Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram heart

angiogram

Avatar f tn Cholesterol medication can reduce calcium already in the heart in higher doses. Medication is always best if the heart situation is not life threatening. An angiogram at the age of 70, can have more risks than for someone who is younger. Sometimes the arteries become thin or weak, which increases the risk of an artery tearing during an angiogram. Does he have diabetes? If so, this would increase his risk. His LVEF is great! Left main artery is normal, which is the most important artery.
Avatar m tn CT scan 64-slice angiogram as well as a cath angiogram is by definition an angiogram as both involve a dye injection, but there is more intense radiation exposure with CT angiogram. It is fast becoming the radiological test of choice to look at disease of blood vessels. The next generation of a ct scan will reduce the individual's radiation exposure. The ct angiogram involves an assessment of the body of the vessels as well as the lumen.
Avatar m tn My father died at 40 from a heart attack. My brother at age 36 just had a heart attack (three arteries blocked, and one was small from birth, heart will be at 85 percent for rest of life). 2) I do have high cholesterol 220, and have been on medication since I was 23. No change. Diet is ok, but needs to change. I used to smoke, for about 10 years, but done with that. 3) I have had numerous EKG, a couple of stress test and one echo done all normal.
Avatar m tn t think a 64-slice CT-A is good enough to remove all doubt as to were you are as far as your heart is concerned plus you will be out $1,300, however, an Angiogram will. Below is what I found on a web site. That ought to tell you something. "If the CT scan is normal or only mildly abnormal, it makes the likelihood of a severe blockage of the coronary arteries extraordinarily small.
Avatar n tn They did an ECHO stress test and found some blockage in the back of my heart. They then requested me to do an Angiogram for them to see better in to my heart. I did and I was sent home after 4 hours. They said I am OK. Thats all. I saw my cardios letter while I was with my own GP.
Avatar n tn how do i intepret an angiogram result? to know which is left or right? how to know if there is a block?
Avatar n tn Blocked coronary ateries compromise the blood flow to the heart tissues. A lack of blood flow to the heart cells causes chest pains. If there are blockages, a stent implant (usually done at time of angiogram) will increase the diameter of the occlusion/occlusions permitting more blood to the deficit area. Sometimes the area of blockage can not be stented because of location, tortuous segment, too long, etc...then a bypass surgical operation may be the only remedy.
Avatar n tn Hi I had a Heart cath done in June of 2008 every thing was perfect but I still have the pain and I am constantly worried that it is my heart. What are the chances that it still could be my heart? I also had all the other cardiac work up done. and everything was fine. Thank you. Avatar f tn i have a family history of heart disease i have just been in hospital with chest pains mainly when i'm walking up stairs i had a tredmill test my blood pressure droped after 5mins & the test was stoped i then had an angiogram which showed plaque disease and a few ventriclar ectopics i have high cholestral 6.
Avatar m tn The circumflex is a coronary artery, supplying oxygen to the heart muscle, at the rear/left side. It is an important vessel because it does supply quite a substantial amount of tissue. Severe disease refers to the fact it is coated inside over a considerable distance with plaque, restricting the flow of blood. The Cardiologist may feel bypass is required. I do believe if the disease is over a long length of the vessel, it is very rare for stenting to even be mentioned.
Avatar n tn No heart damage was detected, they did an angiogram and found only 10% micro vascular blockages. Then one month ago I had again possible heart attack. Elevated triponin that continued to rise with chest pain. Did not see any stress cardiomyopathy on echo. I again had a repeat angiogram but only showed micro vascular blockages at about 10%. They are puzzled with what is going on. I am active and excise daily, have been eating low fat, low sugar diet for 15 years.
Avatar f tn You will know a lot more about your heart health after the procedure, they will determine your EF factor during the Angiogram. Your heart arteries will be mapped, any abnormalities noted. I have advanced CAD, and have for close to fifteen years. I wasn't very careful with my health until fifteen years ago. You have an opportunity to have a great snapshot of your heart vascular condition, and can create a baseline for further treatments, if needed.
