Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram without dye

angiogram

Avatar n tn hey my dad is suppose to go in for an angiogram but he fears what might happen to him if he does. i was wondering if there was possible any alternative procedure or something else he could possibly do.
326176 tn?1239515689 My cardiologist says that Angiogram is not advisable due to a possible risk of intervention between the dye injected and the medications administered presently for my heart condition.
Avatar n tn s case the CT angiogram may also be considered risky because of kidney problems. His kidneys may not be able to deal with the dye used for CT angiogram. I am not a doctor so here I am just giving advice based on my on experience.
Avatar f tn this is a non-invasive procedure compared to an angiogram and except for a dye reaction certainly has less risk. Provided almost as much information as angiogram. The CT scan can also give you a calcium score which may be helpful.
Avatar f tn You may not be aware that both a cath or CT scan angiogram 64 slice are procedures that inject dye to view perfusion, and determine if and where there are any lesions in the lumen of the vessel as stated in my previous post, and the CT scan is much more inclusive and almost as good as cath to evaluate lesions in the lumen. So to do a cath angiogram subsequent to a CT scan angiogram doesn't make medical sense unless there is going to be angioplasty.
Avatar n tn It is a simple procedure in which the doctors will pass catheters either from the arm or leg into the heart. Once there, they will place dye in the heart arteries and watch this dye on xray monitors. Arteries which are blocked will appear more narrow than the other arteries.
Avatar m tn CT scan 64-slice angiogram as well as a cath angiogram is by definition an angiogram as both involve a dye injection, but there is more intense radiation exposure with CT angiogram. It is fast becoming the radiological test of choice to look at disease of blood vessels. The next generation of a ct scan will reduce the individual's radiation exposure. The ct angiogram involves an assessment of the body of the vessels as well as the lumen.
Avatar m tn There are angiogram tests that inject a dye substance in the blood stream and the perfusion can be monitored by CT scan, cath, MRI. I had a CT scan a couple of years ago, and the report of the results commented on the blood flow through the implanted stent was as expected. Blood flow through the harvested grafts can be assessed as with any other vessel. Hope this answers your question. If you have any other questions or comments you are welcome to respond.
Avatar f tn Sorry, I meant mom 655 instead of stressball heart. Also, if you meant the stess test w/dye is the angiogram, then please disregard the previous post. Best wishes.
678571 tn?1228012270 I usually go to a cardiologist in another city. But my cardiologist could not perform my scheduled angiogram. My symptoms before this angiogram were chest pain with exertion of any kind. After this angiogram, I have had blood pressure problems, breathing problems, dry cough, shortness of breath and all the other symptoms that my cardiologist wanted me to do an angiogram for. He had said that if I needed an other stent put in. I would need a bypass even though I have small vessels.
17646939 tn?1458700001 my Dr said I need an angiogram and possible stent.I was shocked and refused, because I had a bad reaction to the contrast dye. So I acquired the test results Apparently I also had angiography. Before the test I took the 50 mg of metotopol 2hr prior to my appt. They could not get an IV in me for 2hrs. They tried for a deep vein but finally went with a superficial one. The dye gave me the worst headache and I started to swell but I was so sore and bruised that was my main focus.
Avatar n tn Has anyone studied possible side effect of insomnia following CT angiogram? I had CT of my heart 2 weeks ago and find that I am wide awake 3-4 hours after I have fallen asleep. My CT results were essentially normal so I don't think stress related to scan would be causing increased insomnia. This discussion is related to heart CT scan contrast dye related side effect.
1530144 tn?1291940314 If you were given a dye, you had a Fluorescein Angiogram. It helps them better see the veins and if there is any bleeding / leaking ... it's a common test. The only risk here is the dye itself, some may have allergic reactions to it.
Avatar f tn I have just been scheduled for an angiogram and I'm scared to no end I have a 3 year old son I love to death same as my soon to be wife. I'm so scared something will go wrong during the surgery how coming are complications? Also my ej is 73 is this bad?
Avatar m tn Immediately following an angiogram subsequent to a minor heart attack I developed a severe cough which at times produced a dense grayish mucous/phlegm. Does anybody know what caused it? Could it be side effect of one of the meds prescribed post procedure?
Avatar f tn The site provides a definition of cat scan calcium score and cat scan angiogram. I had a CC score and angiogram a couple of years ago. I believe the state-of-art for CAT has scans of 256 slices....provides more detail and sharper images. I find the Mayo Clinic, Minn or Cleveland Clinic to be a good source for medical procedures, tests, dx, prognosis, etc.
Avatar n tn Not to be critical as I beleive Lutheran meant to say cath angiogram. Both cath or CT angiogram use contract dye to view perfusion, and that procedure is the definition of angiogram. A CT scan 64/128 views the anatomy of the 4 main heart vessels and will show any soft plaque between the linings of the vessel as well as any plaque buildup in the lumen. The cath angiogram views the lumen for the plaque that narrows and obstructs blood flow causing angina (chest pain).

Avatar m tn I had seen an eye doctor becuase of vision loss in my left eye, i had my eyes fully diolated, and went through an eye exam. About 4 -5 days they performed the Angiogram, injected the dye into my arm and started to take photos of the eye. they didnt see anything that stood out so i was refered to the eye hospital downtown. About a week later i went down there had a full diolation done, and another eye exam.
Avatar m tn ve had the contrast dye before on a different CT scan and no problems, will the amount of dye used for this affect my heart in anyway with the lopressor and xanax?? thanks so much?? I've had alot of CT's and X-rays for my age, is all this adding to my cancer risk from radiation exposure?? Should I have the test done?
Avatar m tn I think it depends on the area of the body they wish to take images of. Usually to obtain clear pictures of arteries, a dye will be used. If for example they require pictures of the bowel, then a special radiactive dye is given in a drink form. It depends on what's being scanned.
