Avatar f tn I have had T1D for 9 months now. The last week or so my blood sugar had been between 240-340 mg/dl and I can't get it to come down. What should I do?
Avatar m tn Would checking your blood sugar level 3 hours after a meal be considered "BEFORE" OR "AFTER" a Meal.
1948564 tn?1324647050 If only we could all live that dream. I would suggest using a log book, you can get one from your doc or free from some meter companies. Write down your blood sugar before your meals, carbs you ate, if that is how you give yourself insulin, and your dosage. A carb is not a carb, and they are not all going to affect you the same. Also maybe the activity you had the day before, etc. If my son plays basketball the night before it affects him all the way in to the next day.
Avatar f tn I had to change the way I ate to keep my blood sugar more even.. avoid foods that spike your blood sugar such as grains and sugars.. A piece of whole wheat bread will raise your blood sugar more than eating a chocolate bar...I changed to a paleo way of eating and it has done a world of good for me. More energy, perfect blood sugar, blood pressure and lost weight..
Avatar f tn Yes, alcohol affects blood sugar level - Each and Every time it's consumed. that being said, High blood sugar and high blood alcohol content would be 2 separate elements measured in Your blood. 80% of the alcohol from EVERY drink goes directly to the blood stream and, THAT is why You have high blood alcohol content. Four drinks would put everyones' blood alcohol above the legal limit Alcohol is harmful to the body - as is diabetes.
Avatar n tn s only necessary if I were on insulin. However, I will occasionally check my blood sugar -- maybe once or twice a month or if I'm not feeling well. I checked it on Sunday and found it was running somewhat high. Just for the heck of it, I checked it when I went to bed and it was 336 around 10 p.m. I happened to wake up at 3 a.m. to use the restroom and thought I would check it again since it was kind of high when I went to bed.
577285 tn?1706032371 Blood Sugar Tracker for us diabetic's out there please. It would be an invaluable tool for us to track this VITAL READING. Not only could it be based on those little log books that we all gotta carry around getting all dog eared and full of blood stains as well as getting more expensive to buy , but we could easily make a copy and bring the professional looking and easy to read Chart / Tracker to our Doctors.

2094297 tn?1345389093 increase protein, good fats and veggies, decrease bad fats and sugar/starch. This will keep you satiated, reduce your blood sugar, reduce your inflammation markers. Here some meal ideas: unsweetened low fat yoghurt with LSA or nuts and apples for breakfast, some eggs. A handful of nuts for a snack. Lunch: huge salad with mixed veggies and greens with thuna or a grilled steak. Celery with almond butter or carrots stick with hummus as a snack.
Avatar m tn Diabetes Solutions". You can log onto amazon .com to read reviews of this book. The rule is very SIMPLE: to stablize the blood sugar, I always try to LOWER my carb intake.Period, the other way around, to me, is dead wrong. The other half of my diabetic journey is that I am using a herb that I have discovered and developed so effective enough for me to steadily lower my blood glucose A1C to 5.6% , taken 12.28.11.
1280354 tn?1272581901 Today is day "74" free from Oxy for me! I was using 120 mg of oxy a day for 6 yrs and quit cold turkey. It was the single hardest thing I have ever done. I would log on to this sight several times a week for the first month hoping someone would give me a solid answer to the question "how long does this last" well I never found one because there isnt one.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know where I can purchase a baby book for a girl???? The one where it has all her first moments and information leading up to her birth.
Avatar m tn Keep daily checks of the readings, keep a log book.
Avatar n tn I am not an expert either, but from general knowledge as a nurse I would expect you to follow your diet plan as given, eating perhaps 4-5 small meals a day (if that is what your doctor has instructed you) and keeping near the 20 gm net carb limit, no matter what your blood sugar is. Just keep a log of what you eat and when, and a log of when and what your blood sugar is. That may help the doc figure out what YOUR body needs.
1448460 tn?1284694467 Prednisone does tend to raise your blood sugar and you should do what you can to keep it down as much as possible. You did not mention if you are on insulin or pills or just diet control. Considering you are only taking prednisone for a very short time, you shouldn't have too much to worry about. If your blood sugar is at that level for a longer period of time that may bring about some damage. Exercise more, if possible, definitely drink lots more water and really watch your diet.
325405 tn?1262290178 Haven't yet been in to see an endocrinologist or a dietary person to talk blood sugar levels and diet. Am having problems dealing with my insurance company who won't even cover my stupid testing strips. They basically are $1 a strip. Expensive. I had gestational diabetes several years ago (gestational diabetes was covered 100% for supplies and visits), so I am aware of how to do all the blood testing and have been doign fine about that.
Avatar m tn Start a written log of what you eat/drink and portion size, next to it your blood sugar levels. Test before you eat [preprandial] for a baseline measurement and then 2-3 hours after you finish your meal [postprandial]. You do have a home glucose test meter, right? By comparing preprandial with postprandial, postprandial will inform you which foods elevate your levels and which ones do not. You need to make a concentrated lifestyle change starting with foods.
Avatar m tn My dad told me that blood sugars would be higher due to this. He uses the sleep apnea machine and before he used it he told me his blood sugar was higher and after its been lower. I have not got any tests done for sleep apnea but I snore loudly and have been since age 23 and now I am 28 (male). Since I am pre-diabetic would getting treated for sleep apnea lower blood sugar?
Avatar n tn It is an on-going battle between the two of us to get him to write down his sugar level and insulin when he checks. He is on a regimen of Lantus and Humalog and basically uses his own discretion when counting carbs and giving insulin. Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can better track his numbers, besides me following him around with a log book? He uses the Accu-Check Instant meter.
Avatar f tn They sent me home with a book of meal plans (great selections) a meter and strips and a log chart. I had to check my blood before eating in the morning, and then every 4 hours after that. I had to record all of my logs down. Hope things get better! Good luck hun!
Avatar f tn It really depends if u need insulin or pills, if you cant control your blood sugar then you take pills if your blood sugar is not high. But if normally your fasting numbers are high then thats why they put you on insulin. I have a coworker that went straight to insulin and shes a diabetic now but her numbers were crazy high like in the 500 when she did the glucose test. The doc just prob know that pills wont help you.

Avatar f tn I have to take a 3 hour blood sugar test I'm nervous and scared :/ for whoever done it before how was it ?
Avatar f tn That would be what would tell you how concerned you should be with your blood sugar number. What the doctor is watching whether you need some form of insulin to keep your sugar to a acceptable level.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately its not fat that raises BG but carbohydrates that raise BG (blood sugar). All carbs raise BG, reduce carbs have lower BG.
