Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics in labor

antibiotics

Avatar n tn Take the antibiotics, with my first son I had a uti but didn't realise until I was in the back of an ambulance with my womb contracting due to a uti at 18 weeks. I was started on an anti biotic drip & steroids to mature the baby's lungs.
Avatar f tn Has anyone been hooked up to antibiotics for strep b while in labor? You can still walk around n go all natural right?
Avatar f tn lucky me my first urine sample came back positive for strep b. i start antibiotics today. i had to deal with strep b for my last delivery too. disappointed i have to deal with this again.
1123420 tn?1350561158 I was on antibiotics for a bladder infection I didn't even know I had. They say the infection could cause more problems then the antibiotics. (I guess preterm labor is the risk with a bladder infection)I've been taking cranberry pills since the infection to try to prevent future infections. Most importantly drink plenty of fluids.
1021301 tn?1275310290 I was put on antibiotics and it went away. I also was experiencing pre-term labor, but it continued even after I was treated for it, but I am pretty sure BV started my contractions early on. If your OB is not willing to listen to you, I would definitely get a second opinion.
Avatar f tn Did the doc want to induce you so the could plan to start your antibiotics?
Avatar f tn She told me that I had an infection and before I could begin pushing I needed 2 antibiotics and she was going to go see patients in the office for a little bit...Shortly after I told my husband and the nurses that I couldn't wait any longer and that I needed to push! The nurse said okay we will do practice pushes but when we went to do the first one they could see the baby crowning so it became very real very fast!
Avatar f tn I was on 4 different antibiotics while in the hospital till the day I left. My baby got put on antibiotics for 4 days for the yeast infection and for the infection in my waters. They told me they would not do a c section unless it was life or death bc I had the infections and it would've been way too dangerous for me in the end!
10298511 tn?1414504869 m getting tested for GBS tomorrow and I hear a lot of women are positive for it and I waz wondering if I test positive can I still do water birth because they have to do antibiotics in the IV when yoir in labor every 2 or 4 hours I believe until the baby comes so the baby doesn't get infected. Does anyone know if I can still waterbirth?
Avatar f tn I initially went into preterm labor at 25w I had no clue what was going on aside from I was in massive amounts of pain. I went to the hospital and they told me I was dehydrated and had bv and gave me two bags of iv fluids and some antibiotics. The very next day I was back and they realized I actually had a kidney infection and I spent 4 days in the hospital on iv antibiotics and fluids. I was released on modified bedrest.
Avatar n tn She informed me that in my labs taken last week, that bacteria was found in my urine. She told me not to worry and that it was most likely a uti, and that they were common during pregnancy. She called me in an antibiotic. Even though she told me not to worry I can't help myself but to worry. Any idea of anything possibly being wrong scares the hell out of me.Anyone else have/had one during pregnancy. Am I just freaking myself out??
Avatar f tn They just give you antibiotics through your IV while you are in labor. Some doctors do like to induce to make sure you get all the antibiotics and some do not, they just start the antibiotics right when you get to the hospital. They may want you to come in sooner once your in labor is all.
Avatar f tn I know, that's why I haven't started the medication yet. It kind of seems Ile it's just protocol to prescribe antibiotics when it's detected. It was found in my urine with my first pregnancy also. I was never swabbed because it was found in my urine and I got the IV antibiotics. I can't find anything about not taking antibiotics in the beginning if it is found. I just want to do what's right for my baby. I read it can cause early labor.
Avatar f tn I have GBS they found it in my urine at like 20 weeks. Im 37 weeks now. My partner and I were freaked about it but then we looked at the stats 1 in 4 women have it if left UNTREATED 1 in 20,000 babies are effected by it and even lower chance of death. So those rates are really good. Ive been treated for it and it came back. So we are doing the antibiotics during labor. Honestly, its sooo common its more common than a c-section. You will be fine as will babes.
Avatar f tn You get antibiotics in an IV every four hours that you are in the hospital in labor. If you are going to be induced they will start the antibiotics before they start the inducement.
Avatar n tn m kind of worried because now I have to be in antibiotics when I deliver my baby. And the risk factors are kind of scary. have any of you mommies tested positive as well?
8075190 tn?1401035475 (Antibiotics through an IV) when you go into labor and every four hours during labor. You can always tell them no. 1 in 200 babies delivered with moms that are carriers of gbs will actually get infected.
Avatar f tn I was told I had strep b bacteria in urine an when I go into labor I'm guna need antibiotics I was wondering if anyone else has had this and what exactly is it
Avatar f tn Some times I have to go on antibiotics for a week others weeks to months especially with the pregnancy restrictions on what antibiotics are safe. Good luck get on the antibiotics needed so it doesn't progress into a kidney infection.
Avatar f tn They treat it during labor with antibiotics in your iv. It really isnt anything to worry about and the chances of it harming baby without the antibiotics is really slim.
8489354 tn?1405627762 Thanks! The baby hasn't been very active, so they stopped the pitocin and they're going to check me in an hour. I have a fever, so they're giving me antibiotics. If I'm not progressing in an hour they are considering doing a c section.
10078473 tn?1409215186 Everything will be fine. You will be treated during labor with an antibiotic. Make sure to bring up the fact that you did test positive for it when you are in labor and delivery. Even though I'm sure it'll be in your chart, but just to have that peace of mind. Ive been positive with all my children. Except i wasn't tested with my first born when i was positive. She was at children's hospital for two weeks. She had a collapsed lung because of it.
Avatar f tn Hi ladies: I have a question for you wonderful ladies out there. Hopefully, you could help me out. I went to the doc yesterday for my check-up, pap and my hubby and I were able to hear the babies heart beats which was great to listen too. We were so excited to actually listen to their heart beats instead of seeing them on the monitor at the u/s.
Avatar f tn Oh okay thanks!!!
Avatar f tn Got tested last week should be getting my results this week the doctor said if i were to have it this is not a std it's an a infection and once your in labor they'll give you antibiotics so your baby won't catch any kind of infection or bacteria you have so your baby should be just fine dont worry.
Avatar f tn I have it with two of my pregnancies and they give u 3 bags of antibiotics during labor with my 2nd my labor was to quick for me to get all 3 bags so I had to stay an extra nigjt to make sure my son was fine. He was good!
Avatar f tn You will be treated with antibiotics during labor so that it is not transmitted to baby. If you are treated with antibiotics then risk is pretty low for the baby to get it.
