avonex joint pain

For those that take Avonex, how bad have the flu like symptoms been for you? I had been on Copaxone and just recently stopped because I have had it with the huge welts and lumps the size of eggs. I am tempted to just take a see how it goes attitude since my MS seems to be mild and not do the DMD's for the time being. My neuro brought up Avonex and told me about the flu like symptoms and I don't know if that or the welts and lumps are worse?

I have the following to report Dr is very happy with where I am at however he wants to rerun ALL my bloodwork since I am having alot of joint aching and my ANA levels are elevated. Even checking Lymes and Lupus again. And he wants me to see a Rheumatologist. Had OCT exam and waiting on results of that - after blood work comes back we are probably going to adjust my spasticity medicine. This is my one truly aggravating symptom.

hi everybody. i just started my avonex last sat. the first shot went good. felt good afterwards. no side efects. did my shot this week and man i feel like a train hit me. my neck my back are hurting me. my eyes are bothering me a headace. real tired. dont feel like doing nothing. go to my nero. on friday morning. is this normal after doing avonex? i seem like i cant do anything very long at all. it wears me out and i hurt all the time. my left leg just dont do what its surpose to do.

After being on Avonex for 1 1/2 years I have developed new side effects?? Red eyes with severe pain (in my eyes & behind my eyes) It started several months ago and now happens with each weekly injection. Has anyone here had to discontinue Avonex due to side effects?

As I wrote before, I did fairly well with my first Avonex injection on Monday, had some side effects, took it easy on Tuesday, then felt well enough to run some errands on Wednesday. However, by Wed. night, my thigh kind of burned like I'd worked out real hard, and my radicular pain started acting up in the other leg, then proceeded to wrap around the top of my thigh like it's done in the past.

I used Avonex for 396 shots (7+ years), and after going to Gilenya on Halloween I’m going back to Avonex this month. The flu-like side effects of Avonex are most common, but often easily minimized. Some keys are to keep hydrated, inject in the afternoon or evening (preferably Fri/Sat if you work a standard week) and use drugs such as Tylenol, Advil, Aleve, etc. For me the side effects lessened over time. However, I know of others that found them intolerable.

Wondering if Avonex can cause itchiness & rashes throughout body after a few mos. of using. Was on it for 1 1/2 yrs., stopped for 8 mos. & resumed. Started getting some rashes & itchiness throughout body. Thank you !

I have excruciating pain that comes from my back. But the pain is from spasticity not my actual back. Have you already ruled out spinal issues?

I have had MS for 10 years and I just stopped my AVONEX so I can try and get pregnant I know it sounds stupid but there is no studies on avonex and pregnancy so I just thought I would ask if any one else has been on some treatment or off to get pregnant? and how long were you off your meds ?

I'm just curious... Do Avonex injections hurt all that much? I do a subcutaneous Betaseron injection and I don't feel a thing, not even a pinch when I inject. I just wanted to keep an open mind about possibly switching DMDs but the thought of doing an intramuscular injection gives me the heebie jeebies.

Hi guys, has anyone not heard from the AVONEX people once they were put on it.??? I have heard from heath nurses, and today, got my WELCOME package, but still no product. I don't know what is going on, and of course the lady or the rep from Avonex is away on holidays till the 2nd. of Dec..... so, I guess we will do it next week ... Just to let you guys know, they stopped my antiobiotic IV today, and said that it was an MS attack. Wherever there are nerves, MS can strike.

Any suggestion for decreasing the pain in the leg from the Avonex shot. I am still experiencing pain in my left leg 4 days after the shot. I do not experience any flu like symptoms after the shot. I experience tightening in the chest for 10 minutes (48 hours after the shot). I also experience tightness in my lower back under my shoulder 24 - 48 hours after the shot.

This past Monday evening I did my Avonex shot as usual, took a preemptive Aleve and an Ambien, and went to bed. All routine. Woke Tuesday feeling very tired and out of sorts, but not a big deal. That sometimes happens with the shot. I curtailed my activities, but by afternoon I felt sick enough that I needed to be in bed. That evening I shivered for hours under warm blankets, and then started one of the sickest times of my entire life.

The majority of people do just fine on Avonex. We don't hear from them because they are off living their pretty normal lives. ACtually, I think we have a skewed population of MS sufferers because we are so badly affected by our disease.

I had no pain in my legs prior to starting Avonex a month ago. The shot really hurts regardless of how long I ice the leg. I use the 25G, 1 in. needle as I'm a slender woman. I'm lucky not to get any significant flu like symptoms. I do experience pain/tension in my side and back 48 hours after the shot. Advil has helped with the pain.

I could still walk on my toes with both feet and go back on my heel on one foot. Now I can do none. Am I progressing? I am on Avonex and know it takes sometime to work but I am concerned because I have several new symptoms. I see my doctor in two weeks.

Copaxone burned and left nasty irritated injection site welts. The only side effect I had from Avonex is that I was a bit tired. I took the pain relievers and didn't have any bad side effects. I just recommend taking it easy. Oh and the injection itself didn't really hurt at all.

MY DR WANTS ME TO TAKE AVONEX OR REBIF, TRIED COPAXONE IN 2004 HORRIBLE LUMPS THE SIZE OF GOLF BALLS. STOPPED AFTER 3 MOS. I AM GETTING WORSE IN MY GAIT. MY KNEES ARE WEAK & IN PAIN. I AM JUST INTOERABLE TO ABOUT EVERY DRUG OUT THERE. CAN'T TAKE ANTIDEPRESSANTS- WHICH I NEED TO TAKE ACCORDING TO ALL I READ. WHAT HAVE YOU STRUGGLED THROUGH & HOW LONG TO MAKE A DECISION. IT SOUNDS HORRIBLE & SCAREY. MY QUAILTY OF LIFE IS GETTING WORSE - SO ONLY A FOOL WOULDN'T TRY - RIGHT?!

Hi anuj, I read ur question. I also diagnosed ms just few days ago, nd I also prescribed injection avonex. But I wish I could give u exact answer but I don't have any personally experience about avonex coz I don't start avonex yet but I know I will.Just m saying that i found on google that when ever u inject just relax, don't take any stress, u may get flu like symptom so take ibruphen, take rest how much u can, then of course, u can manage it.

I have been on Gilenya since it came out, 4 or 5 year ago. It is much better than the other drugs I'd been on, Rebif and Avonex. Those made me feel terrible and had horrible injection site reactions. Gilenya has not caused me any digestive problems. I did loose some hair for the first year or so, but not too bad. Also, though it is not listed as a side effect, I have had joint problems that came on just since starting gilenya.
