Common Questions and Answers about Avonex therapy

avonex

Avatar f tn How do you determine whick injection therapy works best, by trial and error? My Neurologist gave me books on three of them: Rebif, Copaxone, and Avonex.
Avatar m tn But he offered me AVONEX and after one year all symptoms were gone and he did stop my AVONEX therapy. From that moment till now I had some times some special feeling in my legs but from 6 months back I feel slight disability in my left leg. The thing is, my right side is totally normal but I have problem with my left side. BTW, I think, if I am right, the number of lesions in my mind was between 6 and 8. I don't remember exact number. Again thank you for your time.
Avatar f tn I have been on Avonex for the last 15 years and have finally reached my limit. I am taking a 6 week break from the Avonex and will be starting Copaxone at the end of April. I actually have two questions: 1) Has anyone taken a break from their medication for that long (and if so, any consequences) and 2) Has anyone switched from Avonex to Copaxone, and if so, how did you do?
506903 tn?1211847133 I have a friend who went off her DMD (Avonex) to try bee sting therapy. Six months or so after going off the Avonex, she had a major relapse and ended up in a wheelchair. She is now diagnosed as RPMS.
288459 tn?1201291329 I hate to change my therapy since I think I am handling the Avonex rather well otherwise. Could this be a MS issue alone? I am currently waiting for a call from my neuro's office which I felt downright ridiculous calling to tell them about this issue. But I have put it off for quite some time and I fear I am going to seriously offend someone if I don't get to the bottom of my problem.
389314 tn?1200537076 If a woman becomes pregnant or plans to become pregnant while taking AVONEX® , she should be informed of the potential hazards to the fetus, and discontinuation of AVONEX® therapy should be considered. If a woman becomes pregnant while taking AVONEX® , consider enrolling her in the AVONEX® Pregnancy Registry by calling 1-800-456-2255.
2015036 tn?1332997788 t see my neuro until next month, and I have had more difficulty with allergic reaction to Avonex. For the last couple of months, I've been able to control it with 10mg of oral prednisone, and two benadryl tablets- along with the usual pre medication for interferon. Last week, the rash persisted for an additional day. This week, the rash/itchiness is still present, three days later. I don't want to give up! Other than the skin rash, this dmd has been the most tolerable for me.
Avatar f tn She said the side effects hopefully will reduce and she think te depression is from the avonex. As for the physical therapy, I am more than happy go be proactive about it. I am 25 so I have a long road a head and considering I'm limping and can't feel it I think it's best to try some PT. As for my arm, she said that she was expecting more of a recovery than what I have, and that I'm so young to have this much disability from one attack.
Avatar n tn Hi anuj, I read ur question. I also diagnosed ms just few days ago, nd I also prescribed injection avonex. But I wish I could give u exact answer but I don't have any personally experience about avonex coz I don't start avonex yet but I know I will.Just m saying that i found on google that when ever u inject just relax, don't take any stress, u may get flu like symptom so take ibruphen, take rest how much u can, then of course, u can manage it.
Avatar f tn I have figured out that if I take my injection out of the frig at least 6 hours before I inject, then the next day goes much much better. But, I am starting to wonder if the Avonex is working for me because I am having more symptoms. I am also looking for a new neurologist. The last visit with my neurologist left me feeling baffled. He just didn't know why I am feeling vibrations in my body especially when I am lying down.
1168718 tn?1464983535 I think Avonex, as the lone intermuscular option of the injectables, is less prone to cause lipoatrophy. I'm not sure of Australia's timeline (my assumption based on 'Victoria' as your location) for Tecfidera approval or how amenable you are to taking such a recently approved drug, but I do think that Gilenya (another oral) is approved there as well and might be something to look into if injections are causing concern.
12030399 tn?1423224444 Hi, I'm sorry, but I can't help with your question, as I've never taken Copaxone. I'm on Rebif now, but started therapy with Avonex several years ago. When I first started the Avonex, the warning was that you could get "flu'like" symptoms, with fever and chills, but that they would get better in time. With the first injection, I had them all, but the reassurance about getting better in time was on the mark, so I hope that the same is true for you.
Avatar f tn ) Also, Avonex is only once a week. Biogen Idec, maker of Avonex, is also offering Plegridy, which sounds exactly like Avonex but maybe shallower shot, and I believe only once every 2 weeks. You might read up on this. My neuro is not big on Gilenya, because of possible cardio effects, though for me that could be age-related, as I'm now about 500 :-) I don't know much about Aubagio, and it isn't often discussed here.
1950519 tn?1324518193 Over the last 12 years he has been on Avonex, Betaseron, Copaxone drugs. Now he is completing the 2 year mark of using Tysabri. Dr Appointment in 2 weeks assume he will stop infusions. I wonder what is next???? How are others doing after all these treatment and now what do they take???
Avatar n tn First, contrary to what maxthecat wrote, this is from the Avonex medication guide: "AVONEX PEN should only be injected into the muscle of your upper, outer thigh." Anyway, I hate the shots too, so I completely know how you feel … although I’ve been taking them only half as long as you have.
Avatar f tn I'm 45 yrs and I feel like I have achieved absautely nothing. To get to the point////// the best years of my body looking good is over!!!! Since I been injecting copaxone in my thighs the have truly taken on a whole new shape...not the most flattering....my neuro said I don't have that deformity that is associated with copaxone, I gueas with my weight gain, from the differnt x's of using prenisone, zoloft, and I'm not sure but copaxone has steroids in it as well ???
97654 tn?1214348650 Hi, I was recently diagnosed with MS and had my first Avonex injection Friday. Friday night was tough (fever, chills, pain and eventually heavy sweating) but I felt pretty good by Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon I started feeling kind of down and by Sunday morning I feel even more so. I can't decide if this is a result of the drug or just the situation as a whole.
Avatar f tn Sigh, I have a question from a friend. She would like to know if avonex causes calcium deficiency? She is diagnosed with ms. Not like me.
