Avatar f tn PS your doc sounds like s/he is on the ball -- that's good! If you would share with us what you learn about whether amoxicillin is as effective as doxy, that would be very interesting -- It sounds like your doc is quite observant -- excellent!
Avatar m tn My St. Bernard was diagnosed with Lyme Disease Monday evening. She was limping for a few days and then it stopped and came back. We gave her an aspirin and it made her very sick, so we took her to vet and the the vet did a blood test that came back positive for Lyme. He gave us Amoxacilin and a med to settle her stomach. My problem is this, She is limping much worse today then she was on Monday. She is eating but not as much previous to Lyme.
Avatar m tn s son had the same rash and his doctor prescribed him amoxicillin 3x/day and said it had to be AT LEAST 14 days for lyme treatment. I looked online and that is what I found also. I am concerned my son was not on antibiotics long enough and that symptoms will show up later when it is harder to treat. Should I call the doctor back and try to get him on another 14 days of treatment or would that be too late at this point? Please any advice would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn I finally talked him into an rx for Amoxicillin (allergic to Tetracycline). He recommended see a dr. for fibro and to see if those meds helped. So does this Western Blot mean nothing? I thought it was accurate especially those bands.
1138687 tn?1548643978 Doxy is the usual approach when it's a very recent bite, as yours seems to be. Biaxin is the same as clarithromycin, Dr Burrascano's 'treatment guidelines' posted on the ILADS website say: "First-line drug therapies for Lyme disease may include (in alphabetical order): oral amoxicillin, azithromycin, cefuroxime, clarithromycin [=Biaxin], doxycycline, and tetracycline. These antibiotics have similar favorable results in comparative trials of early Lyme disease.
Avatar f tn view held by the CDC and IDSA is that after the standard treatment for Lyme, any continuing symptoms are due to an over-active immune system reacting to a now-gone Lyme infection. The contrary view, held by Lyme specialists/LLMDs, is that the Lyme bacteria run and hide in biofilms, slimy shields the bacteria create to sheild them from detection by the human immune system.
2128874 tn?1335442182 I read your other post as well, and what you describe sounds a lot like Lyme Disease. Sometimes Lyme is misdiagnosed as fibro. It is very common for children to get Lyme, and then struggle to describe what they feel. When medical tests don't offer an answer, the child is doubted and sometimes accused of being whiny or lazy. Heck, this happens to adults, too! There is a good overview in thIs document. Read it and see if you think it describes your experiences.
147426 tn?1317265632 Does this mean there is no DNA for Lyme, but you still carry the spirockete that causes Lyme disease and you will never get rig off it? I was tested for lyme twice having these results: Lyme Western Blot Results for first one =0.67; for second one= 0.15 (Negative results) Do you have any idea why the number went down? I have many symptoms, and I asked my infectious disease doctor why he does not prescribe me antibiotic, if there is a probability of infection.
Avatar f tn This is so frustrating for many reasons-they say an autoimmune disease can cause a false positive Lyme and because I am a medical assistant and work with some of these doctors that can't figure this out. I am educated enough to know what the bloodwork is showing, but unable to know the cause. The one LLMD we had in our area recently closed his practice so I am on a search for a new one. Thank you for all your info and best of luck to you.
Business woman2 These symptoms certainly could be from the allergic reaction but could represent another condition such as lyme disease or other infections. She should be reaxamined by her physician to get an accurate diagnosis.
1287128 tn?1331134538 so they are continuing treatment for lyme amoxicillin 3x a day for 21 days. but to be on the safe side we are being referred to an infectious disease specialist and a hemotologist/oncologist both at children's. The doctors around here arent hesitant to treat for lyme as I live in a very wooded area and lyme is very common so im certain they are covering all the bases. thank you all for your input and ill update again after seeing the specialist.
Avatar m tn Hi All, My husband wrote the previous post regarding myself with possible lyme's disease. Here are all my symptoms: headaches, joint aches, swollen lymph nodes in neck, ear pain in and behind ear, jaw pain with some tooth pain, fatigue, dizziness (almost like a brain fog), some word-finding difficulties (could be related to fatigue), and some occasional tingling/numbness in arms, hands, and left side of face. All these symptoms are intermittent. What are your thoughts?
Avatar f tn With joint pain. My doctor tested me for Lyme disease and it was positive. I took doxycycline For 12 Days till I developed a mild rash on my face. My doctor took me off and put me on amoxicillin for 2 more weeks. My question is if I have contacted syphilis from this exposure would all these antibiotics cure it? And would an 95 day hiv negative oral swab be considered conclusive? Please help put my fears behind me.
Avatar f tn If this is true, it is significant that some physicians follow a protocol for treating Lyme disease that allows just two to six weeks of antibiotic therapy. Based on the above scenario this may be inadequate. "If either of the above examples are true, this may mean that physicians who are acting in good faith by using conservative treatment protocols may actually be prolonging and thus complicating Lyme infection in their patients. However, much of this theory is speculative.
1421029 tn?1282717378 Bethbell, I have had lyme disease for many years so I empathize and sympathize with you. The comments you've gotten are good. Let me add that you have to stay on a high powered antibiotic regimen for a long time. I am a new member to MedHelp. I don't want to abuse the rules. So let me just add, while this MedHelp site is good, there are other sites that have tons of members and information. It's good to get information from a lot of people and sites. Try to keep smiling.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm still being treated with antibiotics for a clinical diagnosis of Lyme disease. I'm just wondering if there are others out there who experience a large amount of tingling and numbness in hands, feet, face, scalp and sometimes even my tongue. I don't have any pain in my joints, it all seems to be neurological. I also have a lot of pressure in my head and dizziness/lightheadedness. It's as though I can't move my head fast or I'll have an "off" feeling.
Avatar m tn Patients treated with appropriate antibiotics in the early stages of Lyme disease usually recover rapidly and completely. Antibiotics commonly used for oral treatment include doxycycline, amoxicillin, or cefuroxime axetil. Patients with certain neurological or cardiac forms of illness may require intravenous treatment with drugs such as ceftriaxone or penicillin. In a small percentage of cases, these symptoms can last for more than 6 months.
225036 tn?1294509400 I would have him do a western blot to confirm lyme and I would also do some reading on all the different lab tests that can be run on co-infections. I would also look for a lyme literate doc that specializes in children. Get on line and read as much as you can on Lyme....
Avatar f tn I never had any problems with anger or depression prior to getting Lyme disease, but that is who I am now. I fly off the handle over the stupidest things that seem like life or death to me at the time. There is that irrational thought. I am a 38 year old grown woman with a license to practice registered nursing and I drove my car down a walking path because I needed to get my daughter out of the rain.
Avatar f tn Lyme can lurk, and a strong immune system can keep it in check for a very long time. I would not assume that the current course of abx for your throat will fix Lyme, because Lyme doesn't go by those rules -- it's not like most bacteria and needs different abx and longer treatment, just like tuberculosis does (18 months minimum treatment, on particular meds).
