Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics during labor delivery

antibiotics

Avatar f tn Lol Google sometimes scares u but that is not a major problem of course if left untreated it will harm the baby during delivery. But they will just give u some antibiotics for it b4 delivery n u and baby will be fine. So relax.
Avatar f tn I had it.... they put u on antibiotics during labor. The internet can scare you so don't Google too much... I have two healthy boys and was on antibiotics during delivery with them both. I freaked when they told me the first time but honestly I never even was concerned about during the delivery process. I just made sure when I checked in to remind the nurses I had gbs even though I know my Dr had it in my paperwork.
Avatar f tn My little sis has GBS and they administered an antibiotic when she went into labor and right before delivery. It's not bad and with the medication they give during labor baby has a very very VERY slim chance of getting it.
Avatar f tn About half way through pushing my body became overwhelmingly hot at my temp had jumped to 104.0 during active labor! I was so miserable and I felt like I was going to pass out and throw up! About 10 minutes later my doctor came flying in the room and said "We HAVE to get your baby out so it's either a vacuum delivery or emergency C-section" I choose the vacuum delivery because I had him in the birth canal already and had been pushing for so long!
2137220 tn?1340741325 I have to get tested for that in 2days but according to my Ob if you have it its no big deal for you but if they don't give you the antibiotics during labor and delivery the baby can and may get seriously sick by getting infected coming out.
Avatar f tn And how did I get this. I'm so scared I'm 36 weeks and 2 days. Is it too late to cure it!!!
4185834 tn?1363969486 My doctor tests after 36 weeks. Mine was positive. All it means is that I will be given antibiotics during delivery to make sure baby doesn't get sick. Nothing to worry about as long as antibiotics are given. I don't know why you had it so early, but different docs do things differently.
Avatar f tn Yes. They will start you on antibiotics during labor. I tested positive at my 8 week appt.
349463 tn?1333571576 i had strep last preg and I had a normal vaginally delivery. they just gave me antibiotics during labor. c-section was never brought up.
Avatar f tn i can deliver vaginally. i will have to be hooked up to an iv during labor and delivery. im going to start these probiotics that were recommended to me hope they help.
Avatar f tn As long as you get antibiotics during delivery, baby will be fine. I wasn't gbs positive with my dd, but my cousin was with her son. All they did was give her antibiotics via iv while she was in labor. But it is very important you receive the antibiotics while in labor.
Avatar f tn I have it n im also nervous cuz this is my 3rd pregnancy n 1st time having it. My doc said that when im in labor they'll put an ivy in me to treat it during labor.
5021579 tn?1376397207 They will give you antibiotics during labor. Best time for you to get the antibiotics is about 4 hours before the baby is born, which is plenty of time. After birth, there aren't any risks anymore for you. They will just monitor the baby for about 24 hours to make sure baby is fine. Don't worry. It's more common than you think. Good luck.
Avatar f tn ll have an IV during labor/delivery as a precaution for baby since newborns do not have antibody to strep. We have lots of bacteria in our bodies.
Avatar f tn I tested positive with my first 12 years ago. Treatment is IV antibiotics which are given during labor. We stayed an extra day just for observation. She were both just fine. Tested negative this time.
Avatar n tn I did. They gave me antibiotics during labor. My daughter was a little jaundice the 1st week but it cleared up and now she is a healthy 3 month old. Just make sure you go to the hospital early so they can start antibiotics early. It's really nothing to worry about.
234013 tn?1231110193 I did not have this during my first pregnancy. Dr is not concerned. Just will need antibiotics during delivery. Wondering if anyone else has tested postive for this???
4981292 tn?1381256805 They are looking for strep B. it can be transmitted during vaginal delivery of not treated with antibiotics before delivery.
Avatar f tn If you test positive for it doctors will just prescribe intravenous (IV) antibiotics during labor and delivery to prevent transmission to your baby
Avatar n tn Oh ok well thank you :)
10078473 tn?1409215186 They will have to give you antibiotics before and I believe during labor and your baby may need to receive antibiotics after labor.
Avatar f tn Its a naturally occurring bacteria. Its not a venerial disease or anything like that. You didn't do anything to get it-its just there. Most some with the bacteria have no symptoms. As long as you are treated with antibiotics during labor & delivery, your baby will be just fine. No worries, mama.
Avatar f tn I'm 38 weeks and positive. You'll get put on antibiotics during labor so it won't get passed to baby. Absolutely nothing to worry about!
Avatar f tn If you do test positive they will give antibiotics while you are in labor. They give you antibiotics to prevent it from passing to baby during delivery because it can cause baby to get sick.
Avatar f tn I also have beta strep but my doctor is gonna put sum meds in my IV so the baby want get it when she gets here
Avatar f tn No don't be worried at all. Strep B is really common. It also comes and goes which is why they don't test you for it until towards the end of pregnancy. They'll just give you antibiotics during labor and everything will be fine.
Avatar f tn Last week at my 36 week checkup my doctor did the test for Strep B. I got a call saying it came back positive and that I'll need to be on antibiotics during labor. But that's about all I know about it...does anyone have any info about it. What exactly is it? What causes it? Should I be worried? Will I always have it with every pregnancy? How big of a danger is it to my child? Any info will be helpful!
