Avatar m tn a truly positive lab test for chlamydia. If so, was it a culure test? If not culture, tell me the exact brand name of each test done. What specimens were tested -- urine or urethral swab? (If it was blood, we already have the answer. All chlamydia blood tests are worthless and the results can be ignored.) As for a "permanent" problem, don't worry. There is no such thing as untreatable, permanent chlamydia.
Avatar f tn Here in the us they do iv antibiotics (which can kead to antibiotic resistance in the newborn but different soap box for another day!) Well upon read in it states if you do a hibiclens of your vagina/rectum 6 hours before your gbs test it will cure gbs colonization if you have it thus giving you a gbs neg test! Have you ladies heard of this?
Avatar m tn In that case your chances of catching anything are slim, furthermore taking antiobiotics for absolutely no reason can increase your resistance to antibiotics. So when/if you REALLY need to take them one day they might not work.
Avatar n tn How long it takes to treat Chlamydia and Gonorrhea with antibiotics.
640719 tn?1277140030 I'm getting a bit scared lately... I have been battling a recent UTI. I used to get them a lot when I was younger but haven't had one in about 2- 3 years. Anyway, took levaquin 500mg for about a week and felt much better then 4 days later it hit again. Did the AZO testing which tested positive for nitrate so went back on Levaquin and after two days of taking it I wasn't getting much relief so I went to my doctor.
Avatar f tn antibiotic resistance is very real and very dangerous. I'm a fan of not taking any antibiotics without a confirmed infection. I see every single day the effects of multiple drug resistant infections in people and it's not worth taking an antibiotic just in case.
Avatar m tn 47 y/o male here... thinking of ordering antibiotics online for the purpose of preventing the spread of any bacterial infection I might acquire from receiving oral sex. Cipro (500mg, single dose immediately after the "event") and Zithromax are my first considerations, but I'm having trouble finding "Z" in a single 1g (single dose treatment)... only 500mg 1. Is antibiotic use, as a preventative measure, effective? 2.
Avatar n tn A week later my treatment my urethra starting burning me like it was imflammed. I redid a culture. test result came back with traces of leukocyte, few epithelial cells, pus cells 0 - 2 she said i was okay but am not really, guys please any suggestions?
Avatar m tn It continued till FEB 2014, i kept taking antibiotics, such as rocephin, oxidil, intravenous, as prescribed by the doctors here, but my fever got really bad, it went upto 107.7, it was one of my worst experiences ever, they gave me cold bathes, sponging, ice and all, well it got over some how, and i was give 21 injections of meronem 1g three times a day for seven days along with azithromycin 500mg per day. It should have cleared the typhoid but well it did not.
Avatar f tn You see, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, and Moxifloxacin are all in the same class of antibiotics and bacteria creates resistance to classes of antibiotics, not individual antibiotics.
163305 tn?1333668571 —Cóilín Nunan, Alliance to Save Our Antibiotics News outlets reported Monday that UK government scientists have found a gene, known as mcr-1, that gives bacteria resistance to colistin, often used by doctors when other antibiotics fail. Such resistance was first discovered last month in China, and in the past few weeks, the resistance gene has also been found in Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, and in several Asian and African countries.
1636492 tn?1300413497 s best to test the bacteria for drug resistance before prescribing Clarithromycin. Stronger antibiotics can be used if the initial treatment did not eradicate the H. pylori.
Avatar m tn Has anyone had a false negative test result using the Home Access test or know how reliable it really is? Also, when do opportunistic infections start occurring after initial infection? Is it common to have immediate problems or more likely to appear in later stages?
Avatar f tn - earlier testing might show false positive for chlamydia as the recommended re-test period is 3 weeks after treatment, and false negative for the other two infections as they seem to have a longer incubation period (or could have been treated by zithromax but not completely) - i took the medication the wrong way, one 250mg then the remaining 750mg after five hours. Peak plasma binding for azithromicine seems to be two hours.
Avatar f tn What I would like to know is if the people who have not taken many antibiotics in their lifetimes are as at risk as those who have built a resistance to them. Is this mutant bacteria dangerous because the antibiotics don't work for a person who has a resistance or because it is so powerful that even if an antibiotic works well for you, the bacterial strain is so powerful, it will override any known antibiotic? Does this question make sense?
Avatar f tn A potentially dangerous sexually transmitted disease that infects millions of people each year is growing resistant to drugs and could soon become untreatable, the World Health Organization said Wednesday. . . Scientists reported last year finding a "superbug" strain of gonorrhea in Japan in 2008 that was resistant to all recommended antibiotics and warned then that it could transform a once easily treatable infections into a global health threat.
Avatar n tn Short courses of antibiotics have long-term impact on microbial flora of human gut Short courses of antibiotics can leave normal gut bacteria harbouring antibiotic resistance genes for up to two years after treatment, say scientists writing in the latest issue of Microbiology, published on 3 November.
Avatar m tn My recommendation is it wait a couple of weeks since taking your antibiotics, do not have sex with anyone, and then test for Ureaplasma, Mycoplasma and Trichomonas. And here's some copy/paste info for you: Tests are available through LabCorp, they are often not covered by insurance. Mycoplasma/Ureaplasma, Real-Time PCR http://www.labcorp.com/datasets/labcorp/html/chapter/mono/vm003300.htm Number 138778 CPT 87801 Trichomonas vaginalis, Nucleic Acid Amplification (NAA): http://www.
Avatar f tn If he takes irregular therapy or if he stops therapy, the organism may develop resistance to the conventional antibiotics and he will need higher antibiotics to tackle the infection. So, please follow up with your doctor, and complete the course as prescribed by your doctor. Regards.
Avatar n tn Hi, threre. Yes, your doctors are right. Antibiotics will develop drug resistance if you take long use. Besides, with the antibiotics treatment, your symptoms will appear again and again. Avatar f tn I have had 2 tests, both returned negative. The first test was a cervical swab gram stain test, however I had the test done approx 24 hours after being prescribed with 400g of cefditoren pivoxil and 1g Zithromax. The doctor said the test would be only 80% accurate due to the antibiotics i had already taken. Because of this I decided to get retested 1 week after taking the antibiotics. This time I went for a PCR urine test. This also came back negative.
