Common Questions and Answers about Appendicitis pain diagnosis

appendicitis

Avatar f tn My sister told me if i had appendicitis, my pain would be getting worse cuz my aPpendix pain has been going for like 2 months now but only once the pain was severe and that was in the morning.
Avatar m tn Having been an EMT for many years I understand this could be appendicitis, however, I am confused about the pain free lapses. I live in the middle of no where with poor hospitals about 2 and a half hours away. I am hesitant to spend 5 hours in an ER and then having no pain when I am finally seen. Does it make sense to have classic appendicitis symptoms that go completely away for a few days at a time over a 3 month course?
Avatar f tn Appendicitis is not always easy to diagnose. Describe how the symptoms came on. When my ex got sick one day while I was at work, he called me. He described abdominal pain that sounded like it could be gas or early appendicitis. I told him to take Gas-Ex and lie down. When I got home, he still had the pain, even lying down. I pressed on his abdomen and he had more pain. Didn't really know what I was doing, but just gently pressed around and he moaned.
Avatar m tn Multiple visits to cardio no specific diagnosis other than GERD. Taking PPI for 2 years. Six months back I got pain at Right Lower Abdomen (RIF). The local GP thought Sub acute appendicitis and prescribed antibiotics. My WBC at that time was normal. The pain was intermittent, some times sharp and mild. I never took the antibiotics. The next day the local GP said no appendicitis.
Avatar n tn I have a throbbing pain that comes and goes on my right side at the waistline. It just started about an hour ago but since it's quite sharp and I've never had it before, it's a little alarming. I'm thinking appendicitis, but I may be jumping to conclusions.
Avatar m tn About five months ago, I had lower right side pain that lasted a couple days, and after several tests (including CT), the doctor said all I had were swollen lymph nodes and after a series of antibiotics, I was fine (no appendicitis). Well, the pain is sort of back and it has been for a couple of days. The pain is not constant nor severe. It really is kind of a pressure-type pain for a couple of seconds and then dissipates.
Avatar n tn Also the pains in my abdomen seem to get worse when i eat or after a night out drinking. Then the pain gets very sharp and spreads to the left side and lower left of the back, i get hit by a sudden feeling of weakness and have to lie down. What are the possible causes of this pain, and could it be linked to my other symptoms? p.s. i am fully aware that this is not a diagnosis, it is just to know wether or not i should get this checked by my GP. p.p.
Avatar n tn There are various causes of right lower quadrant abdominal pain, including but not limited to appendicitis, IBS/IBD, kidney/ureteral stone, bladder infection, and hernia, as well as female-specific conditions, such as pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, ovarian cyst, ovarian torsion, and ectopic pregnancy. Making the correct diagnosis requires a combination of clinical history and physical examination, as well as laboratory and imaging tests.
Avatar n tn I have recently been experiencing right side pain and mentioned it to my GP. He sent me for a CT which confirmed mild appendicitis. Don't have typical appendicitis symptoms other than pain and some nausea. My doc says to get it taken out. I went for a consult with a general surgeon and he said he isn't 100% that's my appendix since I don't have all the acute symptoms. He said there is no such thing as chronic appendicitis and my doc says "oh yes there is". UGH...
4512492 tn?1355709724 Was also running a low grade fever yesterday, it was 99.
Avatar m tn 4. Appendicitis goes with nausea, vomiting and raised leukocytes in the blood. Appendicitis is painfull at any time you press on area. Bouncing sign is present: lye down on the back and press deeply sopmewhere on your lower LEFT abdomen, then release the pressure quickly. In peritonitis or appendicitis you should feel a sharp pain on the LRQ area. Peritonitis would also show marked inflammation in the blood.
Avatar n tn It has been four days, the aching has ceased a bit, the fever comes and goes. But what really has me worried is this unusual very intense pain in my lower back towards the right side extending to my hip and surrounding areas. Could it be kidney problems?
