Common Questions and Answers about Appendicitis and bowel sounds

appendicitis

Avatar f tn Welcome to the gastroenterology community! This really doesn't sounds like an appendicitis. It sounds like you are having some constipation which can be caused by reduced exercise from straining your muscles. I would recommend increasing your fiber intake, your intake of fruits and vegetables, and your intake of water.
Avatar n tn When you have pain like that, you have to get to the ER. Are you more terrified of a burst appendix than a hospital? You probably should be because one is there to help you and the other can have serious consequences. Bite the bullet and get to the ER to be checked out. They will take an x ray.
4512492 tn?1355709724 My 8 year old daughter had blood on the toliet paper after she had a bowel movement earlier. She also has a bulge in her stomach around her belly button and is having some lower abdominal pain. Could she have an appendicitis?
Avatar f tn Are Bowel sounds normal? Sometimes after I eat I get bowel sounds. I am taking a medication called Lialda and I wonder if that could be the cause of the sounds.
Avatar m tn 4. Appendicitis goes with nausea, vomiting and raised leukocytes in the blood. Appendicitis is painfull at any time you press on area. Bouncing sign is present: lye down on the back and press deeply sopmewhere on your lower LEFT abdomen, then release the pressure quickly. In peritonitis or appendicitis you should feel a sharp pain on the LRQ area. Peritonitis would also show marked inflammation in the blood.
1003498 tn?1263919526 at first i though that it was my birth control because my periods have been all out of whack, but as of the past few days it has been strictly related to gas and bowel movements. i have pain 24/7, but i get really bad sharp pains right before a bowel movement or passing gas. i can't sit, laugh, cough, stand, bend over, or anything without it hurting. i get no relief from heating pads. my bowel movements are pretty normal which leads me to believe that i am not constipated...
Avatar n tn It would be easy for her to become dehydrated with the constant vomiting, is she having bowel movements, and what type?
Avatar m tn Perhaps the most facinating part of this episode is that it was one year ago that I suffered what was then diagnosed by experienced medical personnel as probable appendicitis. It also occurred at the end of a long and stressful motorhome trip from western New York to the Florida Key and was treated (at my insistence) with massive anitbiotice and no surgery. The only difference was that last year the pain and inflammation was 10 times greater, with constipation and no appetite whatsoever.
Avatar m tn His bowels did not work so they operated again and said he had a twisted bowel that they massaged. Now one year later these past two weeks he has been constipated and then had stomach pain nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Today he feels lots better but it worries me that now that his stomach is empty and he starts slowly introducing food he will just get sick again. Maybe he will always have troubles.
Avatar m tn One thing that I will like to say is that sometimes diagnosis of appendicitis is tough because of the position of the appendix and other conditions which may mimic appendicitis like Meckel’s diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease and kidney diseases. Moreover, other conditions which I have mentioned like irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease(Crohn’s disease) and kidney diseases also have to be excluded.
Avatar n tn Others are irritable bowel syndrome(irregular bowel movements of constipation and diarrhea along with the pain and nausea are there), Crohn's disease(Crohn's disease most commonly affects the last part of the small intestine, usually located in the right lower abdomen) ,kidney infections, intestinal obstruction, mesenteric occlusion or enteritis. Without examaintion and investigations like an ultrasound and CT scan abdomen, diagnosis is tough.
Avatar n tn Gyno said she did not feel anything on my ovary, thought it might be an UTI. Seeing a urologist and so far sounds as if this is not the case. Urine coming back negative for bacteria. These pains come and go without any reason. Its not always there. But I read a story of a lady who's first sign of colon cancer was sciatic pain. My bowel movements seem pretty normal. Any loose stool or constipation resolves itself in a day. I do have hemorrhoids from giving birth to my kids.
Avatar f tn The next day it was the same in the morning but I kind of massaged my stomach a bit and began to pass gas. I also had two bowel movements afterward, both pencil thin. As well as one this morning that was mushy and broke off. I also have this pain right beside my belly button, like lower right hand side. It doesn't hurt all the time but if I touch it, it's tender. Can someone please help me?