974371 tn?1424653129 Ok, I haven't even seen a cardiologist yet. Actually, I've had chronic mouth and throat problems no doctor is able to diagnose. In the mean time, I've been complaining of a *hard* heart beat for a while. My doc, as usual, attributes it to nerves. I mentioned it yet again so he finally sent me for a halter monitor and an ECHO treadmill stress test. I knew I didn't do to well on the stress test.
Avatar n tn There is mild left ventricle pumping dysfunction due to akinesis (damaged heart cells) in the area given (septum...wall that separates heart chambers). Pumping dysfunction is very slight as normal EF is 55 to 75%. There is a small hole in the wall that separates the right and left atrium. There may be a biopsy associated with trabeculations!?. I'm not sure what the indications are when the echo was inconclusive, but the report shows results?
326176 tn?1239515689 The dye injected for performing an Angiogram would react with the medications taken for the heart ailment, advises my cardiologist.
329165 tn?1515471990 I had an Angiogram done in 01/2007. i have familial-cholestorol (latest lipo showed total of 6,9 fasting) During the Angio they only found coronary artery spasms. no blockages found. the past 4 weeks or so I have been experiencing chest tightness and some burning pains in chest - at rest. lasting under 1 minute and dissolves by itself. I have not been taking any Cholestorol meds (medical aid depleted) for the past 7months.
Avatar n tn After a cardigraph treadmill test I'm being referred for angiogram - I'm going on holiday in two weeks with a 3 hour flight. Should I travel?
Avatar m tn An angiogram is not looking for electrical conduction problems like an EKG or holter monitor test. An angiogram rules out major blockages in the heart from plaque, etc.. Please ask your doctor for an event holter monitor that you can wear to check on the rhythm and electrical conduction of your heart.
Avatar m tn Your heart was normal a year ago yet your EF was only 15% ? High blood pressure would have adapted your heart to get 15% so what caused such a dramatic drop in your EF?
Avatar f tn I am scheduled for an Angiogram next week. My question is what does this all mean? Also had mild regurgitation in valves. Should I be concerned.
Avatar f tn Thanks for responding:0) The spasm was dx'd after the angiogram was completed and they determined that it wasn't a heart attack...no damage done to my heart. But they didn't see it on the angiogram. I think the cardiologist made the guess after the angiogram didn't show much. They monitored me closely throughout the test. I didn't realize they set a guideline for how far to push the heart. Thanks, that answers my question!
Avatar n tn I had a CT angiogram for heart this week. Compared to a regular angiogram or catheterization , the CT angiogram can be considered a noninvasive procedure. However, in your dad's case the CT angiogram may also be considered risky because of kidney problems. His kidneys may not be able to deal with the dye used for CT angiogram. I am not a doctor so here I am just giving advice based on my on experience.
678571 tn?1228012270 He passed away about a month after the angiogram, in his sleep. Appears that the angiogram weakened his heart and especially the side of his heart that circulates the lungs.
Avatar f tn You better check with your doctors, I am not sure about the potential damage due to the radiation dose that you will take during the procedure. Also if they discover blockages in your coronaries, I do not know about the risk of the medication that you will need.
Avatar f tn I started to have an irregular pulse. Referred to cardiologist. 24 hr heart monitor had an a tiny episode of palpitations. Standard stress test another episode of tacycardia (drs. term). Otherwise did great on stress test, no high bp, colesterol tests good, age 67. He wants to do angioplasty. Is it really necessary? He called the episode on the stress test an artifact(?).
Avatar n tn You have mild reversible ischemia in the anterior wall in the LAD territory which may be treated with medications or a stent depending on the severity. Your heart is still functioning well with a EF% of 71% which represents the amount of blood pumped out of the left ventricle with each beat. Do write to me again after the angiogram. I sincerely hope it helps. Best luck and kind regards!
