Avatar f tn At 72, I've never had any doctor address anything regarding an elevated blood sugar level from bloodwork done every 6 months! Had bloodwork done 2 weeks ago, my blood sugar level is 133...how do I deal with this? What has caused this? Doctor is concerned, not frantic about this today, but I am alarmed.

Avatar f tn My dad who is a diabetic said he was a little worried and to have him come over and he will check his blood sugar. It was 249 about 2.5 hours after eating. He gave us a glucose monitor and he have been checking it regularly. Some times it gets about 110 and then other times it will spike. The highest its been so far is 269. I have no idea what this means. Im so new to all of this. Is this normal? I called the pedi and they told me to keep a log and call them in a few days.
Avatar f tn Anything with carbs is going to spike your blood sugar. If your trying to stabilize blood sugar, I would recommend eating lots of protein and vegetables. As for carbs, choose the healthy carbs or brown rice and more slow digesting carbs. That way your blood sugar won't rise as high or fast. I'm type 1 diabetic and pregnant, so u have been testing blood sugar like crazy for a good amount of my life.
Avatar n tn Hi, yes eating before testing would increase the glucose levels in the body. Only carbohydrates (including grain products, fruits, juice, milk, yogurts, potatoes, corns--starchy foods) will raise the blood sugar level in the body. However, if you didn't fast (have not eaten for 8 hours or more), you must had a random glucose test done. they do have guidelines to tell what number is high. if your glucose level came up to be a bit above normal then you might be considered prediabetic.

304573 tn?1345577338 How are you arriving at this conclusion? Are you home testing your blood glucose, or is this random or fasting lab testing results? How long have you been tracking this?
Avatar n tn I tested my blood sugar this morning and it was 105. Would you say this is out of the normal range. I had blood work done about a month ago when I had my annual physical and my sugar level came back at 109. My doctor didn't seem to alarmed.
Avatar m tn It is important to continue to keep track of your glucose levels and your diet. When you record you diet along side your blood sugar, you will be able to begin to see trends of when your blood sugar is controlled and when it is elevated. This will help you manage your diet to keep your sugars from spiking. It is time consuming, but so important to help you manage your diabetes. Please continue to monitor your blood sugar.
Avatar f tn I have pre- diabetes (fasting blood sugar 107) and would like to start taking fish oil supplements for health reasons. I've read that fish oil supplements can raise your FBS and shouldn't be taken by diabetics. I would appreciate any thoughts, comments or advice.

1431915 tn?1292476740 If you need a sweetener for tea or desserts or something, i would use agave nectar as it has a low glycemic index meaning it will prevent your blood sugar from drastic changes. If you are going to have something sweet or like crackers, bread, or white rice (processed foods), it is better to have it with some protien like nuts or seeds or cheese cubes or fish or meat, which will help balance and keep your blood sugar readings from going so high.
325405 tn?1262290178 Haven't yet been in to see an endocrinologist or a dietary person to talk blood sugar levels and diet. Am having problems dealing with my insurance company who won't even cover my stupid testing strips. They basically are $1 a strip. Expensive. I had gestational diabetes several years ago (gestational diabetes was covered 100% for supplies and visits), so I am aware of how to do all the blood testing and have been doign fine about that.
Avatar m tn The last thing she can do is the monitor her blood sugars, so she has an idea of how high her blood sugars are. Also the blood tests only provides an idea/average. her testing results would give a picture of how her sugars are like at a specific time. Blood sugar before meal should be 4-7mmol/L; 2 hours after meal should be 5-10mmol/L. What you can do is to support her and be her exercise buddy/coach. So you can make sure she is doing everything she can and also motivates her.
Avatar m tn m assuming fasting blood sugar] indicates prediabetes. This can be corrected with proper diabetes nutrition, maintaining proper weight and daily physical exercise. Does "pp" stand for postprandial? Without knowing when, or how the 256 mg/dl test results came about your wife should ask the next doctor, preferably an Endocrinologist - a diabetes specialist - for 1.
