Common Questions and Answers about Asacol generic medication

asacol

Avatar n tn Is there a program where my son can get help with his Rx for asacol? He does not have insurance.
686769 tn?1236272131 t have insurance/$$ to cover the cost of medication, they allow you to get 270 days worth of free medication. it helped me out tremendously... i did it before and received asacol, not sure if asacol will even work for you, but i found it to be more effective than pentasa. also there's a generic available for steroid enemas (not proctor and gamble), i believe... still expensive but helps out.
Avatar m tn Hello all UC Patients, I was diagnosed with UC few years back and tried every medication (ASA, Rowasa Enema, Prednisone, Immuno-Suppresants, Remicade, VSL-3, etc). I have been hospitalized four times in last two years. Finally I met a doctor in UK who prescribed Asacol Foam Enema. I was unable to get into remission for last so many years with all drugs, however, with this foam enema, I got in full remission in just few weeks.
Avatar m tn Has anyone tried Lialda? Does it perform any better than Asacol? How much more is your co-pay for Lialda than Asacol. I want to ask my doc to make a switch.
Avatar m tn i was prescribed asacol 2x 400mg, 3 times a day for two weeks. after this time i was also diagnosed with CKD at stage 3a with a GFR of 53 and a creatinine clearance of 87.14ml/min. i took asacol again for one month at a reduced rate of 1x 400mg, 3 times a day (3-4 tablets recommended for prevention of relapse). then i stopped taking it for 2 months. i took asacol again at 1x400mg, 2 times a day for 2 months.
Avatar m tn I have a NEW G.I. doc who keeps referring me to a colonoscopy and an MRCP before she decides to do anything but I've had a flare-up of UC for a month and need some relief. Today I saw a whole Asacol HD tablet excreted and the G.I.doc said "that's ok--it's still absorbed." Ok--so now I must be reasonable and ask a question as how is it absorbed when NONE OF IT--repeat, NONE OF IT---is degraded at all? This woman doesn't get it. Anyway, what should I do now?
Avatar n tn I have noticed that my asacol is not breaking down and is being passed in my stool! Is their a reason for this? What can/should I do?
Avatar f tn My recent result of biopsy after the colonoscopy indicates epithelial dysplasia. My doctor just advice me to continue taking the mesalamine (Asacol) Do i need an another urgent medication/treatment for dysplasia? What should be my next move?
1134609 tn?1269272200 ----I stabilized completely last summer and I was on the brand name version of the medication. When I switched over to the generic, I started having problems and had to increased the dose from 900mgs to 1600mgs over the space of a few months. Any changes in the dosages over this time dropped me into a deep depression and I HAD to drop the dosage many times because it was agitating me. I just assumed it was because I was adjusting to the medication.
1115182 tn?1258760246 A close family member of mine has crohns disease, she is currently taking the medication methotrexate once weekly. Her doctor recently increased her dosage as her crohns moved from "mild" to "moderate to severe" over the past year and has entered into her small intestines now. Are there any newer/better working medications available at this time? Thanks!
Avatar n tn I started taking Asacol HD about one week ago. I noticed this morning that I had 3 whole pills in my stool. One pill looked like it was open on one side, but had something white still in it. Not sure about the others. Is this normal to see whole pills in stool, and to see three at one time?
Avatar f tn Neva, C. diff testing requires it be done in triplicate. It can be missed in a single sample. You may have to take probiotics for several weeks to note a difference. In addition, some probiotics work better than others for some individuals. You may want to consider trying a different brand if one doesn't seem to help. IBS is a 'generic' catch-all for 'this person has a GI problem, bowel issues, pain, and we don't have any test results that show anything.
1446077 tn?1284510191 I have never had the frequency of loose, mucus bowel movements decreased, no matter what medication I am on. I am currently in so much pain I can hardly stand it. I had a colonoscopy yesterday and it was "negative" for inflammation though my blood work showed that my inflammatory markers were high. My gastro is now saying I have IBS and there is nothing more he can do. I am taking Asacol 400 3/3x day and Levisin for pain.
1483944 tn?1288100910 i was diagnosed with Crohns in 2006 and on Prednisolone and Asacol then undiagnosed in 2008 and told I have IBS. I now take IBS medication but it is not working, i am in pain daily right side and have gastroentiritus issues alot as well as bowel issues, Is my doctor wrong? all my investigations are showing nothing,,,,,I am so confused! please help me!
