If I were your treating dentist, I would look for other potential source of infection. In the mean time, if augmentin and clindamycin are not effective, I would try erythromycin family drug, such as azithromycin or clarithromycin , paired with metronidazole(flagyl). If itis possible, antibiotic sensitivity test can be done in the lab to determine which antibiotic is most effective for the cultured bacteria. Hope this helps.
I've had a sinus infection for five days and have been on antibiotics (augmentin, or amoxicillin) for 2.5 days (5 doses) already and have seen no improvement. I am in so much pain and am worried about my unborn baby's health. Does anyone have experience with this? Shouldn't the antibiotics be working at least a little by now? I'm halfway through the prescription.
keep taking ur perscription but call ur OB, they may have u go in to get checked over. I had bad broncitis and my med wasnt working but my OB figured out I had a sinus infection on top of it & perscribed 2 additional meds. but I know for sure mucinex,sudefed, and robutussin are all okay to take. same for claritin (not sure of spelling) but id ask tge pharmasist about wether they're safe to mix with that antibiotic.
I have a sinus infection and was prescribed a Z pack and it didn't really help. I went back and got prescribed augmentin. I have been taking it for 3 days and now i have a pretty bad nasal drip going on in the back of my throat. I also have panic disorder and pretty much need to know that I am okay all the time. Is this normal? Is there a possibility of something awful happening from a nasal drip?
I forgot to mention now I am back on the meds... I am on augmentin and alegra... Augmentin for 14 days...
I just don't want to keep taking medication all the time...

I did have a bad cold but mostly I could not breath and severely stuffy and when I blowed it was green and bloody.. Then my throat became mildy sore...
NOW finally I can breath again..... Just back to that same old congestion....
It tastes bad,,,, it is just not fun to have..
She put me on Augmentin for 8 days for a sinus infection and said that she saw fluid behind my left eardrum. After the 8th day of pain, the augmentin did NOTHING and I went to the ER. The ER doctor was concerned about my family history and me being a smoker, and recommended a CAT scan and a spinal tap! I had both. I also insisted he do a full sinus scan. The CAT and Tap came back normal. My sinuses were a "little cloudy" on the left side.

I am desperately seeking answers to my 7 yr old son's problems. About 8 weeks ago, he started complaining of tummy ache after school. Within a couple of days, he also started having headaches always on his forehead. The ped. put him on Amoxycillin due to a possible sinus infection. He also had bloodwork done and his T4 and TSH came at borderline. He responded to the Amox. for a few days and the headaches returned.
Doctor prescribed Prednisone,Zithromax, Acyclovir [for cold sores] and Clindamycin cap 300 mg for sinus infection. Just lately I got acid reflux.... hard to swallow... even when I did it was bad... slight burning to severe burning feeling on the left hand side of my mid upper chest area. I went back again to see the doctor who told me the coughing, wheezing [which now both had stopped... nearly completely] from the sinus infection is proobably the causes of it. He now prescribed AdipHex....
I was wondering if anyone else has taken Augmentin. I was prescribed it for a double ear infection. Originally I was given acetic acid drops but they aren't working.
I plan on calling my OB in the morning to double check. They are pregnancy category B. Although they are thought to be safe not many studies have been done on them. I'm nervous about everything. This is my first pregnancy and I am only 18.

Chemotherapy, especially in the doses you had. But 10-15% are resistant. Augmentin xr has not been studied for its effect against pharyngeal gonorrhea, but in the doses used for strepStrep throat , it probably would cure it.
That definitely sounds like a fungal infection. I've had a sinus infection and ear infection for well over a month now. It was so bad that I was going to the doctor daily for IV antibiotics. I was sent to the ENT who suctioned my ear and found I had a fungal infection. My ear drum also had a small perforation which affected my hearing some. He had me continue with the antibiotics and gave me eardrops. The eardrops smelled like vinegar and burned.
The mucous is yellow and thick and no matter what I try, saline, nose drops, etc. it continues to fill up. I do not have any sinus pressure or pain, YET. Today I feel sicker, mild chills, and I have a mild sore throat.. I have Aumentin which was given to me "just in case." I hate to sign in for 10 days of antibiotics if it's still the same virus. To complicate matters, I am into the second day of a 5 day colon cleanse, and wonder I one would cancel out the other.
I just finished a round of Augmentin for a sinus infection! Which I'm sure is the culprit. Also I use softsoap body wash. My husband and I haven't had sex since before the symptoms started. Thanks for all the info guys!
I should add that I was prescribed Augmentin at the same time post operatively for a knee arthroscope and wondered whether this could interfere with the efficacy of the azithromycin?
My chest x ray is normal but the doctor could not do a pft because of my continuous cough at that time. My blood work for pneumonia diabetes and cholesterol are all good. sinus CT scan is normal too. Is this viral is it okay to take several months for cough to go away. I have no wheezing or asthma history. could this be lung infection? Please help.
