Biaxin and bartonella

Common Questions and Answers about Biaxin and bartonella

biaxin

Avatar f tn I was on Biaxin alone for 3mos and felt semi normal which for me is great. LLMD added Doxy and it has made all my symptoms come back worse than before. I want to quit the doxy but im told to just ride it out. I am wondering what exactly Doxy helps with? I kno biaxin helps with Bartonella for example. But what does Doxy do exactly for someone with late stage chronic lyme?
Avatar f tn So the next day, my doc said to stop and he put me on Biaxin and Plaquenil, which he said would work on both Lyme and Bartonella. No basketball or tennis or racquetball for me until a few months after the Levaquin has worn off. ;) I had to hold off on the Biaxin until I took 10 days of Diflucan for my yeast problem. Then, I took Biaxin for a few days (and felt crummy) and then the yeast problems came back. So, I'm off Biaxin until the 2nd round of Diflucan is done (10 days).
4939681 tn?1361299299 The "official" position on Bartonella by the CDC and the IDSA is that bartonella henselae is a mild disease that is usually self resolving (the immune system takes care of it without meds). When many LLMDs began pointing out that a lot of Lyme patients also had Bartonella, the "official" response was that, no, we do not get it from ticks, even though it is proven that ticks carry the disease.
Avatar m tn I was taking Biaxin 500mg twice a day for a week and then took the rpr two days later. could this affect the results in any way?
4451049 tn?1387153437 My doc explained that it made cells more alkaline which made the Biaxin more effective at penetrating cells to get at the Lyme or Bartonella inside. He said it could make Biaxin up to 40% more effective. He did warn me about the potential vision issue but that it was very rare. He said I'd need regular eye exams while on it, about every few months.
Avatar m tn If I was infected with any of the above, would an 8 day course of Biaxin resolved these? And yes it was 8 days and not the usual 10 for whatever reason. 2. I've read on this site that most of these STD's resolve themselves within a few months even without treatment, but other medical and government websites specifically say the exact opposite and say only way to get rid of infection is to seek treatment. Which is it?
Avatar f tn t sure if my pain was a die off or a side effect of Levaquin. Just to be safe, they had me stop. My doc added in Biaxin and Plaquenil, which makes the Biaxin more effective. He said it is good for both Bart and Lyme when they go intracellular. What a crazy set of diseases. I am on 8 different meds, not including the others I have taken in the last few months. Three for symptoms, two antibiotics, two helpers for the abx, and one cyst buster.
Avatar n tn I had 2 women perform oral sex on me and about 2-3 months later I had a chest cold and my doctor gave me biaxin 2x500mg a day for 10 days. then a few months later had amoxicillian 3x500mg a day for 10 days for another unrelated infection (my docs loves to give antibiotics) If I did get a std like gonnerea or clymidia or anything else that is bacterial would the biaxin get rid of it?...keep in mind I have had no unprotested sexual intercourse just received oral from a women.
723952 tn?1231857532 they are cyst-busters. I was on biaxin for that purpose (along with another med to kill the bugs after they came out of the cyst), but had a reaction to it after several months; so the dr switched me to flagyl and a different antibiotic. It's a fair question why the dr would give you two cyst busters. Sounds like a lot. Good luck with the new job!! Sounds like a good one.
1464587 tn?1307491605 the doctor and I decided that I should try a differnt antibiotic so we switched to the Generic form of Biaxin.... Clarithromycin...... I was on it for 2 months and dropped 18 pounds and 3/4 of my hair..... we pulled out what was in the shower drain alone and you could of made a wig out of it pretty much...... the only other symptoms I had while on this medicine apart from the hair loss is that my hands would swell and night......I had excessive bruising all over.....
1094370 tn?1317134825 My testing for lyme is still coming up positive and there were more positive bands and stronger ones than my last test three months ago. He said that the meds I'm currently are on do not treat lyme. After this course of meds, I am switching to Amox & Biaxin to begin treating the lyme. My CD57 shot up from like 20 to 87 though! That is the highest it's been in a long time so that is good news! The last few days, I seem to be feeling a bit better.
