Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram leg artery

angiogram

976897 tn?1379167602 In my last hospital admission, I was speaking with a Cardiologist before my emergency Angiogram. I asked if the catheter could be put through my radial artery rather than the femoral. He said that it isn't a problem even though I've had a Cabgx3. When I got to the Angio-suite I was told "you cannot have anything except the femoral artery used because we don't have images of your bypass and we could take a wrong turning". Personally I find this crazy.
Avatar m tn The catheter goes into the inside of your leg, near the top, to enter the femoral artery. If this is offtrack I apologist. The area is numbed of course and you are given medication to keep you relaxed. If I'm offtrack, some cardiologists can go through the wrist.
Avatar f tn I would consider having an Angiogram, but through your arm and not the leg artery. You have some calcium showing up on the ct scan of which I will translate for you. Halfway down your left main coronary artery (LAD) you have suggested moderate sized blockage due to the calcium detected. The word 'luminal' is in reference to the open space in the artery which blood flows through.
Avatar f tn An angiogram will help determine if you blockage(s). I first had the procedure done in 2005 and the doctor found an artery with 90% blockage. He put in a stent.
Avatar m tn s assistant with coronary artery problems which have required several catheterizations in the past, just told me about his last angiogram in which they ran the catheter through the WRIST, via the radial artery. He said it was a piece of cake compared to his previous experiences. Here is more info about this procedure: http://www.oregonlive.com/health/index.ssf/2011/09/treating_heart_disease_through.
Avatar f tn I had an angiogram on 12/27/12. Since having my leg is hurting in the thigh area and in the groan area. Put ice on groan area and heating pad on thigh. Called hospital where procedure was done, said this is normal. When I walk I am limping. Really painful. IS THIS NORMAL. this is my first angiogram. Worried about clotting in the leg.
Avatar f tn One of our main concerns is that it could be the vein they replaced with his leg to his heart which might not be pumping right due to his diabetes or just cause its from the leg moved to the heart now. I have no idea. It has been very stressful for all of us since right now there are no answers. Has anyone here had to go through this again as my dad does now? This soon? Its very scary and hes been very upset and emotional about it...please help. Thank you..
Avatar n tn My husband recently went an angioplasty. During the procedure, his femorial artery was punctured causing a pseudoaneurysm, which then caused a blood clot to form on the outside of the artery wall. This resulted in them going back in to do a thrombosis injection. Because of the where the puncture was located, they had to actually operate on my husband. He has a 7 inch incision in his groin area. They had to drain the blood clot and repair the artery.
Avatar n tn Thank you for the information. The test went well and the angiogram showed no heart or artery problems. We are now back to ground zero trying to figure out what is causing the chest pain and extreme fatigue.
Avatar n tn My first one was in my right leg and my second one, they had to go in my left leg. My doctor said it is more complex because the artery is not a straight shot like the right leg artery is. The left leg has to curve around, however, they were able to do it. No complications for me from doing the left leg. I have read that they can also do it through the arms now. So that is another consideration you could bring up with your doctor. Good luck and hope to hear good news.
Avatar m tn What kind of biopsy? What about an angiogram? Would that be a regular angiogram or would the dr. have to go in the small artery or vessel and how would they know what vessel or artery to go in thru since it's a small artery or vessels.
Avatar m tn If these tests indicate you have coronary artery disease or you have severe symptoms, your doctor may recommend a coronary angiogram to evaluate the severity of coronary artery disease and the exact location of any narrowing or blockages. Do you have severe chest pain (angina)?. Is medication ineffective to treat symptoms? You may want to google COURAGE study before you have a discussion with your doctor. It will give you an insight of the appropriate treatment for coronary artery disease.
Avatar f tn The only discomfort is the local anaesthetic injection, which stings for about 5 seconds. After that, you wait in anticipation for them to open the artery in your leg, but suddenly you realise that they are already in and doing the work. You feel absolutely nothing. Sometimes they may inject a fair amount of the dye and this can cause a hot sensation in your body. So if you suddenly feel hot for a few seconds, don't panic, it is quite normal.
Avatar n tn how do i intepret an angiogram result? to know which is left or right? how to know if there is a block?
Avatar f tn After I had an emergency Angiogram after a Radical Hysterectomy - nothing was found to be wrong with my heart. Now that I am home I realise there was a nerve cut which the procedure was done and now I am numb on the right side - groin area and my right labia. I have a great deal of pain - much like that felt with Shigles (I expect) the skin is very tender and I even have difficulty wearing clothes.
Avatar n tn An EKG is not very reliable to diagnose ischemia or a an MI and requires further testing i.e. stress test, ct angiogram or cath angiogram. If it is closed (implant vessel), in all probability it can be reopened with a stent. I'm not sure what keeping an eye on it means, but it does indicate it may not be serious, or not taken as anything very seriously. If it is closed (totally collapsed), that can be very serious?! Partially collapsed?! You may want your father to get a 2nd opinion.
Avatar m tn On a last, but important note. It is becoming the norm to do an angiogram through the radial artery in the wrist now. This reduces complications because you can't bleed to death from the wrist, not like you can from the femoral artery in the leg. You are up and about virtually straight after the procedure.
Avatar m tn - Is it typically an interventional cardiologist that does the initial cath and angiogram of lower extremities and legs in the process of treating peripheral artery disease that causes leg or calf cramping? I've had an ultra sound evaluation and the pain of claudication when exercising indicates I have it.
Avatar n tn I got a report from my CARDIO and it read like below. Chronic occulsion in OBTUSE MARGINAL, and one artery has a very mild decease. The rest all clear. My GP told me that all is well. They did not do anything. They did not give me any medication. I was told my GP that I should start taking an Aspirin every night. My calcium score total was 252. I am little confused.
1213000 tn?1280463161 On May 19, after a MRI stress test was abnormal and an angiogram showed diffuse restonosis of the LAD stents, I underwent CABG (4X). 10 weeks later, another abnormal MRI stress test and on 30 July another angiogram. the results of thst angiogram was, all stents are now closed, all grafts are open but there is flow irregularities that may be caused by size mismatch between the vein grafts and the native arteries. This is being treated with Metprolol 25 mg and Diltiazem 120.
Avatar n tn I had an angiogram which reveiled nothing too significant but it does say that I have a mild tortuosity in the mid right coronary artery. My insurance would not pay for me to see my dr. again so I just wanted to know if what exactly is this and can I continue to exercise. What causes this and can it be reversed?
Avatar f tn my Dad is 67 years old and had memory loss ,slurred speech due to two little block in brain and blockage in internal carotid artery . The doppler study and MRI A angiogram showed 100% blockage of left internal carotid artery. The right artery had 30% 40% of block. His colateral blood is normal. he had diabeties and Bp for the past 1 1/2 years. he got blood supply through right arteries..
Avatar n tn The doctor found 100% blockage in right artery and went through a angioplasty for the right artery but while the angiogram he found 2 more blockage in left and main aorta.Doctor gave us two options first angioplasty and second bypass. As bypass is a megor oparetion so i think angioplasty is more suitable. But wnat to make sure that should we go for an angioplasty in this condition or not. my father is 65 years old. Please suggest......
