7558356 tn?1410715309 My doctor put me on it because my GBS was causing me to go into preterm labor. Since being on the amoxicillin, the contractions have slowed down, but are way more painful than before, they just aren't coming as frequently. But the weird thing is, since I've been on the amoxicillin I've gained 5 pounds, my hands and feet are extremely swollen (I literally lost my ankles) and I've been having shortness of breath from walking literally to the kitchen.
7558356 tn?1410715309 So they prescribed me amoxicillin on Tuesday. I was on it once before during my pregnancy early on for a UTI but I had extreme morning sickness and don't remember specifics of how I felt when I was on it. My question is, how many ladies have been on it and had trouble sleeping? I seriously cannot sleep after I take it. I'll take it at 8pm,and I might fall asleep before 1 am (which is so rare for me.
Avatar f tn Hey everyone, about three months ago I got my paragard IUD out after having it in for six years. That very night I went home and felt symptoms of an oncoming UTI, a really slight burning (not when I pee, just a burning "down there") and the frequent urge to urinate. Well, it never turned into an actual UTI; it was just those faint symptoms, which confused me. I thought maybe they were a weird side effect of Paragard removal and ignored them for a few weeks.
Avatar f tn Hello all, first off I am so thankful I found this site because there is little to no information on GBS. About a year ago I started to notice my vagina getting extremely dry, it would crack then peel. The cracks were similar to tiny paper cuts all over my clitouris. There was no smell or discharge so I went awhile thinking it was just dry skin. Well after about six months of dealing with the severe dry skin I went to my gyno.
Avatar f tn My dr just put me on Amoxicillin 500/3X day for 7 days. After 10months, multiple drs with no diagnosis/no relief. I’m believing this will be my solution!
Avatar f tn I have gbs, they give you penicillin. My doctor told me when contractions are 6 mins apart for an hour to go to the hospital. I'm sure they will run the penicillin until the baby is born because the antibiotics really aren't for you since its your normal flora not the baby's.
Avatar f tn I had group b strep (GBS) with my second son and they just give you pennicilin in your iv during labor so they baby doesn't contract it. After the baby is out everything is fine. I had my son at 4:42pm and got out at 6:42pm the next day. No worries!
7550046 tn?1408669967 I had strong contractions, my body was clearing itself out (sorry TMI) my son dropped so low I could barely walk and I lost like 5 pounds. I had a hospital scare at week 34, and they put me on amoxicillin because they said my GBS was causing me to go into early labor. At 36 weeks, I was 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced, and at 37 weeks I was 2 cm dilated and still 50% effaced.

3112100 tn?1379614659 Those women who test positive for GBS are said to be colonized. A mother can pass GBS to her baby during delivery. GBS is responsible for affecting about 1 in every 2,000 babies in the United States. Not every baby who is born to a mother who tests positive for GBS will become ill. I had it with pregnancy 2 and 3. It's a normal bacteria that ca be found on people's skin and in some women in gets inside their vagina but since its not harmful it isn't treated.
Avatar n tn I have had a UTI caused by Group B for months now. Never had the burning or frequency just bladder pain. My first urinalysis came up negative at the doctors but when sent out grew group b. She said it was small numbers but since I was having pain to treat it. We did so with amoxicillin. The pain and peeing at night never went away.

2132141 tn?1335678074 GBS carriage is not a sexually transmitted disease, nor is GBS carriage a sign of ill health or poor hygiene. No one should ever feel guilty or dirty for carrying GBS – it’s normal. "Because GBS may be passed from one person to another by skin to skin contact, everyone (regardless of whether they know they carry GBS) should wash their hands properly and dry them properly before handling a newborn baby.
Avatar f tn Hi there. Im currently 31weeks pregnant and have my GBS test coming up. I realise GBS a std. To be on the safe side i have been tested for all STDS besides trichmonias. I was wondering if i have to nag the docter to test for this aswell or if there was a infection such as this will it show up on my GBS swab test? Thankyou!
Avatar m tn Hi my name is Steven and I am new to the board! I had GBS back in the summer of 2005 and made a full recovery.....at least my nerves did. So heres my problem. Ever since I had GBS I have been very sick. When I say sick, I don't mean the residual fatigue or peripheral nerve systems that persist after GBS, I mean sick as in feeling like I constantly have the flu, bad. It started when I was towards the end of my recovery which was about 5 months after my diagnosis.
Avatar f tn If its inserting the epo, its not neccessary, it depends on individual, as for for the gbs test, its very neccessary to do it
Avatar m tn Hi, Thank you for your question. In GBS there may be a decreased immunity, so you may experience symptoms due to other associated underlying disorders. Although there is no permanent cure for GBS, but treatment like plasmapheresis, physiotherapy, pain killer, blood thinners etc help reduce symptoms, treat complications, and speed up recovery. Please arrange an appointment with a neurologist who will evaluate the further possibilities here and can provide you an appropriate treatment.
Avatar n tn I delivered my 4 th baby in the car and I was positive for gbs. My daughter turned out fine. She never got gbs from me.
Avatar f tn Group B strep is normal. Every woman gets it on and off in their life it's just a matter that you're so close to delivery that it's a concern. Since you're positive they will give you an IV antibiotic when your labor starts to prevent passing it to your baby. There's nothing to stress about there. About a third of women in labor are treated for gbs. As for water breaking, there's no way you won't notice that.
