He woke up one morning and I could barely see his teeth..Gums were swollen and bleeding.. I took him to the emergency room and they said it may be a reaction to a viral infection and prescribed amoxicillian for 10 days...It has been 6 days and still they are bleeding...What is wrong? He is too young for gum disease, right?
I typically take 2 grams of amoxicillin before all dental procedures (and some medical ones, too) due to Mitral Valve Prolapse with regurgition and a PFO in the heart.

People have been telling me that antibiotics completely cancel out birth control but, I'm skeptical. My period is supposed to start in four days.. should I go ahead and take a pregnancy test?? I had all four wisdom teeth cut out five days ago. I was prescribed Oxycodone and Amoxocillin. I've never had surgery nor have I have taken these medications. Yesterday I started having frequent urination and today my lower back on the left side started hurting. I was wondering if these two things were correlated with each other. I thought the amoxicillin might have given me a uti. Is that even possible?
Hello, 5 weeks ago I woke up with severe pain in my bottom right side of mouth. The gums swelled up, so I went to the dentist. There was an abcessed tooth, so the Dentist pulled the tooth. The lump on my gums stayed swollen, so the Dentist took two additional x-rays of my mouth 2 and 3 weeks later and said the other teeth were fine and he wasn't sure what to make of it. He wanted me to wait and see if the swelling resided.
I have 4 teeth that need to be pulled.. I started taking my penicillin on Friday, 3 days ago. Saturday pain got worse. it feels like my throat is sore on left side my ears have been clogged for a week my voice is scratchy. the pain is unbearable no pain killer works. I have an appt to have them pulled next wk.. My best friends brother died at age 26 from abcessed teeth. Is this serious for me should i call the dentist back is it gonna get worse before next week.
When i talk the pain radiates out to the surrounding teeth and gum areas. There is no oral swelling or pus pocket and i think it has started again. No insurance and i might have to go to the ER again for a RX since i only have 3 amoxicillin 500mg that i was taking three times a day for the last time. What do i do here? I'm scared that itll affect other areas and the pain is affecting my job as receptionist. HELP!
I went to my dentist, and he told me I would likely need a root canal. After about a week, the teeth both turned greyish, and I went in again and the root canals were performed. Because the teeth were severely discolored, the dentist used a peroxide solution that was injected into my teeth to change the color back to a white. It was successful, and made my teeth look close to normal.
I called my OS and he prescribed amoxicillin and I went in on Monday for him to look at it (he barely did, just poked it to see if it would ooze) and he said to continue amoxicillin. It has now been 7 days and the infection has not gone down and I am in pain. I fear that I am going to go back in to see him and he will just prescribe more antibiotics... Do you think I should get a second opinion and that maybe something is lodged in there and needs a debridement or cleaning?
Thank you for your responses, they are greatly appreciated. I just had my exam today at the periodontist. She prescribed me amoxicillin, in one does totalling 2000 mg. I am very concerned about this. Last time I went to the dentist they gave me antibiotics over 2 weeks. She wants to give 4 500mg pills taken at once and hour before my procedure. Not only am I afraid of the dosage, but endocarditis. Is this normal to take this much at once? Now I do fear this will mess with my heart.
Hi there , so i currently had my wisdom teeth taken out and was given antibiotics to help any infection from coming and after a week of taking them me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex he did not ejaculate inside of me, and i have been and am currently taking birth control diane35 for about 3 years now? i also did not realize that amoxicillin alters the effectiveness of birth control.. am i at really high risk for being pregnant? i still have a bit to go till my period would come ..
And yesterday I had to have a tooth pulled, (My teeth seem to be falling apart.) And the dentist gave me amoxicillin for the infection and tramadol for the pain. Both say should not be taken in cases of liver problems. I am taking only half the dose he prescribed of the pain medication, and will stop it as soon as the pain stops. But the amoxicillin should be completely taken, to clear up the infection. What should I do? I don't want to cause any more damage to my liver!
Ok, so like I went to the dentist last tuesday, he said i had a really deep, bad infection in a back, lower molar and put me on antibiotics(amoxicillin) and extracted the tooth the next day. I have also had a slightly swollen thyroid for about 4 weeks and my throat has felt kind of fiery and hot on and off and i've felt weak and tired on and off as well.
The only other thing worth mentioning is that in May one of my wisdom teeth became infected, and I was put on 14 days of amoxicillin. Once that cleared up, I had my wisdom teeth taken out on 6/5/12 and then was on amoxicillin for another 10 days. I cannot really remember if the symptoms began after the surgery or before, but it was very very close in the time frame.
Me and my boyfriend just had sex the day I started my dosage of amoxicillin 500 mg which I'm suppose to take 3 a day before getting my wisdom teeth pulled. I am on Birth control and have been for awhile but I had no idea that it lowered the effectiveness until it was too late. Could I be pregnant? What's the chance of it? please be specific.
The best antibiotic is probably amoxicillin or clindamycin. Ciprofloxacin would work. I don't usually prescribe bactrim. I don't really prescribe ciprofloxacin either.
Also, try a bruxism splint as you may be clenching your teeth causing the jaw tightness and sensitive teeth. If they are wisdom teeth, take them out. If not, a second opinion would be good for peace of mind. If the bruxism splint stops the pain by day 5, you need a nightguard or dentist made bruxism splint, and may not need the extraction.
Please help!!! I got one wisdom tooth out 2 days ago and I'm feeling a burning sensation coming from where the stitches are. Feels like someone is rubbing a pepper on it. I also feel very swollen inside there where I can't comfortably touch my teeth together and relax. Taking amoxicillin antibiotics already and my oxycodone is literally taking none of my pain away. Am I getting dry socket??
one is scheduled for extraction, the second one for root canal...I was prescribed amoxicillin 500mg and Tylenol 3...I tablet ev 6 hours as needed...I came home took my first dose..took a nap and woke up with a swollen lower jaw...right around the area that is giving me problems...pain is getting worse...swelling is about the same...can't sleep...too much pain...I just took the 3rd dose of the pain meds an antibiotics....I read somewhere about taking Benadryl in addition to help sleep...
I also had confusion, blurry vision and extreme mental confusion. This week I saw an endodontist who prescribed me amoxicillin. I am worried bc I believe the infection has spread to my ear, jaw, neck and possibly brain or blood. What do I do? How can I be sure that this isn't the case?
I was already given some AMOXICILLIN 500MG to take and started to take imidatly, however it is now tuesday and my face has been swollen and the gums near the tooth is all puffy and sore like i have thousands of mouth ulsers. i am getting worried as it really hurts.
I have stopped taking the IBUPROFEN as i read this could cause face swelling.
Please help, is this a rare thing that can happen after root canal?
First, I have been told I should have waited longer than 2 days. Second, I coincidentally had to take 2000 mg amoxicillin in prep for teeth cleaning one day after the contact, so wondering if the med may have resulted in false negative. Anyway, got retested 10 days after contact and nervously awaiting results. Wondering what the actual risk would be for contracting these two infections in this situation.
