobin A1C test reveals your average blood sugar over the last three months. That number is much more helpful than fasting blood sugar because it reflects a longer stretch of time.
Avatar n tn Drugs and insulin do not mix you can get abnormal blood glucose readings. I know after type 1 for 30 years. Seizures are actually a good response to low blood sugar in sleep state they can save your life. Another thing don't ever trust the emt blood sugar testing equipment it is the worst I've ever seen in most cases. Watch her close and check her blood glucose mid sleep around 1:30 2:00 this is when most problems occur. Just to get a grip on what is goin on.
Avatar n tn s why sex or the overt exchange of blood -- as with contaminated injection equipment, or from mother to baby in the uterus -- are the main ways HIV is transmitted. Supercial contact of the sort you are worried about has never been known to result in HIV transmission. Nobody in the world has ever been known to catch HIV from exposure to blood in the environment. In addition, HIV remains pretty rare in China -- a very tiny proportion of your country's population carries the virus.
Avatar n tn I tested my blood sugar this morning and it was 105. Would you say this is out of the normal range. I had blood work done about a month ago when I had my annual physical and my sugar level came back at 109. My doctor didn't seem to alarmed.
Avatar n tn How can your blood sugar be 255 at bedtime and fall to 40 at 5:30 am?
640347 tn?1228533326 I am supposed to take my insulin shots 3 to 4 times a day depending on my blood sugar. Please, monitor your blood sugar and take care of yourself so your prediabetes does not get any worse. When yor blood sugar was 150 had you had anything to eat because anything you eat can effect your sugar.
325405 tn?1262290178 Haven't yet been in to see an endocrinologist or a dietary person to talk blood sugar levels and diet. Am having problems dealing with my insurance company who won't even cover my stupid testing strips. They basically are $1 a strip. Expensive. I had gestational diabetes several years ago (gestational diabetes was covered 100% for supplies and visits), so I am aware of how to do all the blood testing and have been doign fine about that.
Avatar f tn However, there are some limitations to use the QCT as a routine screening tool for osteoporosis because the price of the QCT equipment is very high and the radiation dose of a QCT scan is generally several hundred times larger than that of a plain x-ray imaging. The most widely used method for measuring bone mineral density and for follow-up study of osteporosis patients is a dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA).
709686 tn?1277432159 They usually come with 10 test strips and 10 lancets and instructions, which should be plenty to check your blood sugar throughout a couple of days. Extra test strips can be pricy. If you go this route, most recommend checking your blood sugar first thing in the morning (fasting) and 2 hours after meals.
