Amitiza and side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Amitiza and side effects

amitiza

Avatar n tn My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?
Avatar n tn Hello All. I'm really new on the panel and I'm searching for help. In the last two weeks I have not been able to have a BM. My doctor gave me some samples of amitiza 24 mcg. I've been taken them 2 per day for the last 4 days - One at night and another in the A.M. With the 1st tablet I had a BM. I have not had another BM since. It doesn't seem that I'm having any normal digestive sounds or movements. I don't even have the urge to have a BM.
Avatar f tn I have been taking amitiza for a month now and it works great. I haven't had any of the side effects that everyone is talking about at all. When I take it though I always take it after I eat.
Avatar f tn I feel chained to the bathroom and of course never clean. Zelnorm was the beat solution and worked really well but then was taken off the market. What can I do to resolve this ever increasing problem?
605458 tn?1539228808 This AM the nausea was so bad I called the GI group and was told to stop taking the Amitiza for a few weeks and that the most common side effect of the drug is extreme nausea and it should ALWAYS be taken on a full stomach. In it's place she put me on 3 Metamucil tablets each morning and 1 Colace, then 1 Colace at night. We are trying this for 2/3 weeks and then maybe ease back in to the Amitiza.
Avatar m tn Also take Lactulose and Amitiza. However, in order to take the Amitiza must take a nausea pill before and after. Often times still have nausea with the Amitiza and not convinced it helps all that much. I've been at this for 8 yrs and have done everything but stand on my head. Without pills and powder - bowel movements are difficult and every 3-5 days. And only partial. EXTREMELY bloated. Have difficulty fitting into street clothes later in the day. Makes work life and social life difficult.
2102085 tn?1350866645 I went to a gastroenterologist the next day and she thought it was IBS and prescribed me Amitiza and Bentyl. I have been on the Amitiza and it makes me have frequent watery BMs...and the Bentyl does not do much. The pain is constant and I feel like I'm pregnant I'm so bloated (I'm not!) could this really just be IBS? Could the pain be reproductive (i.e. ovarian cysts) I'm going to school for nursing and it is really interfering with my education...
Avatar m tn I have been to a neurologist and MRI came out negative. He was the one that prescribed Cymbalta, Topamax, and Lyrica. The side effects from the first two meds were worse than the illness itself. I took Lyrica for a month and didn't notice any change, whatsoever, good or bad. I've been referred to a rheumatologist so I'll follow that route. And I'll try milk of magnesia.
1704915 tn?1357601254 Yep, my GI docs have said they could remove my entire colon (for colonic inertia, not a tortuous colon), but they wouldn't be able to connect it to my rectum as my rectum doesn't function well. They are also very hesitant to do this because my small intestine doesn't function well either (CIP) along with my stomach (GP). The reaction you had to amitiza sounds like side effects and it doesn't sound at all like Herxheimers or die-off.
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried it and had it worked for you. Symptoms??
Avatar n tn Miralax which still makes it so it takes over a week to have a BM and I last tried Amitiza which made me VERY sick from the side effects (felt like I had the flu)
605458 tn?1539228808 I used to take regular Seroquel with no sexual side effects. I was recently changed to Seroquel XR and the side effects are so different than regular Seroquel, and one of them is sexual side effects. Anyone else? The other new med I am on is Amitiza, which is for Irritable Bowel Syndrome and didn't have sexual side effects listed. I have been under a lot of new stress lately, but that has never caused this problem in the past.
Avatar n tn t suffer from it anymore. P.S. CBD oil and/or Marijuana has never killed one person and there are no side effects other than "an elated feeling of happiness"....wow, that is some bad stuff. LOL Be facetious. Basically the above Marijuana has been given out by the US government for years. They know it works and that is why they provide it to individuals. Sadly, Marinol, a synthetic THC (pot) has been on the market for decades and has never had any side effects.
Avatar n tn I have done the doxycycline and a few other therepies that my gastrointerologist recommended. They would work for a while and then would get worse agan. I am now taking Amitiza and am doing pretty good with it. Though I have now started noticing a correlation to my menstral cycle and the onset of these symptoms. A week before i start my period I will stop haveing BMs. Completely. I won't go again until I start. And then I usually have to induce it somehow.
Avatar f tn I was not pleased to discover the limited literature available on this medication. So far, side effects seem minimal. I think it will take some time to see if it is really working as I was on vacation and out of my daily routine starting the Amitiza. This morning, my stomach isn't doing well and I'm having pain again. I'm not really sure where or what to do next. I started doing a web search for IBS food plans as the doc offered nothing in terms of diet and foods to avoid.
Avatar f tn I am on milk of magnesia, amitiza, and dulcolax and my doctor wants me to try to get off the milk of magnesia. You can try using other medications for constipation to see if that works better. Amitiza is a new one out there but sometimes certain ones work better than others. Has your doctor ever mentioned abdominal migraines?
Avatar f tn This looks like "official" matter. What meds are in question? Colonoscopy showed something? IBS is not a disease at all, and there's no drugs for IBS, as I know (my opinion). Zelnorm was even withdrawn from the (U.S.) market last year, now it might be back again.
Avatar n tn (I have tried Mirilax, Amitiza, Zelnorm and Dulcolax to no avail) I was also tested for celiacs and that came up negative. I went to my OB/GYN and planned surgery for this month thinking that the pain (on my left hand side, right under my ribs) and by my ovaries, too could be the cysts but yesterday i hit bottom. I woke up and I felt a throbbing pain under my ribs. I ran to pee and it took me 45 minutes to poop scary black tarry stools.
512694 tn?1216161406 Have any of you tried Amitiza? My gastro doc wants to put me on that for my motility issues, but I don't like the side effects. Would love to hear from real people if they have taken it and their thoughts on it. I don't know of any other drugs used for motility besides Reglan, which I won't use. Thanks for any help!
1414174 tn?1304680526 I started noticeing side effects at about 8pm, and they continued till this morning. I experienced a low grade headache, aches in my upper legs and lower back, some difficulty sleeping, and an awkward kind of dizziness (which I notice now seems to immediately follow my Riba dose). I am a Genotype 1b, with what I was told a 6log Viral load?? I have clean and sober for over 6 years, and am pretty sure I contracted the virus about 7-8 years ago..
7829857 tn?1401192659 I am grateful to have been cleared at the 4 week mark. I was just feeling that the side effects were getting worse and worse and i was battling discouragement. I am very grateful for your help and admire the way you are handling this!
Avatar f tn I am 55 yrs old female and went for a physical and was told i had high blood presure, that day it was 144/92. I had a blood test and it showed high cholesteral 257. Doctor put me on 10 MG Lisinopril. I took the tab for 5 days on the fifth day my heart was pounding so hard in my chest and i felt like someone was sitting on my chest. This happened a few more time over the next week and it would go away after a few min.
Avatar m tn 22 days on sovaldi-olysio-no side effects, not even a headache. And to this life long non responder who has done and failed with everything that has been on the market, this combo is working.Cant believe I am getting better and not suffering like I did with all the previous poison. Its like Dr. Bones McCoy from Star Trek brought this stuff back from the future.
Avatar n tn I woke this morning with aches and pains and have been experiencing a headache on and off all day that is when I am not SLEEPING. Honestly I am not complaining especially since I had expected much worse. My question is do the symptoms change or/and get worse as treatment continues. I would assume they do get worse since the meds build up in your body. I have 3 kids ages 16,11,and 7.
