My daughter is suffering from eczema from the time she was 2 months old. Her Ped prescribed antihistamine for itching. We are concerned about the side effects.
She does not have any immune system related issues.
Her itching increases during the night time and it has been severe since the past 2-3 weeks. Only now we started giving her antihistamine and are concerned about the side effects.
Is there any other way to stop her itching.
For such itching oral antihistamine, such as Benadryl or Claritin can be used. If the symptoms persist then get an evaluation done from a dermatologist as topical and oral steroids may be needed after confirming the diagnosis.

Hi, my dermatologist has prescribed me a antihistamine for my itching and wants me to use it for 4-6 weeks. The med is called hydroxzine. I am concerned because i never heard of anyone using antihistamine for that long. Will this severly affect my liver? Please help!
You may have "physical" or Cholinergic urticaria". Any rash (hives) appear together with itching? Next time when itching start take an antihistamine pill (like Benadryl). If this will help you, it means you have physical urticaria (allergy to heat in your case).

You have a type of urticaria.Would like to know cold or hot water precipitates?Cyproheptidine a antihistamine does great good but can sedate you,and give you good appetite too.Do consult your doc.As of now try oatmeal bath or soap containing oatmeal.

I have been experiencing an itching problem since last few months. Most of the time it happens in evening time on my upper part of body, like on back, stomach area, chest but more on my back close to neck area. It occurs for 5 to 10 min but very intensive. And after itching over their leaves red bums for a while. Its happens only for few minutes after then nothing. Due this problem i'm having an black sptted skin on my back close to neck area. Get yourself a prescription for Hydroxyzine. Hydroxyzine is used to treat itching caused by allergies. It is an antihistamine and works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction. The key is when you go cold turkey let the itch get to the point that you can't actually stand it anymore like a few hours after the itching starts, its hard but stretch it out. Take the Hydroxyzine and jump in a hot shower your itch will stop.

This should go away. You could always try an antihistamine like Benedryl which may stop itching too. Try a little ice pack on it? Not too comfortable but might distract from itching. You don't have an allergy, correct? This is just an itching problem?
You could take some oral antihistamine or antiallergic medications like loratadine or cetrizine and see if it helps with your symptoms. Apply calamine lotion at the site of the lesions to help soothe the itching.