Avatar f tn I had a colonoscopy done in Boston a month ago and learned that all the pain I have been having in my stomach (which they kept testing me for diviticilitis (sp?) for the last year was in fact Crohn's. I am learning as much as I can and am on antibiotics right now for another flare up. My doctor is going to put me on Azechol (not sure of the spelling) and he said it is a good medication. Is anyone else on this medication and have any side effects from it?
Avatar m tn Levothyroxine is the generic name; Synthroid is a brand name. Both contain the same medication (active ingredient), but can vary in the fillers (inactive ingredients).
1019152 tn?1336074292 Just to put me on medication when it wont even help. He put me on mesalamine 4gm/ml enema.and asacol hddr 800mg. Im alittle nervous about taking because of side effects. If these meds dont cure it whats the point of taking it?I dont want to be on meds my whole life.I haave a cardiologist appt. tomorrow to ask him if atenolol my be the cause.Im sure he wont know.Should i even bother going.Do you believe it may be the cause?
Avatar m tn The idea is to get off the steroids asap but make sure the bleeding is stopped. The other thing is to increase the Asacol right away to get the UC under control and adjust her dosage to manage it. If she is still having trouble then she needs to treat it from both ends, so get her GI to prescribe an enema nightly with her regular Asacol orally but it's very important to get her off the prednezone. It's bad taking it continuously.
89592 tn?1391274422 my gastro prescribed asacol...800 mg 2 tabs twice daily. I looked at the drug pamphlet and I see that it can affect liver enzymes. I dont need that since I already have mildly abnormal values. I called my gastro to tell him my concern and he said it would not hurt me. I am supposed to be on them indefinitely. I also take 5 mg prednisone for my r/a. Just wondering how this will affect the liver. I know I am not on the higher side of the doses given but still...
Avatar f tn it has been 5 days now and my usual methods of 12 asacol and 2 rowasa have not helped at all. The GI took stool cultures to make sure that there is not infection. We have not gotten results yet. I am so discouraged and feel like throwing in the towel. I am so sick from the flare these drugs caused. I only have 4 rounds-3 more left but I don't know how I'm going to do it if this flare doesn't get back in control.
Avatar n tn I'm 23 years old, ftm with 19 weeks. I have a generic counseling appoiment today. What to expect? Does all the mommies to be get this counseling?
519725 tn?1211997846 ve been taking Levothyroxine Sodium (generic) .088mg daily for several years. My health insurance has suggested I try a less costly med. In the past, I've tried switching to Synthroid (generic) but after a day or two, I experience muddied and disoriented thinking. I went back to levothyroxine and those symptoms went away. Now, my health insurance suggests I try "Unithroid" (generic) which is also less costly. Should I consider this?
Avatar n tn I am told this is an excellent medication and typically very well tolerated. I tried Toprol XL before for several months. Did not tolerate it well, mainly due to severe nightmares. Once removed from the Toprol, nightmares stopped. Is this a different class of beta blocker that is safer and what (if anything) should I be concerned about? Meds are aspirin (81), protonix (40), HCTZ (25), Lisinopril (10-20) sertraline (50) and now the 6.25 carvedilol.
Avatar n tn At the time, my doctor informed not to take the generic form of Synthroid. I recently switched pharmacists who prescribed a generic form, Levothyroxine. After a few days of taking the medication, I noticed I had become extremely fatigued all day long and have also recently noticed irritability. Could these symptoms be caused by taking the generic form of the medication?
Avatar f tn He was switched from Asacol to Pentasa when his liver enzymes were slightly elevated. He was on a steroid for the first 2 years after he was diagnosed. He hasn't been on a steroid since 2006, when he was diagnosed with Diabetes. The Steroids are more for the flares, the Pentasa is used more as a maintenance drug. He is also on Purinethol, which is chemotherapy agent, to help decrease abnormal growths. Good luck.
Avatar f tn m not sure if Armour would be covered by Medicaid or not, because Medicaid typically only covers generics (without a medically sound reason for brand name) and there is no generic Armour. Your co-pay will depend on the insurance you have. I'm on Tirosint and my co-pay is about $54/mo; my co-pay for generic T3 med is about $9 for 90 days, but I have pretty fair insurance. Not getting the treatment you need is always a chance you take whenever changing doctors.
