1209036 tn?1299178657 During this second test, called the 100-gram oral glucose tolerance test, your blood glucose level will be tested four times during a three-hour period after drinking the cola-like drink. If two out of the four blood tests are abnormal, you are considered to have gestational diabetes.
Avatar f tn re a healthy weight. It is called the one hour glucose tolerance test because your blood is drawn one hour after drinking the glucose drink. If you fail and have to do the three hour the draw your blood first, make you drink the drink, and then draw blood at specific time intervals throughout the next three hours. The purpose of the test is to see how your body responds to and processes a large amount of glucose.
Avatar n tn In the US, the doctor may ordered a clean urine catch to coincide with a fasting blood draw or an OGTT [Oral Glucose Tolerance Test]. If you are concerned about diabetes ask for an A1c test [Hb1c, HbA1c] which is used as the standard tool to determine glucose [blood sugar] control.
Avatar f tn Hello Doctor, I was diagnosed with thyroiditis last year at age 57, but I'm not sure what kind. I started out hyper which my doctor treated with beta blockers to slow my heart rate. Then I went hypo, and I've been on 50 mcg of Synthroid for the past year. My last TSH was 2.98. My question is regarding blood glucose. My last fasting test was 127. I've always tested under 100. I'm fearful of developing diabetes. Is the synthroid causing my blood sugar to rise?
Avatar n tn In the event that you had an arbitrary blood glucose test, an ordinary outcome relies upon when you last ate. More often than not, the blood glucose level will be underneath 125 mg/dL (6.
Avatar n tn First, any prandial test (fasting and after meal) captures glucose only at test time, not yesterday, two days ago, or a three weeks ago. It really doesn't tell a doctor what is going with your glucose levels at all times of the day. Home glucose meters are good to see how well one is managing their glucose levels. Having scaled results (high to low, or normal to near high or above) calls for an A1c test to see the entire picture. An A1c test measures your glucose going back three months.
Avatar f tn I failed my first glucose test as well and I had eaten two tacos from taco bell like 30 minutes before the test so I think that's why mine came back high the first time. I passed my 3 hour glucose test do I'm glad for that.
Avatar n tn I looked on the American Diabetes website and there is an OGTT test- is that the test--meaning oral glucose tolerance test. This is what they say about those results. OGTT test, a person's blood glucose level is measured after a fast and two hours after drinking a glucose-rich beverage. If the two-hour blood glucose level is between 140 and 199 mg/dl, the person tested has pre-diabetes. If the two-hour blood glucose level is at 200 mg/dl or higher, the person tested has diabetes.
Avatar f tn As with fasting or random blood glucose tests, a markedly abnormal oral glucose tolerance test is diagnostic of diabetes. However, blood glucose measurements during the oral glucose tolerance test can vary somewhat. For this reason, if the test shows that you have mildly elevated blood glucose levels, the doctor may run the test again to make sure the diagnosis is correct.
Avatar f tn Yupp, I just had mine done, yesterday
Avatar n tn I had my glucose test around 28 weeks, so you might not be far enough into your pregnancy. And as the previous poster said, it is to establish if you have gestational diabetes.
12208248 tn?1424755226 Yes it does vary depending on your Dr but according to the National Institute of Health the glucose screening is generally done between the 24-28 weeks unless you have glucose in your urine which the Dr usually tests every time you are in and if you have an abnormal glucose screening or 1 hour test then you go on to the glucose tolerance test or 3 hour test. If anyone ever has questions www.nlm.nih.
Avatar f tn Depending on your numbers from your first one, you might be able to talk to your doctor about going straight to being treated for gestational diabetes without a 3 hour confirmation test. That would involve a very strict no-sugar diet and weekly blood tests through finger prick to monitor your blood sugar levels. If you're asking can you just ignore failing the first test and go on as before, no, that's not a good idea.
Avatar n tn In Jan 2000 I was diagnosed with type two diabetes. My A1C was 9.1 and fasting glucose was 375. I was sedantary, very over weight and had very poor dietary habits. My diabetes doctor told me that there were three factors that I needed to consider in controlling my glucose levels. 1. Intake--food and fluids 2. Exercise 3. Medicines--oral or injected as the situation warrants I have been on oral medications for over 8 years.
Avatar f tn ) I have been ordered to take a first trimester blood glucose test to check for diabetes early. I cannot tell you how awful it is to be here, empty stomach fasting, and have to drink that syrupy stuff when I'm still in the throws of 1st trimester nausea. Trying not to throw up. But already dizzy. If you did a 1st trimester blood glucose screening, how did yours go?
360318 tn?1340393363 i've had gestational diabetes in my previous pregnancy and will be tested twice this time, first test came back normal but i need to be tested further along. The drink wont cause harm as a one off but they do need to check how your body reacts to it, its more dangerous not to give the drink and potentially let someone who HAS it go misdiagnosed following no specific diet or care for GD.
Avatar n tn I am no expert on diabetes, just the child of a type 2 diabetic and niece of three diabetics, but I think the urine test you are referring to is for something called ketones. I think this test tells you if you have uncontrolled diabetes.
Avatar n tn Hello ladies have any of ya skip or went to do the glucose test at 25 weeks I hate it I don't want to do it
975514 tn?1324997938 I recently had a blood test, which included a glucose test. I wasn't fasting. I ate a bowl of whole grain cereal at about 5AM. My test was a 10AM. My uncle has diabetes and my sister is hypoglycemic. I know I get sick if I have a shake from McDonalds, but that's about it. I get really tired and nauseated. I don't drink sugary beverages at all just because I am always watching my weight, but I wonder now how that would effect me?
4182046 tn?1355820039 When I get my blood drawn I never look, I just look up or the other direction. It helps alot to do that because when I got my blood drawn for the glucose test I didn't even feel it, the needle was so thin.
Avatar f tn It to check and see if you have diabetes there is a 1 hour test and also a 3 hour test I have to take a 3 hour test today and with a 3 hour test there making fast for 12 hours
