The rule is very SIMPLE: to stablize the blood sugar, I always try to LOWER my carb intake.Period, the other way around, to me, is dead wrong. The other half of my diabetic journey is that I am using a herb that I have discovered and developed so effective enough for me to steadily lower my blood glucose A1C to 5.6% , taken 12.28.11.

Avatar f tn I had gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy. They sent me home with a book of meal plans (great selections) a meter and strips and a log chart. I had to check my blood before eating in the morning, and then every 4 hours after that. I had to record all of my logs down. Hope things get better! Good luck hun!
1948564 tn?1324647050 My son is 13 and been diagnosed since he was 4. Every day, every hour is different for his blood sugar. I am a little disappointed your doctor has indicated everything should be regular by now. If only we could all live that dream. I would suggest using a log book, you can get one from your doc or free from some meter companies. Write down your blood sugar before your meals, carbs you ate, if that is how you give yourself insulin, and your dosage.
2216055 tn?1349382305 I having been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes, just got my meter and log book today. When I first got it, I thought it was gonna be like the end if my world, but I realize that it's only the beginning. Testing my blood sugar is going to allow me to be more conscious of what I eat and how much of what I eat. I may even shed a few lbs in the process. I am so excited. It's unfortunate that this is what it took for me to open my eyes but thru this circumstance I can see the light :).

1448460 tn?1284694467 Prednisone does tend to raise your blood sugar and you should do what you can to keep it down as much as possible. You did not mention if you are on insulin or pills or just diet control. Considering you are only taking prednisone for a very short time, you shouldn't have too much to worry about. If your blood sugar is at that level for a longer period of time that may bring about some damage. Exercise more, if possible, definitely drink lots more water and really watch your diet.
Avatar f tn Bernstein Diabetes University (on U-tube). He also has a book called Diabetes Solution. Bernstein is the father of modern diabetes management and a very strong proponent of low carb to manage diabetes.
Avatar m tn Carbohydrates (carbs) raise BG exercise lowers BG (strenuous exercise can raise BG) insulin lowers BG use your meter to test those are your tools, keep a log book and you will see a pattern.
Avatar f tn I have had T1D for 9 months now. The last week or so my blood sugar had been between 240-340 mg/dl and I can't get it to come down. What should I do?
Avatar f tn Yes, alcohol affects blood sugar level - Each and Every time it's consumed. that being said, High blood sugar and high blood alcohol content would be 2 separate elements measured in Your blood. 80% of the alcohol from EVERY drink goes directly to the blood stream and, THAT is why You have high blood alcohol content. Four drinks would put everyones' blood alcohol above the legal limit Alcohol is harmful to the body - as is diabetes.
Avatar n tn s only necessary if I were on insulin. However, I will occasionally check my blood sugar -- maybe once or twice a month or if I'm not feeling well. I checked it on Sunday and found it was running somewhat high. Just for the heck of it, I checked it when I went to bed and it was 336 around 10 p.m. I happened to wake up at 3 a.m. to use the restroom and thought I would check it again since it was kind of high when I went to bed.
Avatar n tn An insulin pump is something you need to ask your endocronologist for help with. Blood sugar log books can be sent to you from the company that you have your meter through; just call them. Your local Diabetes Charity could probably point you in the right direction too. I'm assuming you already have a pump, but they are all different & you need to be taught how to use it properly.
Avatar f tn Am a diet controlled diabetic. Blood sugar is over 200 each morning. Should I be back on meds?
Avatar n tn your diabetes. You say you rarely check your blood sugar, which makes it hard to see gradual but persistent rise in blood sugar. Congratulations on controlling your diabetes with diet and exercise for four years, that's great! But Joyce is correct, it may be time for you to go to the next stage and start oral meds. Instead of spending time looking for obscure side effects I would take my log book of regular numbers to my doctor and ask if he sees a pattern and what he suggests you do.
Avatar f tn ask the doctor for a referral to an Endocrinologist (diabetes specialist). I also suggest you start monitoring and keeping a log of foods you consume. Log what you eat, how much you eat and how you feel directly after, 1 hour, 2 and 3 hours later. Do this for every meal, including snacks. Present this log to the endo.
Avatar m tn I am having diabetes with hypertension (blood sugar fasting level - 132) My weight is 95 kg. I am taking metforming i gm since 1 year doing a regular exercise of 50 min.controlled my food intake. Still weight not reducing .My height is 175 cm.is there anything wrong with me?
Avatar f tn My dad who is a diabetic said he was a little worried and to have him come over and he will check his blood sugar. It was 249 about 2.5 hours after eating. He gave us a glucose monitor and he have been checking it regularly. Some times it gets about 110 and then other times it will spike. The highest its been so far is 269. I have no idea what this means. Im so new to all of this. Is this normal? I called the pedi and they told me to keep a log and call them in a few days.
Avatar f tn I would recommend that you resume checking your blood glucose. Keep a log of your blood sugar and your diet. If you notice your sugar spiking and your symptoms returning with certain foods then you have your answer. If you resume controlling your diet and feel better, then you also have an answer. Gestational diabetes does usually resolve after the birth of the baby, however, this is not usually immediate. The symptoms can persist for a period of time. Good luck.
Avatar n tn If you do fail then you will be put on a low carb diet which isnt bad i had it with my second you will test your blood 4 times a day and log it for your doctor. As long as you keep it diet controlled then you wont have to inject or take anything. If you dont keep it controlled by diet your baby could grow larger and when born its possible to have their sigar drop too low after umbilical cord is cut and theyd be put on a sugar drip.
325405 tn?1262290178 I also know that gestational diabetes is more strict with blood sugar levels than regular type II diabetes. Now that I have type II, what are the ranges to aim for for blood sugar levels for fasting and then for 2 hours after a meal? Right now, I'm testing about 100 to 110 in the morning and about 110 to 130 after meals. If I forget to take my metformin at night, my fasting level is usually around 120 to 130. But, with the medicine it is 100 to 110 fasting. Is this good?
Avatar m tn I had to get back to you after considering the seriousness of your diabetes. when you read the book you will learn that your blood sugar will go up so many mg/dl for each gram of carbohydrate you eat. In my case unless I compensate for them my b/g will go up about 5 per carb. So if I eat 10 grams of carbs my b/g would go up 50 mg/dl. 10 grams is not all that much. Without much effort I could eat 50 grams of carbs. In that case my b/g would go up 250!
