1396756 tn?1283523477 Often binge eating is an emotional thing, we find confort in food. You hear people talk about their "comfort foods" these are things they eat when upset or sad. The Paxil IS helping you and this is why you no longer have to eat to feel better....good for you! One thing to help lose the weight is to eat every 3-4 hours, healthy snacks. Fresh fruit, handful of nuts, yogurt, chicken, vegetables, and exercise. Eating every few hours keeps your metabolism at it's peak.
Avatar f tn Instead, I tell myself that overeating will increase my metabolism and may help with weight loss later. Or I tell myself that all dieters fail on occasion. A binge-session may stave off a dieter's burn out. My goal is to reroute that path in my brain, so I stop punishing myself for overeating. Don't get me wrong. I also take responsibility for these failures. That's why I have to log them in my food diary.

Avatar f tn I would talk to a professional and let them decide whether the behavior is binge eating and/ or part of an eating disorder.
Avatar f tn ve had an eating disorder which also suggests you might binge eat. Some people binge when they feel bad. Some binge when they feel good. Insidious, but true. If there truly hasn't been any change in what you're eating, how much you're eating, how often you're eating, or how much you're expending energy, it might be you're just having an unusual reaction to the med.
614508 tn?1265281722 I'm 46 yrs old, 5 ft 6in & weigh 190 lbs. During my teens and 20's, I was involved heavily in dance (jazz, tap, ballet, musical theatre) and developed anorexia. I did not weigh over 100 until I was 25 years old. During my 30's & 40's I started binging & purging...stopping only during my 2 pregnancies. Now I am in the routine of not eating all day (except for coffee & water) and binge at night (10pm onwards) consuming huge amounts of calories.
Avatar n tn Over my 27 years of treating eating disorders, I have seen many individuals have damaged metabolism. I have also seen metabolism return to normal for most. For some it has taken months for others years. Purge free (vomiting, laxatives, diuretics) with stable eating and exercise has helped. Reflux often is a sign of prolong vomiting. Since I am a psychologist, not a medical doctor, I will not address your questions on cancer and thyroiditis.
Avatar f tn Those with Bulimia are typically ashamed of their eating problems and thus attempt to conceal their symptoms. Binge eating usually occurs in secrecy and episodes may not be planned in advance. Binge eating often continues until the individual is uncomfortably, or even painfully, full and these episodes are often triggered by dysphoric (i.e.
Avatar f tn I am currently recovering from an eating disorder. I have been doing the South Beach Diet for five weeks. I have been on plan 100% but have gained 13+ pounds. I am doing the 30 Day Shred DVD daily along with other exercises. I know I have screwed up my metabolism and it will take me a lot longer to see results. I am thrilled to be recovering and not in the control of food and eating 24/7...but I am really having a hard time sticking with it when all I do is gain..
Avatar n tn ve been struggling with medical therapies as well as binge eating disorder but I also shuffle to bed after anorexia. I'm 16 and I'm afraid this is just the beginning.
Avatar f tn I'm a 55 Y/O female who has been binge eating for about 20 years. I've been to every kind of therapy, even went to a psychiatrist who specializes in eating disorders, gave me an RX ( don't remember the name) I've gained and lost 50LBS 3 times, this time I gained 60LBS and can't loose the last 25. I can't control my eating no matter what I do. I've also been to OA and I didn't like it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn I've always suffered from binge eating. 3 months ago I tried Meridia, and it was wonderful. I do not like to take medicines...therefore I stopped taking Meridia, but sometimes I take one for a few days when I believe I'm eating too much....but as soon as i stop taking it, I go back to the same old habits. Do you know of something similar that I can take w/o the same side effects...
Avatar f tn Binge eating after dinner please help I always do really well then after dinner I blow it and I know ive gotta get rid of this problem to loose the weight I want.
1397290 tn?1357777871 When I first went into treatment for my anorexia and started eating my metabolism went crazy. I was eating 3 'normal' meals a day and 3 resourse snacks (which were high calorie condensed snacks, like ensure shakes), then when I went to bed I was hooked up to tube feeding and they had to put me on transport, meaning I couldn't walk anywhere which would burn calories, becasue I could not gain weight.
Avatar f tn I have oesteosporosis and I binge eat. Binge eating has never been a problem in the past because I have always been very thin and never gained weight, until now. For years my weight has been between 102 & 106. I'm 5'3". Over the past few years I have gained 15 lbs. and it keeps adding on. I can't believe that at my age , this is a huge problem for me.

1203175 tn?1265553335 I would not recommend not eating or drinking but I think sometimes eating smaller meals more regularly can help. I like the use of healthy snacks between meals or after workouts. Over a period of time you should become aware of things that work best for you. You might need to play with it a bit. Enjoy the process and have fun with it.
Avatar n tn Hi - binge purging can throw off the metabolism of the individual. Over the years, I have seen bulimics shut down their metabolism where they can hardly eat much and gain weight rapidly. With your longstanding history and 4-5x/day of binge-purging you could be one of those individuals. I have seen it reversed. However, being under a skilled registered dietitian and treatment team is most likely the best answer for you at this time.
Avatar f tn Is anyone familiar with binge eating disorder? I have been struggling with what I believe is binge eating disorder. It has gotten out of control and I am at a loss as to how to stop it. I have gained a horrible amount of weight and am miserable. I just want to regain control and able to cope in a healthy way...
Avatar f tn The best thing to do is not have junk food in the house, if you can't stop with eating a single portion. Replace the chips, cookies, etc with fresh cut up veggies, such as carrots, celery, radishes, broccoli, or cauliflower. You'll get the same crunch, but you'll get nutrition instead of the fat and empty calories. If you need the salt, sprinkle on just a tad of sea salt to add a bit of flavor.
Avatar f tn Check out a previous article of mine about tips on eating healthy for those recovering from an eating disorder. Once you start eating again, without purging, you may experience some bloating and discomfort. I listed some foods that may help with this process. As always, my disclaimer is: I am not a medical professional. I speak from experience and what I found worked for me. I post these tips and suggestions as guidelines only.
Avatar f tn I am afraid that if I consume 1200 calories my metabolism will shut down. I gained more weight than desired from binge eating and now I'd like to lose a few pounds to get to a weight where I feel comfortable. I know that being this size and getting mistaken for being pregnant can lead to a relapse so I'm trying to go about this in a healthy manner and get back to the size that made me feel good. Any advice whatsoever?
Avatar f tn PCOS is pretty complicated, I have it as well. As well, more you binge and purge, the more messed up your metabolism will be. Phentermine is a controlled substance in the US, with some pretty severe side effects - many countries do not even allow this drug class any more.

Avatar f tn If you really want to kick-start your metabolism, you may also try dividing your meals up into smaller portions that you eat more often throughout the day. Every time you eat, it helps your metabolism rise, so as strange as it may sound, eating frequently can help you lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. Take care!
