Common Questions and Answers about Androgel and prostate cancer

androgel

Avatar m tn I was on androgel for several years with good libido results before discontinuing due to prostate cancer. After brachytherapy for my cancer, I am in remission, and after 2+ years resumed taking androgel. I am on androgel again, and have high Testosterone levels (about 1000), but my libido has never recovered. I also have had hypothyroidism, but have been taking synthroid for it for many years with no adverse impact on my libido. Does anyone have a suggestion for what to do?
Avatar m tn I read a few studies linking trichomoniasis to prostatitis and also prostate cancer. I have been married for 4 years and have 2 kids. Before I was married I dated plenty of people. Should I be tested for trichomoniasis or would it be gone after 4 years of being with the same person? Also, should I test due to the fact my dad had prostate cancer?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with low volume prostate cancer in 2015. My Gleason score is 6. I am on the 'active monitoring' protocol. I have also had issue with low testosterone levels and currently use androgel. My PSA has been drifting upwards and after maintaining a level of around 500 for my testosterone, my most recent blood test show an increase of PSA from 3.4 to 3.7 and testosterone levels of 500+ down to 200. I am 63 years old.
Avatar m tn yea i had a ultrasound on my prostate last summer was good..my psa last week was 0.8 or .8 good..it was .2 cuz im on androgel..yea 50 seems like alot happens i just turned 50 xmas day..
Avatar m tn The Androgel bottle says it's supposed to be kept at 77 degree's. The room I keep my Androgel in a roo thats about50 degree's . Could this be affecting the Androgel? It doesny seem to be working for me. Started on 4 pumps and worked at first then it didnt. Now on 6 pumps and I felt a difference but now that has declined. Jusy wondering if the room temp could be harming this drug and maybe why it doesnt seem to be working for me. Thanks in advance, Sutallee.
Avatar f tn If you go on you tube and enter non invasive procedures for prostate cancer detection or prostaye cancer biopsy needle tracking and you see videos fron universities and prostate research and other different type entries. Any doctor of urology will also tell you it is possible but rarely happens which is not the all together the truth ..I have been researching this and other prostate information for 6 plus years. But enough said ...
Avatar f tn Well, management protocol of prostate cancer is not as well defined as other cancers and largely depends on the stage of the cancer. For localized lesions, gamma knife may be a suitable option with results as good as surgery and better results for maintenance of urinary continence. It would be best to discuss the pros and cons and the expected prognosis in detail with your treating oncologist. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn I started using Androgel because of depression, hair loss, shaving every 3 days (which is good!), atrophying of all muscles and my bone density dropped. I started Androgel 1.62% and everything improved greatly Good luck and do this only with doctors approval.
Avatar f tn He had a biopsy and he had Gleason 7 cancer and atypical cells in another area of the prostate. After his prostate removal surgery, the atypical cells turned out to be Gleason 6, or 3 + 3, which is slow growing cancer. This is what I have learned with our journey and what you need to remember.... 1). This is a highly curable cancer if it is present. And if it is present, you cannot change it but only deal with what is in front of you.
Avatar n tn You could probably think of people with breast cancer who had spouses with prostate cancer as both cancers are pretty common. Since prostate cancer is common, you may also hear of spouses with other cancers – uterine, cervical, etc. There is a good screening method for cervical cancer, talk about it with your doctor. This has reduced the number of cervical cancer cases substantially. This is much better than being scared.
Avatar m tn My question is, shortly after I began Testosterone Replacement Therapy and am using Androgel daily. Is this an issue that I should be concerned with in regards to the CSCR? Or is it really corticosteriods that are a problem? This a concern to me since I have noticed a significant improvment in my overall general well being since using Androgel.
Avatar n tn Towards the end of last year I was diagnosed with stage 3 prostate cancer, gleason 10. My psa was 18.1. I have since had the DiVinci surgery (which I fully recommend) and I am not undergoing radiation. None of the existed before Spiriva!!!! I found out that if you are on Spiriva 2 years - 5 years your chances of getting prostate cancer is 50%. If you are over 60 (I am 62) the chances are 90%.
Avatar n tn In general it is believed that asymptomatic men (which would mean without any symptoms referable to the prostate, and indirectly probably have a smaller prostate size) would also harbor prostate cancer as they age. About a third of such men would, but majority may remain without symptoms and die of other things such as old age.
Avatar n tn If your dog is neutered, it will stop the levels of testosterone, which could cause prostate swelling and prostate cancer too. It would take a while to max. effect because he'd still have SOME testosterone in his system for a bit. But it would be a quicker option than medication. But it would be a good option only if he's generally in good fitness and condition for his age. The anaesthetic might stress him if he has heart or lung problems, or some other health problem.
Avatar m tn also should i get checked for prostate cancer if i haave 2 close relatives that have already been diognosed with it......I have problems with starting and stop peeing, if i dont push urine out it sprays everywhere....but im only 24....if anyone has any advise please let me know....i need it......also what can untreat chymidia do...I have been treated for chymidia once before and a couple of months later i think i got it again because of the symptoms..
694895 tn?1263662430 The only thing I can recommend is contacting the company that makes the Androgel and ask if they can give it to you at a reduced rate since you have no insurance. Your Dr may have to fill out a little bit of paper work for the company. Take care.
689860 tn?1238718032 I've been using Androgel for 3 years and have done well with it. My guess is that the doctor who ordered your hormone tests would also write the prescription. I got my test and prescription from my regular family doctor. Androgel is expensive ($120 a month here in Canada), but my private health plan covers it, which is great. The province where I live will only pay for the injections, not the gel. The gel will be generic within a few years, so the price will go down.

Avatar n tn - Prostate cancer. Prostate cancer cells in remaining prostate tissue or in other parts of your body can release PSA. Checking for signs of prostate cancer is the main reason men have PSA tests. - Recurrent benign prostate growth. Some prostate tissue remains even if your entire prostate is removed. This tissue may continue to grow, leading to increased PSA levels. - Inflammation of prostate tissue (prostatitis).
Avatar f tn ) He has even gone to a therapist for counseling for anxiety. I recently googled Androgel and anxiety and did come across quite a few people who have had cases of anxiety with Androgel. Could this be the cause? We think possibly. We recently stopped the pristyq (about 2 weeks ago) and just went to the endocronologist today. First time seeing a specialist. She had him stop the Androgel, although she has not heard of it causing anxiety. She is having him do blood work in 2 weeks.
Avatar m tn t notice as long as i keep exercising ---if your doses of androgel are high you may notice a bit of fatigue and and in the sexual dept but nothing severe .
Avatar f tn We have been told that it is a T2c tumor (contained within the prostate) advanced and aggressive cancer. Surgery is not an option because "the cancer is too advanced and there is less than a 10% chance of getting all of the cancer". I am confused. Is this stage 2 as they have indicated with T2c, or stage 3, based on their comments? The recommended treatment is hormonal therapy (total androgen blockade) and radiation. Is this the best treatment to start with?
Avatar n tn I was tested again about 4-6 wks later after taking 5 g 1/x day Androgel and they said it was in the normal range, they didn't give me the number. I am not scheduled to do another test at this time. In hindsight I really don't think I ever should have started androgel because of the sleep apnea. I think that lifestyle changes, mainly exercise, would have been the thing to do at the time and that is my plan now, esp once the back pain subsides. I think this will help the test.
