In approx 10% of dogs, any antihistamine can unexpectedly cause excessive sleepiness, or paradoxical excitment, and if these symptoms occur, then the antihistamine is discontinued. Perhaps this happened to one of the prior rescue dogs when given benadryl.

Since then I have avoided taking any antihistmaines except for Benadryl. I did take an occasional Claritin but it seems like every time I did anything I break out more. My allergist told me to try Claritin tabs instead of gel caps but I took one after having my allergy shot and I broke out in hives again. Now all the pollen is out and my eyes are really itchy and red and I have a hard time seeing at work. I tried taking Atarax last night to see if that would help more than Benadryl.

Some types of dog mites can be transmitted to humans. If present in your dogs, have them seen by veterinarian for treatment. In your case, cold packs and antihistamine medication may help with the itching especially when taken at night. Try to avoid scratching to prevent secondary infection. Regarding the different names that a drug may be known as, there are generally only two -- the generic name and the trade name. Some compounds, if they are not patented, will only have a generic name.
What I think she needs is LASIX (For the fluid retention). Normally for heart failure, Lasix are prescribed along with the heart meds. and can be given 1-3 times a day depending on the severity of the congestion. Once, the fluid is off her lungs, the cough and congestion will improve greatly. I'm surprised that this has not already been prescribed! Please, call or go see your Vet (Quickly) and discuss this. I have seen a new allergy doctor recently. 48 hours ago, I went for a visit for allergy skin testing. They performed the skin ***** test on my forearms then proceeded to do intradermal skin testing. I was allergic to all intradermal tests except dogs. This is not the first time I've had skin testing done so this was what I expected. I have attempted to google delayed reactions and intradermal skin test but not results.

Do not mix antihistamines though such as an oral antihistamine and spray. Ocean Spray does not have an antihistamine and will simply dry you out and is safe to use with an antihistamine.
Hi, my dermatologist has prescribed me a antihistamine for my itching and wants me to use it for 4-6 weeks. The med is called hydroxzine. I am concerned because i never heard of anyone using antihistamine for that long. Will this severly affect my liver? Please help!
5HTP or SAMe are naturopath alternatives to the prescribed anti-depressants. If you are looking at taking these you should still be monitored by a Naturopath Dr. There are differences between the two and someone in that field would be the best person to assess which one would be right for your symptoms. I'm not sure if there would be any contradictions with 5HTP and diazepam as you shouldn't take 5HTP if you are already on an anti-depressant.