1193880 tn?1264886865 Pain around umbilicus or belly button could be cystitis, urinary tract infection, diverticulitis or inflammatory bowel disease. Early appendicitis too behaves this way. It could also be food intolerance. Please consult a pediatrician immediately. Waiting too long may not be good. The reports would have come by now and will give some indication. An abdominal ultrasound should be done. Take care!
6785011 tn?1384780177 The other causes for pain could be urinary tract infections, pelvic infections, renal colic and sometimes bowel infections. So, please consult your primary care physician and if you cannot reach him soon enough and if the pain is severe go to the concerned hospitals emergency. And don't worry about the spell check. Take care.
Avatar f tn ve searched for my simptoms online. This way I found out about stump appendicitis and I got mortified it could be that. Could the CT scan have missed it? All the other organs seemed fine. Last year, I didn't develop fever or vomiting with my appendicitis, reason why it was hard to diagnose, especially because it was behind my ceccum (for 1 month doctors suspected ovary pain...until my appendix burst). Can this time be stump appendicitis and doctors mistake it for cysts again??
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with diverticulitis and put on flaxyl and cipro. 2 weeks later I had diarrhea-woke me up at night and went 14-20 times a day for over a week. Had general fatigue and chills/aches at night. Had coloscopy in August-showed some mild inflammation in ilieum and rectal area-was put on Asacol. Asacol helped the rectal pain but RLQ pain continued. Went back to ED in Nov for severe RLQ pain. CT and bloodwork normal.
Avatar f tn Could adhesions cause temporary impingement on the bowel causing severe pain and constipation that spontaneously goes away in 1-2 days? Previous surgeries include hysterectomy and abdominal radiation for uterine cancer 40+ years ago, gallbladder surgery 30+ years ago and colon resection for cancer 10 years ago.
Avatar m tn He then took a screening CT in the lab and gave the report as Chronic appendicitis with 7mm thickness. Ficolith inside the appendicitis and advised to remove it whenever you feel free but not an emergency. The Gastroenterologist was not convinced and he asked me to take a Contrast enhanced CT. But the local doctor said it is not necessary and i don't have any acute episode and there is no such Chronic appendicitis.
Avatar f tn However, a couple of hours before I eat and even a couple of hours after the pain becomes more intense. My bowel movements have not changed much. Sometimes I do have diarrhea and I go everyday but I am always seeing blood in the stool. I have no fever or anything like that, nor am I having the typical rebound pain or any pain in my right lower stomach. It seems that the pain moves when I change position if that makes sense.
Avatar m tn If you are 18 year old male it sounds to me like you have appendicitis, Go to a surgeon tell him you are having problems passing gas and constipation and diarrhea and he will order a laporscopy but tell him to take it out no matter what. I had mine out last week and it I feel remarkably better, and I want to explain to people that the appendix has strange symptoms and will cause real damage if you don't get it removed. Remember contact a SURGEON in your area not a Gastro specialist.
Avatar n tn t getting severely worse, there are no other symptoms, and an appendicitis would show on a CT scan (not like black blobs).
Avatar f tn I went to the ER and was told that i had a ruptured ovarian cyst that was bleeding, and that i also had a large amount of fluid and blood in my ovary and that I have another cyst. I am supposed to be meting with my gynecologist here in a few days to figure out what needs to be done, but my mom thinks that they are going to want to do surgery on me.
Avatar m tn For the past few days I've had pain right above my hip but its not severe and i don't have any other symptoms but I'm very scared right now because i think i have appendicitis i don't want surgery...my mom who is a nurse said that it cannot be that because the pain i describe isn't severe and that i should lay off the coffee that i drink.
5154898 tn?1374773319 OK, I've been worried sick since about 4 days ago. It all started when i had a muscle spasm beside my belly button (right side), it lasted a whole day. I woke up the next day with a dull pain in the same spot, nothing really painful, just enough to worry me. Now, my lower front (right side), my right side and back on the right side has been aching.
