Common Questions and Answers about Avodart psa

avodart

Avatar n tn Also, is there any current opinion regarding use of Avodart or Proscar while in Watchful Waiting mode? I understand there would be a likely reduction in PSA, but that new PSA baseline be established and return to monitoring of PSA velocity. Not sure what, if any, benefit this would provide. I am considering brachytherapy as an ultimate choice of treatment, but do not want my "window" for it to close. Your thoughts?
Avatar f tn s father passed away from prostate cancer that spread to the back bone and blood. My dad is on Avodart and his PSA is 1.5 which the doctor is very happy with. His doctor, who is a specialist, said that if the PSA does not go up in 6 months and continues to decrease, then he may not need another biopsy after the 6 months unless the PSA goes back up. My dad is in a study and is being evaluated every 4 to 6 months.
Avatar m tn After adjusting for Avodart, PSA is well below the normal level of 3. Do I have an undetected sexually transmitted infection, such as HSV-2. Is it possible that an undetected chlamydial infection could be causing this burning. I've never had any sort of "outbreaks," nor do I have any sort of “discharge.” This burning began when I started taking Avodart AND Depo Testosterone injections concomitantly, just over three years ago.
Avatar m tn If his PSA value is low, it is just BPH (benign Prostate Hyperplasia). The prostate is enlarged (although 22cc is not big) and can press against the bladder or limit the flow of urine. The first can give rise to urge incontinency (urge to pee although the volume in the bladder is still low), the second can make it difficult to fully empty the bladder and so shortens the interval between to toilet visits.
Avatar m tn When I developed gynecomastia (which is minor and I ignore) I lowered the dose of AVODART to one twice a week which is 8/month (from 15/month). AVODART has a long half life. Will 8/month still work? I wrote to GLaxo who make Avodart and they said what you said "ask your physician". My physician is very busy and I don't want to waste his time. My next appointment is in June and I will ask at that time if I don't have an answer by then.
Avatar m tn m wondering if I could be in the beginning stages of prostate cancer (after adjusting for Avodart my PSA is well below the normal level of 3), or is it possible that I have a sexually transmitted infection, such as HSV-2, or is it possible that an undetected chlamydial infection could be causing this burning. I've never had any sort of "outbreaks.
Avatar n tn My GP who had run PSA tests yearly said this was a good idea because my PSA went from the same level for many years to spiking (Still not in a level that made anyone get too worked up but I've since learned that the velocity (Angle its at going up) is more important then a number. So I had them check for cancer. They found it.
Avatar n tn Propose that your partner try Avodart. I think it really helps with prostate enlargement. That is what the television commercials say anyhow. Unfortunately it also can cause a large reduction in semen production. AND women wanting to become pregnant should NEVER touch the pill as it can cause birth defects if they are exposed at all to it. You can Google Avodart read all of this yourself from a variety of sites, including Avodart's manufacturer.
Avatar m tn What is normal time to stay Avodart ? The doc give enough for 3 weeks but I would think I would need to stay on for longer than that. I have had no side effects as I know of and I believe it has helped. How long has others stayed on this ? Thanks for any help.
Avatar m tn I'm 68 years old and have had Cataracts for over 2 years. I've been taking Avodart for over a year. Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? I've never taken Flomax and have heard the warnings from the commercial and read about Flomax. I'm concerned about any complications. I'm also pretty active. Can I still swim after surgery and what are the chances of the lens shifting or coming loose?
Avatar m tn I am suffering from BPH for the last 4 years and I am taking DUTASTERIDE (AVODART) and Alfuzosin . Unfortunately , these meds do not help much since few months ago. I also about a new procedure named: gat-goren (GG), that sounds as non-pervasive. Did anyone hear about the GG procedure and can share experience or knowledge about that ?
Avatar m tn It depends on the test. Do you know if it is ELISA or Herpeselect?
Avatar m tn I say this because there are certain medications meant for men, like Avodart for enlarged prostate, that women are told not to even handle. They say so on the commercials for this medication. If women are told not to even handle Avodart, which would mean that it can be absorbed through the skin, I would think you may be right about the possibility of you absorbing the hormones from the IUD. But, I suspect some doctor may refute this, although I don't know why.
Avatar m tn Just a friendly question regarding this reply, if that's ok. If the anti-HSV meds work, does it mean that one has the virus? For example, undiagnosed pain diminishes when using Valtex = herpes?
Avatar n tn What is PSA density? For diagnosis, PSA+ free PSA is enough or cPSA+PSA is needed? Which one will be more accurate? Is Prostate enlargement mean DRE abnormal? Thank you in advance for your time and advise.
Avatar n tn Even a free PSA tested, but those PSA data seems untrusted? Then what will be free PSA data tested at the same lab being trusted?
Avatar n tn I read a lots about prostate and PSA test. As I can tell, as your age 63, PSA 1.84 (05/08) seems good (low). Your trend showed that 2006 to 2007 had a big step (0.7 to 1.79) because the velocity is 1.09, which >0.75/yr, but since that (03/08 will not count) is 1.84. I think it seems that your "new" level is about 1.8, but this new trend need to be proved - if you repeat it in a couple years, and it will stay in this level.
Avatar n tn I have been seeing my urologist every 6 months since the surgery and having PSA tests. the first 4 tests post surgery have all seen PSA levels of 0.01 or less. Today I had a 6 month follow up visit and my PSA has risen to 0.2. The Dr has suggested that we do a follow-up in 4 months to see if the PSA level goes back down or to start monitoring closer the rise in PSA level if it in fact is starting to rise. My question is How concerned should I be at this time?
