Avatar n tn Can you tell how to identify the chronic paronychia or chronic eczema on the finger? What topical medications are effective for the chronic paronychia and/or chronic eczema? Thank you for your answer.
Avatar n tn http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paronychia A paronychia presents with tenderness and may be due to a fungal infection or a bacterial infection. Prior to the nail problem, have you injured that part of the nail? In your case, you have mentioned tenderness over the base of your nail. This may be the case. An associated onychomycosis or fungal infection of the nail itself may be present causing the nail to dissociate from the nail bed. I suggest that you have this assessed by your dermatologist.

Avatar f tn The bump went way down and the color went to normal within about 3 days but a bump can still be felt below the area of where the cuticle meets the finger (nailbed?). Is it normal for the bump to take a while to go away? I only soaked it for the first 2 days.
Avatar f tn My GP said I have a paronychia. My finger has been sore now for 10+ weeks. I have been on two weeks of antibiotics (Flucoxacillin), have applied magnesium sulphate and have now been given crystacide (anti-fungal) to try. With the hydrogen peroxide my finger seems to have gotten worse. Should I continue with the anti-fungal cream? And what is likely to be the next step? My GP said he would ultrasound it. Is that feasible given there doesn't appear to be anything in it?
Avatar f tn My boyfriend got paronychia on his finger and monday he went to the dr and he was given keflex and creme to put on his finger and today he fingered me and he forgot he had that on his finger. do i need to be worried?
Avatar n tn Hi there - my son is 5 weeks old and since day 3, he's had a problem with his nails. It started on 1 thumb, where the side of the nail got red & swollen (a paronychia, I'm guessing from my research...), and that was followed by the skin on the tip of this thumb peeling. It almost looked like a bit of while glue had dried on his thumb.
Avatar n tn 1) As Ihave touched it with my finger and my feet is hurt and have paronychia, is it possible that i may be infected with virus of HIV, HCV, TB or syphilis? and how much is the possibility,if there is? 2) How long is the window phase for HIV, 84 days or 168 days? that is, how long can I can get definite answer to whether i get infected? because I want to have a baby in the near future.
Avatar m tn Hello, For loss of cuticles from the nails, fungal infection and bacterial infections of the nails which may cause paronychia should be ruled out. Paronychia results from a breakdown of the protective barrier between the nail and the nail fold. It is diagnosed by gram staining and KOH wet mounts from the skin and nail scrapings. So I suggest you to get the gram staining and KOH wet mounts done from a dermatologist.
Avatar m tn The tops of my index and pinky fingers on my right hand are swollen between the nail and first joint, and this appears to be spreading to the other fingers. They are red, very tender, and occasionally itch. I had this condition about a year ago, and it eventually spread to my left hand, then to several toes. I believe it lasted a month or so, and my doctor never determined a cause. I have also had Reynauds for about a decade, but the two conditions haven't occurred together.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone else has taken Augmentin. I was prescribed it for a double ear infection. Originally I was given acetic acid drops but they aren't working. I plan on calling my OB in the morning to double check. They are pregnancy category B. Although they are thought to be safe not many studies have been done on them. I'm nervous about everything. This is my first pregnancy and I am only 18. Thank you!!
Avatar m tn She has had IV antibiotics twice as well as antibiotic and antifungal pills, and it was non-responsive to the drugs. Tested negative for MRSA. Finger hurts and is pinkish-red. It is dry with no discharge.
250701 tn?1320974765 My lung Doctor called me in some augmentin because I have been coughing up thick yellow mucus. I just don't know if I can take it on treatment. Does anyone know??
Avatar n tn t yet developed the infection, as would be indicated by the presence of a lesion or a positive blood test, than it takes for curative treatment. The augmentin taken twice daily for two weeks would certainly cure and prevent development of syphilis. The combination of cefixime and azithromycin would most probably prevent infection but it would not be curative if the infection was established.
Avatar m tn I should add that I was prescribed Augmentin at the same time post operatively for a knee arthroscope and wondered whether this could interfere with the efficacy of the azithromycin?
Avatar n tn i've got numerous unprotected blowjobs over the last 8 yrs from a person other than my wife. now i have a finger infection, paronychia, that won't go away. concerned again about hiv.
Avatar n tn //www.medhelp.org/drugs/Augmentin/show/5288 It may be Augmentin or it may be something else. I think you should mention this to your doctor.
Avatar n tn My 6 year old daughter had an infection near her cuticle on her thumb which I believe was paronychia. The tested the pus and it was a strep a infection. She was prescribed amoxicillin for 10 days. Her thumb nail has separated from the cuticle area and now about half of the nail is missing and there is only nail bed. Nothing seems to be growing in at the cuticle and it has been a month since the infection.
Avatar f tn Although Augmentin kills certain types of bacteria and is used for lower respiratory, ear, urinary and sinus bacterial infections, does not necessarily mean it will get help a sore throat. To find out what type of bacteria is causing the sore throat and which antibiotic will kill that bacteria is to get a swab taken of your throat to identify the bacteria and then the correct antibiotic will be prescribed.
Avatar f tn 4 days on augmentin 825 for a chronic dental infection (now a bone infection), I started having major swelling in my hands. This is new, I've never had swelling like this. Yesterday my one hand looked freakishly red and swollen. It was so swollen, that when I straightened out my hand (which was difficult), everything turned white, inbetween the redness. Anyway, I tried going off the augmentin (I'm taking it in conjunction with clindamycin), and today I feel much less swollen.
Avatar n tn My boyfriend was prescribed 1 gram of Augmentin twice daily for 3 weeks for acute bacterial prostatitis. He hasn't actually received his urine test results yet though, so not sure what type of bacteria it actually is. Is this an appropriate treatment?
Avatar f tn If you have a viral tonsillitis, it will get better on its own in time (about the same time that was quoted for the Augmentin!). But you are also taking Augmentin. So, won't it be tempting to say that the Augmentin is what made you better? We'll never know. It's not necessarily a bad idea, taking both -- especially if they are truly unsure and they're trying to get you better as fast as possible.
Avatar f tn That stated, over the last 4 months, the tips of my fingers began to turn reddish and are now always that color along with swelling regardless for temperature. Recently, I was dx'd by a Dermatologist as having Paronychia. She placed me on an anit-fungal cream which landed no change. Then, she placed me on Theraprednisone or 6 days. Still unchanged, so she prescribed Flucanazole (150 mg) one day dose then repeat on day three. No change after all of these medications.
Avatar m tn Any possible thoughts on what I might be? I would really like to know.
