Angiogram of the heart

Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram of the heart

angiogram

Avatar n tn as far as running on treadmill not to sure of that either , would be asking a dr that. so a ct heart scan shows the heart values, do you have to be injected with anything when doing that test, is it a better test than a stress /nuclear test do you know. there is a dr fourm on here you pay 20.00 and they will answer your questions if you want to try them but i would see another dr , or if you trust yours go with what they say .
Avatar f tn The CT scan is more inclusive than a cath as it views the anatomy of the vessel, respiratory, aorta, etc. as well as the lumen...the cath only views the lumen unless there is ultra sound attached to the probe. An echocardiogram would not show any ischemia...echo establishes dimensions of the heart walls and chambers, blood flow, and wall movement impairment if any. The prior echo showed some wall movement impairment ( if serious EF would lower tnan normal...
Avatar n tn If needed, they can also measure the pressures in the valves during the angiogram. If you feel you have symptoms of blocked arteries, you should see your doctor.
Avatar m tn Iam 31, 2 Months before i got the chest pain and I immediately rushed to the hospital. They did the ECG and found little changes in V4 - V5. And I went through the angiogram. The angiogram results shows negative. And doctor discharged from hospital with some prescription for 3 months. Still I am getting the pain in center of chest. Two days before I went to doctor and in ECG found the V6 changes in the lead.
Avatar n tn Except for a minor pricking from the injection of painkiller at the top of the leg I felt nothing whatever, watched the arteries moving on the screen and talked to the doctor while he was maneuvring around them.. As it happened, a stent was put in but again, I felt nothing. I was in truth a bit uncomfortable afterwards when the anesthetic (which is only given to avoid discomfort at the entry point) wore off but I asked for a painkiller and calmed down. Go ahead. Have no fear.
Avatar n tn They are now thinking that it was Pericarditis (inflamation of the lining of the heart). But they did not treat it and told me to go back to work and start exercising 4 days after I had it. Not sure what to think anymore. Still having the chest pains 3 weeks later.
Avatar n tn I waited on my fiancé during his angiogram, 1 hour of waiting and 3 hours of supervising from the nurses then home we went
Avatar m tn It is important to note that calcification of the coronary arteries is part of the aging process, and all people develop calcium with age. For example, one study looked at calcium scores and coronary arteries using angiography. Almost all patients (95%) less than 40 years old with calcium score of less than 8 had no significant narrowing of the arteries. In patients over 70 years old, this number was much higher.
Avatar m tn Systole volume prior to contractions at rest would have the highest numeric value (peak), and diastole prior to filling and after systole would be the lowest value. Subtract diastole from peak systole and devide by peak systole would provide the fraction of volume pumped with each heart beat. A faster heartbeat does not provide enough time to fill as at rest, and the timing of contractions are less. The percent of blood pumped with each heartbeat is less reducing stroke volume (lower EF).
Avatar m tn Some are left dominant where the LAD and LCX supply most of the back of the heart. Some are right dominant where the RCA does this job. You simply have a dominant right side which supplies the back of the heart and I believe probably the AV node too. It's really just the way your plumbing is made up and is of no concern at all. Your LCX will be a relatively short vessel compared to someone who is left dominant because the LCX comes from the LAD (left anterior descending).
Avatar m tn An angiogram will give you and your health professionals an up close and accurate view of your heart. Like Ed, I've lost count of the number of angiograms I've had, I think about 15, the last one literally saved my life. You will go in and be prepped for the procedure, and given a cocktail before the procedure that will relax you. Let them know you have anxiety, and they will give you additional meds.
Avatar n tn Occlusion with hard plaque in the lumen of the vessel results in about 10% of heart attacks. Occcluded vessels untreated and progression leads to heart failure not usually a heart attack.
Avatar n tn For a block look for the word Occlusion or occluded. Patent means open and no restriction. There will be a percentage given for how restricted the artery is. Also, you may see words like Distal, mid and proximal, just think of those as the bottom section, middle section and top section. Bifurcation is where two arteries join. Lumen is the space in the artery where blood flows through. Lesion is the diseased area.
