amitiza

Avatar f tn Hi, I was just put on amitza and it is helping some, however, I am getting a headache from it along with nausea. I will continue it for a few days to a week and see how it goes. I will check out the ACOG Colon Cleanse though. I was on 8mcg of the amitiza first twice a day and it didn't help at all, now I am on the 24mcg twice a day and it seems to be helping, I have to be home though while taking it if you know what I mean? How are you since posting your message?
Avatar n tn I rarely had a BM, twice a week if I was lucky, at 2 weeks the most. My new specialist that I have found perscribed Amitiza 24mcg twice a day also and it instantly took away the pain that I never thought would go away. That alone was a miracle! My stomach was also free of bloating which was odd to see since my abdomen was always severly bloated and extended, my stomach finally didn't look like it was going to burst.
Avatar n tn I was taking Linzess and it didn't work and they offer a refund as long as you have your receipt and tell them why, etc.? Do you know if the manufacturer who makes Lubiprostone offers a refund if it doesn't work?
1773179 tn?1314201148 They had me on Amitiza 24 MCG capsules and polyethelene gylcol powder. I took the pills and the powder twice a day. I also ate fiber one cereals and bars. I have always ate alot of fruits and vegetables.
Avatar n tn The amitiza 8mcg barely does anything twice a day and when I took the amitiza 24mcg I go diarrhea with more pain and I past out. Now my doctor has placed me on Misoprostol and so far these past 2 weeks haven't gotten better. I felt better before I seen a doctor and now I can barely go out at all. I have been thru many tests, colonoscopy, endoscopy(which ulcers were found) but were never treated. Blood work and catscans. Did the gole bladder test and everything else came out normal.
974371 tn?1424653129 Hi, the most reported common side effect of amitiza is diarrhea. It can also cause abdominal distension, nausea and abdominal pain. It can also cause fecal incontinence. Like your doctor suggested you can continue this medications for a few more days before you give up this medication. Regards.
Avatar n tn My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?
605458 tn?1539228808 My doctor just started me on Amitiza last week following a colonoscopy that was fine. I also have had 2 CT scans; one without contrast and the other with contIrast and nothing showed up there. I had and still have a pain in my right lower abdomen. This AM the nausea was so bad I called the GI group and was told to stop taking the Amitiza for a few weeks and that the most common side effect of the drug is extreme nausea and it should ALWAYS be taken on a full stomach.
29837 tn?1414534648 30 p.m. Two hours later I hardly feel anything. It’s not like the past three treatments. Just a little dizzy and warm breath until four hours later. I started shaking slightly with the chills, then more and more. After three blankets and a heating pad, I was still shaking very badly, teeth chattering for one hour. I went to get an 800mg pill of Ibuprofen and I could hardly walk to the medicine cabinet. My left hip was extremely painful from the medicine.
Avatar m tn Have you tried taking magnesium citrate every morning? Have you tried Amitiza? I have not tried Linzess yet, but Amitiza is pretty good for me. You could try taking walnut hull and wormwood preparation for parasites to see if that helps you.
Avatar n tn The GI doc put me on Amitiza but did not help so today (a week after my colonoscopy) she took me off Amitiza and started me on 3 Metamucil tablets every morning and 1 Colace, then 1 Colace each night as well. I'm waiting to see what happens next...good luck to you.
Avatar m tn Also take Lactulose and Amitiza. However, in order to take the Amitiza must take a nausea pill before and after. Often times still have nausea with the Amitiza and not convinced it helps all that much. I've been at this for 8 yrs and have done everything but stand on my head. Without pills and powder - bowel movements are difficult and every 3-5 days. And only partial. EXTREMELY bloated. Have difficulty fitting into street clothes later in the day. Makes work life and social life difficult.
Avatar f tn You can also try drinking the yogurts that contain the good bacteria and get some capsules that contain the Lactobacillus acidophilus (and the rest) to get the good bacteria into your guts. You are doing right to drink water. 2-3 litres is recommended, more if you sweat, the weather is hot, or you work out at the gym. Doing exercise or simply going for a walk will also help to move your bowels.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know if it is ok to release the medicine out of capsules and mix the medicine up in juice? I have a problem swallowing pills and was not sure if this was an option????
Avatar f tn I took stool softeners, laxatives, and suppositories constantly... My doctor finally put me on Amitiza 8MCG Capsules... I take 2 a day and they have been my miracle... No cramping or bloating at all and I'm having more bowel movements each month as this builds up in my system... I would suggest you ask your doctor about it and see what he/she thinks...
Avatar n tn I did and its been a month and it still hasnt healed. Having trouble with constipation and I am on amitiza. Any advice is welcome. As well, my doctor told me to take a stool softner twice a day to. Thinking about starting to eat soup.
2102085 tn?1350866645 I went to a gastroenterologist the next day and she thought it was IBS and prescribed me Amitiza and Bentyl. I have been on the Amitiza and it makes me have frequent watery BMs...and the Bentyl does not do much. The pain is constant and I feel like I'm pregnant I'm so bloated (I'm not!) could this really just be IBS? Could the pain be reproductive (i.e. ovarian cysts) I'm going to school for nursing and it is really interfering with my education...
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi Candy, I really don't know how common it is but I also have IBS that just keeps getting worse... I only have bowel movements once maybe twice a month... I know it's hard to believe but it's the truth.. Also, I used to never have bloating and pain in between those movements... But, in the last few months my stomach stays distended, I cramp until I double over, and nothing seems to help... My doctor said it's a combination of the MS and the medication...
Avatar f tn I had an endoscopy and found out I have a large duodenal ulcer with partial outlet obscrtuction. Can I take Amitiza with this ulcer?I was supposed to have a colonoscopy but I couldn't get completely clear.I was put on a drug to help heal the ulcer and a proton pump inhibitor.I just want to know if it is safe to amitiza.I am on opiods so I need it.
Avatar m tn I found 25mcg a little overwhelming and started on 12.5, moving slowly (and as quickly as I could) up to 24mcg... i.e. after an initial 2-3 weeks of becoming comfortable, I was to alternate with the higher dose and so on. It was quite difficult at first knowing which symptom belonged to my 'hypo' and which symptom came from the increase in meds, but it didn't take too long to understand it better (with help from this forum).
Avatar f tn I am on milk of magnesia, amitiza, and dulcolax and my doctor wants me to try to get off the milk of magnesia. You can try using other medications for constipation to see if that works better. Amitiza is a new one out there but sometimes certain ones work better than others. Has your doctor ever mentioned abdominal migraines?
Avatar m tn As for the constipation, try taking one capful (the little cup thing that comes with the bottle) of milk of magnesia every day. Talk to your GP about Amitiza, you might be a good canidate for that, as well. Not every constipation problem needs fiber as most people (and some doctors believe)-I did that for years and my problem continued. I laid off the fiber as directed by my gastroenterologist, took the Amitiza & m of m each night and my troubles were over.
Avatar f tn Long and twisted colon that tends to slow passage of stool and cause constipation that can be quite severe. I take Miralax and Amitiza for mine. They work, but are expensive - especially the latter.
