Appendicitis treatment in children

Common Questions and Answers about Appendicitis treatment in children

appendicitis

Avatar n tn You have mentioned that you were diagnosed with appendicitis. Was an appendectomy done? In this case I would suggest that an abdominal ultrasound may be done to ascertain the cause of the pain. A baseline urinalyis and urine culture may also be helpful to determine if infections or urinary tract stones may be present. I do not think the fungal infection has been causing the pain. Unless the area is swollen and severely infected the tenderness may be noted when the skin is palpated.
Avatar f tn Hi. I am a 35 year old female, no children. Last night I woke up with a sharp pain to the right of my belly button which went away after an hour. It came on today even more severe after urinating and got so bad I had to lay down. Coughing or any stomach muscle movement was terrible and it had spread to behind and under my belly button. This time it lasted almost two hours but was much worse than last night. I almost went to the emergency room but now it has subsided.
Avatar f tn thank you for your reply iv read a report in BMJ saying an unusual cause of this as appendicitis would this have shown up in the ultra sound scans or is a CT scan the only way to see this
Avatar m tn t necessarily rule out appendix issues either - The symptoms of appendicitis can vary. It can be hard to diagnose appendicitis in young children, the elderly, and women of childbearing age. The first symptom is often pain around your belly button. (See: Abdominal pain) The pain may be minor at first, but it becomes more sharp and severe. Your appetite will be reduced and you may have nausea, vomiting, and a low fever.
Avatar n tn Benign dermoid ovarian cysts uncommonly cause symptoms in young girls. It is estimated that they constitute 0.35% of all tumors occurring in children of both sexes less than 15 years of age. Symptoms produced by the cysts may mimic other intra-abdominal disease, and in three of the four cases reported in this series the girls were initially considered to have either acute appendicitis or infection of the urinary tract. All three had a pelvic mass palpable per rectum.
Avatar n tn For three or more months I have had intermittent sharp pain in my right groin, right where my femoral pulse can be felt. It occasionally wakes me up at night. Lately, I've begun having random, sharp pains in both my lower extremities. It's not muscular. I've had no injuries. Suggestions?
Avatar f tn Medical Care * Daily cleaning, without forceful retraction of the foreskin, is the only treatment necessary for phimosis in patients without urinary obstruction, hematuria, or preputial pain. * * Treatment with topical corticosteroids is effective in separating the loose adhesions found between the glans and the foreskin. * * In 2001, French researchers Berdeau et al used data from form published reports and from claims by private hospitals for children <13 years.
Avatar f tn Poor personal hygiene, caries and repeatedly putting fingers in the mouth should be looked into in a kid. There are a few possibilities that you must look into—diabetes, hypothyroidism, Vitamin B or C deficiency and anemia. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult your grand daughter’s doctor. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
5670884 tn?1374749288 My sister had appendicitis when she was pregnant. If the pain doesn't go away after a while, look up the symptoms of appendicitis and see if that sounds possible, and if so go to the doc.
Avatar f tn With treatment bacterial is cured in 1-2 weeks..viral will last longer. There are vaccines now .The type of anti biotic depends on the type of pneumonia she has , as she has only taken the meds for a few days I would continue as prescribed but if indeed she seems worse and her temperature climbs it may be aswell to have her checked out again ..
454366 tn?1211245301 Monitoring the dosage is critical to proper lithium treatment. I have been on 300mg in the a.m., and 600mg in the p.m. and my liver and thyroid are both fine. I also take (in treatment of bipolar mania) 60mg Geodon 2x's daily, 1mg Ativan 3X a day, and .25mg Xanax 3X daily (as needed). Since I increased my Geodon to twice daily, I feel like a new person. The lithium is the most benign of my drugs. It's the Geodon I hate.
Avatar f tn I looked up treatment of children after the above post. It appears that there are centers that specialize in treatment of children with liver disease. It isn't recommended that children under 3. Triple treatment isn't approved for treatment in children. The current treatment approved for children is Peg and ribavirin. There is lots to consider before treating someone so young. I personally would not unless it was life threatening. Remember people can live with hepatitis C.
Avatar n tn Secondly, it can be due to hiatus hernia (occurs when the upper part of your stomach protrudes into your chest cavity through a weakness in the hiatus (opening) in your diaphragm.)Treatment is antacids and prilosec. Also eat smaller meals, especially at night. Don't lie down right after you eat. Use 2 or 3 pillows, or a foam wedge, or raise the head of your bed to prevent discomfort.. Thirdly it can be gall stones or pancreatitis.
Avatar m tn m a 19 year male college student, and I have had this problem for several years. At random moments, usually pretty rarely, I will get a sudden, sharp pain in the lower right area of my abdomen. It will cause me to panic for the brief second that it lasts (i'll clutch it etc..), because it feels really severe. It always goes away though, and since it's been a problem I've had for a long time, I don't really think it's a big issue.
Avatar n tn To diagnose the underlying cause and origin of vertigo in children, an MRI or CT scan of the brain and skull are usually recommended. In addition, your child also undergo a complete physical and examination by a physician with special focus on a test known as the Dix-Hallpike maneuver which will help to narrow the complication into either nerve damage or brainstem involvement.
Avatar n tn I have copied this out for you, it happens quite frequently While there are uncommon serious causes of passing out in children, the majority of fainting episodes are brought about by reasons that are neither serious nor life-threatening. The most common reason for fainting in children is called vasovagal syncope [VAY-so-VAY-gull SEENK-oh-pee). Vasovagal syncope is an abnormal reaction of the nerves to otherwise normal circumstances. These nerves dictate the heart rate and blood pressure.
Avatar m tn I know you will say I need checked out and I agree in my brain, but the other part of my brain wants to know if these long pain free periods over the course of 3 or so months without a perforation are typical of appendicitis issues? So, in summary, I am curious about the long course of this and the pain free periods. Thank you.
Avatar n tn When I had appendecitis I woke up in pain with a lot of abdominal pressure and was admitted for surgery that day. It felt like I was really constipated or something (sorry TMI), and was nauseous. It sounds like the pain you are having is more likely related to the pcos. I have had ovarian cysts in the past and it felt a lot like what you are describing. I'm not an expert, just my personal experience.
Avatar n tn s, it might be worth checking out. Normally, the muscles in the wall of the stomach contract in a coordinated way to move food through the stomach into the small intestine. The autonomic nervous system controls this muscular action. Diabetes can damage the autonomic nerves. This is called diabetic autonomic neuropathy. As a result, the stomach loses it's coordinated muscular activity and doesn't empty the stomach properly.
Avatar n tn Mesenteric Lymphadenopathy This is a very common cause of right side abdominal pain in children. It presents as pain in the right lower abdomen. Typically, the child would have had cold or sore throat in the preceding days up to two weeks. The neck glands would be enlarged. This is often confused with appendictis. The difference been that the child would still retain his or her appetite.
Avatar f tn I'm not really sure if I'm in the right place her but I'm becoming concerned. Last night I started having a dull pain on the right side of my abdomen, across from my belly button, it went away today but came back around lunch time. It went away again and now at 2am it has come back. I pressed on my stomach a bit and it send a shooting pain through my belly button area. Its not SUPER painful, just more of a discomfort.
