Betaseron side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Betaseron side effects

betaseron

Avatar f tn Worth nothing is that the flu-like side effects of Avonex often are less troubling after the first few weeks or months, but I've never seen anyone suggest that the mood-related side effects dissipate.
Avatar f tn Hi both, thank you for your comments, that's fine, it sounds like I don't need to worry. Must say Shelly the side effects haven't been too bad at all, a bit of a temperature for a couple of days - the only problem is I am just getting over it and it's time for another injection - I take paracetamol to counteract this,I can't say that I have really had flu-like symptoms though.
Avatar f tn If you would forget to take pills, for example, you need to be on an injectible. Consider the common side effects and which ones you can most readily live with. You may not even suffer the side effects, but you need to be prepared for them. I’m sorry you hadn’t had a response for 20 hours … ask questions anytime!
1002640 tn?1280746685 Well, I have now done 5 injections of Betaseron..no side effects so far (0.25mg dose right now) This has been a very stress free shot for me. When I was on copaxone I was so anxious over the possible reaction of chest pain etc..and then the immediate reaction of stinging pain and baseball size welts, this is a breeze. Hopefully it continues with ease and I can continue on this DMD. Just wish it would take my symptoms away, Id rather have a cure.
721523 tn?1331581802 I hate that you're having side effects, but I'm glad you're feeling better. Hopefully the side effects will be short lived. My nurse mentioned that each time we up the dose . . . we might experience the flu symptoms again. YeeHaw!! I'll be increasing on Saturday. I have noticed that the spots (about quarter size) are showing up several days after the injections. Are your spots tender, or just red? I've been very tired and am experiencing some vertigo.
233622 tn?1279334905 m not on betaseron, but am glad to hear you are making a change to see if you can find a combination to slow your MS. Getting the new MRI done on the stronger machine is so important for your baseline... it will give your new neuro a good view as to where you are coming from. And you're right, it might show where you have new damage that is causing your changes.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Betaseron for over 14 years, with no substantial side effects. I was told I would have to switch over to Extavia after the first of the year. ??????????? I have a couple problems with the Extavia, One being it looks to me that Extavia may be trying to save some money ,[[ At the patients expense ] one--a possible cheaper syringe???
Avatar f tn I was on Rebif for a while, and, yes, I did gain a few pounds, and, yes, in the list of side effects in the tiny print that came with it, weight gain was one of the side effects to tell your doctor about.
1707517 tn?1313247961 I'm not sure which is better, I think it depends on the person taking them. I've been using Rebif for just over 10 months now. The side effects slowly got less and less, and now as long as I take a couple Tytenol extra stength before injecting, I usually don't notice any side effects. I had an MRI a couple months ago that showed no changes from the one done a year previously. No matter which DMD you choose, the important thing is you're ARE choosing one.
Avatar f tn I have been on Betaseron for 2 years with no side effects and am happy with it. Obviously with the NHS I have no choice about the change. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
3162052 tn?1345047012 I expected the headaches, but not really overly anticipating any side effects. Just trying to remain educated so when I start Betaseron I can watch for any signs of something coming up. I got a call for my neuro and she actually wants me to get some blood tests BEFORE I start on it. So they may be a chance now that I don't even start it at all, and we try something else instead. Symptoms? I can get around just fine thus far and hope it stays that way for a long time.
195469 tn?1388322888 Pre-medicating before your injection was helpful to me and I always took it at night, to try and sleep through most side-effects. For others, like myself, the side-effects did not go away or even lessen over time and after three years, I finally gave up on the drug. I understand that is fairly rare. But I can tell you, that Avonex worked wonders for keeping me stable and free of relapses, even for a few years after stopping the drug. My MRI's didn't worsen for almost 5 years.
376513 tn?1217858105 I have decided to go on leave at work until my body sorts it self out I am tired of all the side effects and with probably starting new meds ( prob Rebif ) I am gonna have side effects yet again I think Tylenol is my best friend lol...so staying home is probably the best thing for me and with the snow that is going to come in a few months so will the flu and colds....no thanks as my immune wouldn't be able to handle it being around all the truck drivers I deal with day to day...
Avatar f tn I haven't heard of such a side effect, and no such side effects are listed with any of the Interferon Beta 1A or B ( Rebif, Betaseron, Avonex, Extavia). Please call your primary care doctor and discuss these symptoms. They can be something serious. Don't wait!
Avatar m tn I took Copaxone for a year and side effects were not bad. The injections stung for a bit afterward but it was tolerable. I had no other issues. I suffer from Depression so choosing was easy since all the others can worsen depression. Good Luck to you.
Avatar f tn t have a flu-like reaction, but had to switch to Betaseron after two and a half years because of side effects. Betaseron requires a blood test every six months to make sure your liver is working. If I had to switch again, I would ask for Gilenya - the relapse rate is much reduced (I think 50%) and progression is much slower. The only problem with that is the slowed heart rate upon first administration.
1437229 tn?1296070020 Thank you, MsmsinFl. Unfortunately, I tend to be very sensitive to medications, and their side-effects. So, I was not altogether shocked when I noticed it. I have already made plans that if I begin losing mine rapidly my friends and I are going to have ahead shaving party. A good friend who recently went through chemo has offered me her scarves. By the way, TSH is only for men, correct? That would not apply to me. I have already lost 5 pounds in 7 days from the nausea it has caused.
392094 tn?1201273310 I was wondering if anyone new a website where I could go and see comparisons in the different MS drugs, Avonex, Copaxone, Rebif, and Betaseron. I am interested in the success, side effects and anything that would be beneficial in helping us to decide which drug to choose.
Avatar f tn I see that some of you are getting the vaccine in the next week or so. Just to say I had mine a couple of weeks ago and had absolutely no side effects. I'm glad I finally made the decision to get it. Just one word of advice though, if you sleep on your side I would definitely recommend that you get it in the arm that you don't sleep on. Anyone I know that has had the H1N1 vaccine has had quite a sore arm for several days.