4939681 tn?1361299299 Per my request my LLMD reluctantly prescribed plaquenil. Like the recent post about denial, I think it was, I'm still riding the fence about what truly is going on with me and until I see the Igenex and biopsy results I probably will doubt everything. I told my LLMD that my biggest problem right now is the enlarged lymph nodes. If I could get them to clear up then I could manage to get out of bed and tackle the other issues.
Avatar f tn Last week I was diagnosed with a duodenal ulcer and am taking Amoxicillin, Biaxin and Prevacid. I am one week into treatment and feel only marginally better. My question is about stomach tenderness. Is a tender stomach normal with a peptic ulcer? My entire stomach area, from just below my breasts, down to my navel, is very tender to the touch. When touched it produces like a burning/stinging/bruised feeling. Depending on the day, or time of the day, the pain is greater or less.
Avatar f tn Swollen glands was a huge problem for me with Bartonella. For Barts I used Rifampin. I did ABX for two years and I am now on an herbal protocol. A common rash with Barts is when it looks like stretch marks.
551343 tn?1506830518 My daughter got bit by a tick a year ago, and in hindsight, I believe she got Bartonella. She had an unexplained fever for a day, and then got a red rash on each of her flanks (from where the kidneys are in the back and around the side, down to the waist) with little scratch marks, about five on each side near the waist line. The first time it showed up, she complained that it hurt and asked for acetaminophen. It was warm to the touch. It faded in a couple days.
Avatar f tn I was looking at a document on the web about Bartonella and saw something unfamiliar. It said that Bartonella Henselae and Bartonella Quintana can both cause peliosis of the liver. I'd never heard of peliosis. I went to look it up and came across a document that showed a picture of a liver scan that looks just like mine did 18 months ago. I had a good sized mass that was diagnosed as a focal nodular hyperplasia along with white smudgy spots the radiologist thought was fatty infiltration.
Avatar f tn My LLMD is changing my antibiotic treatment to Omnicef and Biaxin for 3 more months. Mainly because he believes Flagyl was responsible for my hormone imbalance and I wasn't able to keep it down since I got the flu. Has anyone been treated with this combination? It's the first time I have hear about it, but I have taken these before for other infections and did just fine. I am hopeful since my CD57 has gone up from 23 to 56. However, my IgM results show more Lyme.
Avatar n tn Also, while walking from a cold start can be stiff and painful, if I stretch and warm up, I can exercise and not have too much trouble. It is actually therapeutic for me. Pain in the shins, is a symptom often associated with the Bartonella-like co-infection. (I have it, actually have a picture on my fridge from Fry labs that shows it in my blood.) Bartonella responds to different antibiotics than Lyme. Have you found an LLMD yet?
Avatar f tn Not sure where the rest of post is. Day 2 - 500mg Clarithromycin & Amox 875mg that night. This morning took 500mg of both Clarithromycin & Amox, and Ceftiaxone 1gm IV. I am aware of CDC guidelines and think that this single dose of rocephin & a total of 5gm of Biaxin over 4-5 days (in place of Azithromycin) should be effective? How long should I wait to engage in intercourse with my significant other?
Avatar f tn My LLMD prescribed it for me along with Biaxin, which is used to treat intracellular Lyme and Bartonella. He said that the Plaquenil makes the body more alkaline, which allows the Biaxin to more easily penetrate infected cells. He said P makes Biaxin up to 40% more effective. And so, that might explain why P helped your fingers, but not permanently. P eases inflammation, but does nothing against an infection.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the answer...just one last point, the biaxin and amoxicilian were taken at different times around 2-3 months apart. Biaxin was for a Resp infection and the amoxicilian was for my saliva gland issue. These all have been taken throughtout the last year since exposure. Would Biaxin or amoxicial cure syphlis by themselves?. no more questions from me so I would like to thank you for your time!.
Avatar m tn I did the same thing after taking an antihistamine and got all upset and mine went up to 120. As soon as I forced myself to relax and quit checking it slowly went back to normal.
6402846 tn?1391063748 m still in treatment after 2 1/2 years. I started with Bicillin shots and orals for Bartonella. Bart seemed to be gone after six months so we stopped treating it. After nearly a year, I was diagnosed with Babesia and started abx for it. I felt worse for the next 8 months. Just as I started to fell better, I got slammed by a Bartonella relapse, worse than I'd had before.
