Avatar f tn The teat is for gestational diabetes. Every women has to do it, usually between 24-28 weeks although sometimes sooner based on personal circumstances (such as per pregnancy weight, family hx of diabetes, etc.). However thin people do get gestational diabetes as well, so don't assume you'll pass just because you're a healthy weight. It is called the one hour glucose tolerance test because your blood is drawn one hour after drinking the glucose drink.
Avatar n tn To determine this there are 2 simple tests a Dr. can do. First is an A1c test. This simple blood test measures blood sugar levels over an extended period of time - approximately 3 months - even though it is only taken once. The second test is a GTT (Glucose Tolerance Test) this test measures how quickly a persons body responds to a given amount of sugar ingested. This tells the Dr. if your body is producing and using its Insulin normally or not.
Avatar n tn In the US, the doctor may ordered a clean urine catch to coincide with a fasting blood draw or an OGTT [Oral Glucose Tolerance Test]. If you are concerned about diabetes ask for an A1c test [Hb1c, HbA1c] which is used as the standard tool to determine glucose [blood sugar] control.
Avatar m tn She said there were traces of glucose and white blood cells in my urine. She has asked me to go in for a blood test and I think a Prostate psa test. I'm worried it could be something serious?
Avatar f tn you need to ask your doctor to test HA1c. THis test gives average glucose levels over a 3 month period and is a very indication of your blood sugar levels and status. Thyroid being off can affect your glucose. However as Zoela said take this as a timely warning about there being a potential problem and use it.
306245 tn?1244384967 The accepted ways of screening for diabetes are a fasting glucose, a random glucose(not as good) or a 2 hour glucose tolerance test. A HgB A1C is sometimes used by doctors but it is not widely accepted as a good screening measure, so I suggest a fasting or an OGTT. You should also have a thyroid screen(TSH) done. Fasting glucose is not perfect, so yes you can have a "false negative" in terms of saying you have no abnormalities in glucose handling.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am a diabetic and usually have blood test to determine my A1C once a year and a fasting glucose test. My wife is not a diabetic and during her annual physical her primary PCP performs a fasting battery of blood tests that include cholesterol AND glucose screening. I would suggest that you tell your PCO that diabetes run in your family and you want to be tested. If your PCP refuses to authorize the test maybe you should think of getting a new PCP.
Avatar n tn This test starts out with a simple blood test to determine your resting glucose levels. Then, you drink a sweet syrupy drink and blood is drawn at different times after this to see what happens to your glucose levels. If you have an episode of reactive hypoglycemia during this test, it will show up. I am a very tightly controlled diabetic, and because I keep my baseline glucose levels low, I often have slight drops in glucose or mild hypoglycemia.
Avatar n tn I suggest that you have blood tests done to determine fasting blood sugar levels. An oral glucose tolerance test may also help establish if one is prediabetic .At this point, I do not want you to worry. As other causes such as stress ,exercises and a recent meal intake may cause increase levels of glucose in the urine. This may be true in isolated cases. An initial work up may be necessary just to check blood glucose levels.
Avatar f tn Use your home meter to test your glucose levels. If you're having memory issues start a log - date/time/dose - so you have something to reference in the future.
607566 tn?1221252380 Thanks for all the input, I just don,t get how she could say I have diabetes from a 126 glucose and I wasn't fasting for the last 2 test. I wasn't sure if the Dr was just a waste of my time diagnosing me on 2 non-fasting results.
4430052 tn?1355003242 is it just change in diet? I took 1 hr glucose test at about 13 weeks because diabetes runs in my family but that one was good. now I have to do it again in a couple weeks n in hope i pass that one too.
Avatar m tn Since we have no mention of a home glucose test meter in your post my question to you is how do you know when your blood glucose is going down? And when? See this link on when to test your blood glucose before, during, and after a workout. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/diabetes-and-exercise/DA00105 As Sally mentioned, it is best to monitor your blood glucose with a home test meter. This is the only way to know, besides being tested at the doctors office, your glucose levels.
Avatar n tn I have been tested by a doctor recently, they did a full blood test this is how I know I dont have diabetes, he is also the one who told me my blood sugar was low.
Avatar m tn 2 hrs after breakfast result gives mid 80’s. If I test my blood sugar 6 hrs after any heavy meal the result would be 85 mg/dl. As you see the only reading that concerns me in the one right after waking up in the morning. Should I be concerned??
1154802 tn?1266485720 Very solid test to determine whether you have diabetes. A fasting test tests your glucose levels at the time of the test, not what is was 3 hours prior, the day or the week before. 2. TSH - Thyroid test to check for hormone disorder that may affect glucose levels. 3.
Avatar n tn There is one blood test that can help determine if there is a possibility of diabetes that works better than a blood sugar/glucose test. There is now a test called A1C that is more accurate. Another test that is done is to have you come in fasting and to stick around for several hours while they run glucose tolerance tests. You will want to bring some kind of portable activity with you, like a book to read or some kind of needlework activity as some suggestions.
