My husband has been taking 10mg of Aricept for 2 years now and I have not noticed any significant difference in his memory. Actually, my observation is his memory is becoming worse. I'm struggling with whether I should discontinue the medication since I don't see improvement and because it is quite costly. I also know Aricept is designed to slow down the dementia so if I discontinue it I'm wondering if he will become worse much faster.

If a person has not been diagnosed with alzheimers but is taking aricept, is it okay? will it hurt to be taking it?
t know anything about that - all I know is that before Aricept, I was in a gray mist, and after five months of Aricept, everything seemed to make more sense. Before Aricept, it was as if I had low water pressure - I just couldn't get enough juice in my brain to put thoughts together. On Aricept, suddenly my brain could make connections.
The only trippy thing I noticed was an almost hi-def moire behind my eyeballs when I went to sleep.
I was diagnosed over 2 years ago but never got around to going to the Chiari Institute in NY as suggested by my geneticist, mostly because I also have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and know so, so many people who have had the decompression surgery and nearly all failed. So they say, it's due to also having EDS.
I am not being treated with steroids, and do daily injections of Copaxone. Are these mood swings and memory issues somehow related or located in the same area of the brain? Would taking Namenda and Aricept together help? Is there any type of anti-depression/anti-anxiety medication that has been found to work better in patients with MS? I have been on Zoloft, Effexor, and Cymbalta, at the highest recommended doses and none of them seem to help after about 10 weeks. Thank you for your time.
Can I add that there are memory training games/tools on line as well and these have been shown to help. I have a membership with lumosity.com - they offer free access for the basic activities.
Don't just resign yourself to losing it, try some of these activites or talk to your doctor about being referred for therapy, I did that last spring and found it very useful. We talked through memory strategies and how to strengthen skills.
My mother is very tired, often confused and has a shocking memory. She also gets up at night and looks for things or wanders around. The consultant has prescribed risperidone, although we were hoping for Aricept. I am very concerned about this as internet research suggests it is for aggressive behaviour and will result in oversedation even drooling. I don't want my mum to be a zombie - I'd just like her to be more like her old self.
I would like to know if anyone knows of someone who had gotten their short term memory back after having a brain tumor removed? My husband had a very large Pineal Meningioma Tumor removed 1-7-11. He has no short term memory. I believe in miracles but medically I feel/know his memory won't every come back. This is a rare situation as Pineal Meningioma Tumors are rare. The tumor was right in the middle of his head above the brain stem. He also had to have a VP shunt.
My husband has dementia. He takes the Bupropion in the morning along with his Aricept and Exforge (for blood pressure). He gets drowsy right after taking his pills and I think it may be the Bupropion HSL SR causing this. His neurologist told him the anti-depressant would probably make him "a little more fuzzy in his thinking". My husband is usually at his best in the morning as far as clear thinking goes.