Avatar n tn Blocked coronary ateries compromise the blood flow to the heart tissues. A lack of blood flow to the heart cells causes chest pains. If there are blockages, a stent implant (usually done at time of angiogram) will increase the diameter of the occlusion/occlusions permitting more blood to the deficit area. Sometimes the area of blockage can not be stented because of location, tortuous segment, too long, etc...then a bypass surgical operation may be the only remedy.
Avatar m tn I had an echocardiogram done. My primary doctor told me the echo showed a hypokenesis disease of my heart and i needed to see a cardiologist for further review and testing. He also told me to suspend my gym activity and any strenuous activity until i see the cardiologist. When i asked what might cause this; he said it could be from blockage.
1318351 tn?1313381421 I'm not at all familiar with the 'bands around the heart' discussions unless he means heart spasms. Regarding the angiogram, they are very safe, there is little chance of any pain and a whole lot of information will be revealed. I've had probably ten of them. This will be one of those events that afterward you will wonder why you invested so much angst into prior to the event. After the procedure, you will have to lie still for several hours, so be sure and bring a good book.
Avatar f tn A question like this is so very good at starting a debate and a discussion which brings out the personal preferences in people. My personal opinion is that angiograms are great for treating emergencies and opening larger arteries which are occluded. However, there is a large proportion of people who still seem to suffer angina after having PCI treatment and this isn't a short term thing for recovery.
Avatar n tn A coronary angiogram by itself is often normal in people with microvascular angina (like Toni Braxton has), but a stress thallium shows perfusion defects and the EKG shows ischaemic changes with exercise because the heart is not perfusing adequately even though the blockage is not in the larger arteries that are seen on angiogram. Also coronary artery spasm can cause real cardiac pain and sometimes occurs in arteries that look normal on angiography.
Avatar m tn The circumflex is a coronary artery, supplying oxygen to the heart muscle, at the rear/left side. It is an important vessel because it does supply quite a substantial amount of tissue. Severe disease refers to the fact it is coated inside over a considerable distance with plaque, restricting the flow of blood. The Cardiologist may feel bypass is required. I do believe if the disease is over a long length of the vessel, it is very rare for stenting to even be mentioned.
Avatar n tn The heart function would be moderately diminished, and the tip of the heart (apex) takes on the appearance of a bulged out balloon -- it looks like a Japanese squid urn (Tako Tsubo). This condition is overwhelmingly benign, meaning that most patients recover over short period of time (weeks to months) with FULL return of heart function.
Avatar f tn I had a NSTEMI 27/10/08. !7/11/08 I was admitted for chest pain and my troponin levels were 1.3 then 1.1 four hours later. They treated me for NSTEMI heprin drip. The ecg showed changes but after having another angiogram the Doctor told me I didn't have another heart attack, the stent looked good as well as the other arteries, and said sometimes the heart can leak troponin.
Avatar f tn d be doing without this forum everyone is so nice and knowledgeable.
974371 tn?1424653129 Ok, I haven't even seen a cardiologist yet. Actually, I've had chronic mouth and throat problems no doctor is able to diagnose. In the mean time, I've been complaining of a *hard* heart beat for a while. My doc, as usual, attributes it to nerves. I mentioned it yet again so he finally sent me for a halter monitor and an ECHO treadmill stress test. I knew I didn't do to well on the stress test.
326176 tn?1239515689 An echo will show on the monitor any heart damage in real time as the damaged heart wall will be impaired. Also, the echo provides information to estimate the pumping efficiency of the heart and that would indicate the degree of muscle damage...can show any vessel blockage, just the results if significant.
Avatar n tn There is mild left ventricle pumping dysfunction due to akinesis (damaged heart cells) in the area given (septum...wall that separates heart chambers). Pumping dysfunction is very slight as normal EF is 55 to 75%. There is a small hole in the wall that separates the right and left atrium. There may be a biopsy associated with trabeculations!?. I'm not sure what the indications are when the echo was inconclusive, but the report shows results?
