Common Questions and Answers about Benicar kidney disease

benicar

Avatar m tn I have being training for several running races for 5 months. Before going into a preparation for a half marathon training, I went to the cardiologist to do a check up, as I know my BP always was borderline to be considered high. I did Echo, Stress tests and 24h BP measurements. Echo and stress went all right, but BP was slightly high, my mean systolic pressure was 133 and mean diastolic was 83, with the maximum during the test being 148 an 100.
1260320 tn?1270394906 I'm on Benicar HCT, have been for many years. Benicar is in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Benicar keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. Benicar HCT has a diuretic included as well. I have been fortunate, Benicar has worked from the first day I took it and works well still today. My 90 day average BP is 108/67 down from 135/85 when I started. I have had no side effects as well, the best of both worlds!
Avatar f tn 34 is considered moderate kidney disease. You may want to google kidney diet and try some of that. There is a thread a ways back 'Diet does make a difference' where I go through what my kidney doctor told me to do when I was at a GFR higher than yours (mind you I was 36 at the time so they were a bit more concerned).
Avatar f tn For persistently high BP ,one has to exclude cardiac problems, kidney problems, hormonal problems, water retention, electrolyte imbalance, the presence of nerve related problems,an underlying systemic medical condition ( increased blood thickness or viscosity, hypercoagulable states). I suggest that you have a complete work up done.
Avatar f tn I am looking for a doctor who specializes in the Marshall Protocol that is with 3 hours of Columbus, Ohio. I am convinced I have Lyme disease and have had CFS for 25 years. It really makes me angry becasue I pushed for antibiotics 25 years ago and no one would even test me. Now I find it may have easily been taken care of, had I recieved treatment then..
Avatar n tn My PCP removed the metropol and put me on benicar 20mg. A couple of weeks later I went to see a cardio doc for chest pain and dizziness. He admitted me overnight and They did a stress test with an echo, they also did 3 blood tests to check to see if i had a heart attack. Everything was fine and he switched me to Coreg. The chest pains got worse and my PCP switched me from the Coreg to Benicar 40mg since my BP was not low enough and my chest pains increased on the Coreg.
Avatar n tn I experience variuos fluctuations even using Benicar. My blood pressure had some for some reason risen to 170/101 two months ago and my primary doctor prescribed Benicar. Well, it reduce my blood pressure to the normal range, but it fluctuates to as low as 86/54 and up to 136/86. Along with this I have lightheadeness, dizziness, some breathing problems, some numbness in my hands and unsteady walking. What I would like to find out if this relates to heart trouble.
Avatar f tn Thought we finally found one that worked. The doctor gave me Benicar 20mg and it helped (so did losing 20 pounds) but my BP was still borderline. Then he increased the Benicar to 40 mg. I am having some strange issues that I think are from the Benicar. When I awake from sleeping I have trouble opening my left eyelid. Once I am up this goes away. Now all of a sudden I cannot put the milk gallon in the refrigerator without using two hands.
Avatar f tn I know the Marshall Protocol has had success with people who have had chronic lyme disease. And, the Benicar works with the low-dose antibiotics and is able to kill the bacteria in the tissues. Here is just one of the numerous success stories. This patient was on high dose antibiotics for lyme disease and then he did the Marshall Protocol.. He talks about his illness, how long it took to get an accurate diagnosis and various treatments: http://bacteriality.
Avatar n tn I recently had open heart surgery, 4 bypasses. I was on Benicar 20mg. a day before the surgery along with Zocor to control cholesterol. I am now on Plavix, Toprol XL, Zocor and Benicar. My blood pressure has been low, in the range of 90/60 since the surgery but the cardiologist wants me to continue the Benicar. He said it's "good for the heart". Has anyone ever heard of this before? My understanding was that Benicar is for high BP.
Avatar m tn I've recently been having terrible anxiety and one of the changes in my life is that I've started taking Benicar 40mg for high blood pressure. I saw on a post somewhere that benicar can cause this. Has anyone else heard of this?
Avatar n tn About a year ago I was put on high blood pressure medication, Benicar 20mg a day. I have never had any types of heart issue and in the last year have developed or started to notice regular PVC's. I have had them checked out and they are PVC's and they drive me nuts because they make me feel real uncomfortable. Could the PVC's be caused by the benicar?
Avatar n tn Dear Doctor, I am a healthy 36 year old male. In the last year I was put on Benicar 20 mg for high blood pressure. In that year I have began to notice PVC's that started occassionally and now are happening everyday all day. They drive me crazy. My blood pressure is under control and I exercise regularly. Could the Benicar cause the PVC's? I have had them checked out with my doctor and they tell me that they are okay and that they are PVC's. They drive insane.
Avatar m tn Lately, I have been diagnosed with high blood pressure (on benicar now) and yesterday I saw a neurologist who told me that I have mild Carpel Tunnel and a pinched nerve. For the last two days, I have a dull headache in the back of my head and am filling kind of weak, also I feel like I am moving slower, like my speech and thoughts. Am I just freaking myself out or is there something seriously wrong with me?
1205076 tn?1310609559 I also take Effexor XR, Wellbutrin, Lopid, tessalon perle, sonata, robaxin, nexium (for 3 months now), benicar, toprol XR, Ultram, Lyrica, aspirin, I cannot take NSAIDs anymore due to an acute kidney failure 2 years ago. I tell you all of the background so you will know all the variables. I have a sleep study on Mar 1, but I was hoping to hear a suggestion as to what it might be before that. Thank you.
Avatar n tn I am a 72 y.o. white male in generally excellent health. I've had HTN for years, always well-controlled with meds. Two weeks ago my BP spiked, literally overnight, from ~118/74 to 210/116 (yes, I know that;'s dangerous!) At the time I was on Benicar 40 mg. I added amlodipine 10 mg (my doc trusts me to self-titrate) and that helped somewhat--down to ~160/92. Then she added spironolactone 25 mg (that's a diuretic).
Avatar n tn Hello, The symptoms are definitely suggestive of kidney disease. You should get an ultrasound kidneys and kidney function tests done to confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn I would encourage both of you to talk with his endocrinologist about looking into possible changes that can bring his a1c levels well down below 7. That truly is his best protection not only against kidney disease, but against other complications. If sugar levels are maintained at near normal levels, damage cannot happen.
Avatar f tn I have a 14 year old cocker spaniel who was recently diagnosed with kidney disease. She originally got sick a few weeks ago with pacreatitis, and when she recovered her lab work showed the kidney problems. We have been giving her fluids every other night as well as the epakitin powder with her food. Her blood report was better this last time. However she seems pretty good, has a good appetite ect and I'm wondering if there is anything else that could be causing this disease?

Avatar f tn Hi there, about a month and a half ago I started feeling like something was always under both my ribs and it has been persistently like this and it's really uncomfortable, I'm also always itchy at night and have been feeling really dizzy and lightheaded constantly. I've went to my doctors and they took my bloods and all that came up was that my potassium levels were slightly high.

387767 tn?1345872027 Be sure to discuss all recommended vaccines with your veterinarian. A cat with kidney disease or kidney failure should not be vaccinated at all. Long-term feeding of an all-dry-food diet is also suspected as a factor in Chronic Renal Failure. Cats' kidneys are highly efficient and adapted to life in the desert, where they would get most or all of their water from eating their prey.