1699550 tn?1320286617 Hello, The cause of pelvic pain could be due to kidney stones, pelvic infections, urine infections, twisted ovarian cyst or rupture of ovarian cyst, appendicitis or any other referred pain due to other organ infections. It is advisable for you to immediately see a gynecologist, for an accurate diagnosis as your further treatment depends on the diagnosis.
Avatar f tn when the pain became too severe and went to the ER for assistance. He was given an antispasmodic and pain medication. It was not appendicitis, of course. The pain continued. Fecal sample was negative for parasites. His doctor took urine, blood, and had a CT scan performed yesterday. The WBC was "slightly elevated", as it was a year ago, and lymph nodes in his abdomen were slightly enlarged. His abdomen was tender to pressure in one location yesterday.
Avatar m tn Hello, My case can look rather particular in fact it is the second time in ten years that I have to undergo surgery due to ovarian cysts ruptures on my right ovary and every time the doctors in ER first think of an acute appendicitis which make them run a quantity of useless tests while I am in pain and makes me even more doubtful and worried.
Avatar m tn Hello, Causes of such pain could be due to kidney stones, pelvic infections, urine infections, twisted ovarian cyst or rupture of ovarian cyst, appendicitis or any other referred pain due to other organ infections. Get it evaluated and an ultrasound done from a gynecologist to confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar f tn Secondly, if you are having irregular bowel movements of constipation and diarrhea along with the pain, possibility of irritable bowel syndrome is also there. Diagnosis is made on basis of clinical evaluation. Thirdly, appendicitis has to be ruled out. This possibility is rare as pain of appendicitis is severe and is associated with vomitings and fever. Fourthly, Crohn’s disease can be the cause of this pain.
Avatar f tn I have sharp abdominal pain to the right of my abdomen about 3 fingers width. It has been there for months and I mainly feel it upon touch. Lately I've felt bloated. I saw an obgyn and ovaries and uterus have been ruled out. My pcp wants to send me for a CT scan of the abdomen. Is she thinkining hiatal hernia possibly caught early?? I am thin, don't always eat the best, not pregnant (my son is 8) . She says its in the area of the ileocecal valve.
Avatar m tn He felt around for my hernia, took note of my symptoms, and said that my hernia was basically healed and that he thought that I could have appendicitis. This came as a surprise. He said that if the pain got any worse within the next day or two, or if the pain didn't go away at all, then we should go into the ER. The pain got slightly worse and a lot more frequent within the next 2 days so we decided not to risk it and go into the ER.
Avatar f tn HI, Right lower quadrant pain can be due to ovarian cyst or appendicitis. The intermittent nature of the pain is typical of appendicitis. However it can also be found when the ovarian cyst undergoes torsion. The fever suggests the possibility of infection. Hence it would be best to see your Doctor again. Once a correct diagnosis is made the appropriate treatment can be initiated. The answer is based on information provided.
458511 tn?1206465658 I appreciate the advice. They thought it was appendicitis because the pain was on my right side on the same level as the top of my hipbone. The cyst is actually on my left ovary though. Don't know anything to explain the mirror pain, and they had nothing to explain why the pain was on that side other than a possible gall stone (found out I had those too the same night...was a great night).
Avatar f tn Don't want to scare you but my sister had appendicitis, the pain started off as random sperts but suddenly got worse as the appendix started to split, she was rushed into hospital and they performed an emergancy opp. Some cases heal themselves, others don't like my sister's. I would ask another doctor; if they send you home again, just watch for ANY changes and monitor your temperature, urine colour and strength of pain over the next 2-3 days.
Avatar n tn When I had appendecitis I woke up in pain with a lot of abdominal pressure and was admitted for surgery that day. It felt like I was really constipated or something (sorry TMI), and was nauseous. It sounds like the pain you are having is more likely related to the pcos. I have had ovarian cysts in the past and it felt a lot like what you are describing. I'm not an expert, just my personal experience.
Avatar m tn Hello, From your symptoms, this pain could be due to kidney stones, pelvic infections, urine infections, endometriosis, twisted ovarian cyst or rupture of ovarian cyst, appendicitis or any other referred pain due to other organ infections. I suggest you to get it examined and get an ultrasound done to confirm the diagnosis.
