amitiza side effects

My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?

Hello All. I'm really new on the panel and I'm searching for help. In the last two weeks I have not been able to have a BM. My doctor gave me some samples of amitiza 24 mcg. I've been taken them 2 per day for the last 4 days - One at night and another in the A.M. With the 1st tablet I had a BM. I have not had another BM since. It doesn't seem that I'm having any normal digestive sounds or movements. I don't even have the urge to have a BM.

I have been taking amitiza for a month now and it works great. I haven't had any of the side effects that everyone is talking about at all. When I take it though I always take it after I eat.

This AM the nausea was so bad I called the GI group and was told to stop taking the Amitiza for a few weeks and that the most common side effect of the drug is extreme nausea and it should ALWAYS be taken on a full stomach. In it's place she put me on 3 Metamucil tablets each morning and 1 Colace, then 1 Colace at night. We are trying this for 2/3 weeks and then maybe ease back in to the Amitiza.

GI Specialist sees no other options. If you have had the surgery, was it successful? Any long term side effects such as diarrhea?

I have been to a neurologist and MRI came out negative. He was the one that prescribed Cymbalta, Topamax, and Lyrica. The side effects from the first two meds were worse than the illness itself. I took Lyrica for a month and didn't notice any change, whatsoever, good or bad. I've been referred to a rheumatologist so I'll follow that route. And I'll try milk of magnesia.

The side effects you mentioned with Amitiza actually sound like a reaction which is called Herxheimers or die-off. This and your overall sympyoms lead me to the thought you have either bacterial overgrowth (the gas causes the constipation), candida (ditto) or even parasites (they can block the colon completey, but cannot be seen with barium or ct scan or whatever).

I was diagnosed with torturous bowel several years ago, and currently take Dicyclomine 3x per day and Linzess (as needed) to control the symptoms. If it gets REALLY bad, I will take Miralax, however I cannot take it regularly as it interferes with other medications I am taking.

I went to a gastroenterologist the next day and she thought it was IBS and prescribed me Amitiza and Bentyl. I have been on the Amitiza and it makes me have frequent watery BMs...and the Bentyl does not do much. The pain is constant and I feel like I'm pregnant I'm so bloated (I'm not!) could this really just be IBS? Could the pain be reproductive (i.e. ovarian cysts) I'm going to school for nursing and it is really interfering with my education...

I used to take regular Seroquel with no sexual side effects. I was recently changed to Seroquel XR and the side effects are so different than regular Seroquel, and one of them is sexual side effects. Anyone else? The other new med I am on is Amitiza, which is for Irritable Bowel Syndrome and didn't have sexual side effects listed. I have been under a lot of new stress lately, but that has never caused this problem in the past.

There is only one available in the U.S. that is Reglan which has all sorts of side effects. I cannot take this medication because of those side effects so purchase Domperidone through a Canadian drug company. Since I do this, insurance does not cover it. Also, I am very frustrated with the medical profession's lack of awareness regarding this disease.

Hi Candy, I really don't know how common it is but I also have IBS that just keeps getting worse... I only have bowel movements once maybe twice a month... I know it's hard to believe but it's the truth.. Also, I used to never have bloating and pain in between those movements... But, in the last few months my stomach stays distended, I cramp until I double over, and nothing seems to help... My doctor said it's a combination of the MS and the medication...

I was not pleased to discover the limited literature available on this medication. So far, side effects seem minimal. I think it will take some time to see if it is really working as I was on vacation and out of my daily routine starting the Amitiza. This morning, my stomach isn't doing well and I'm having pain again. I'm not really sure where or what to do next. I started doing a web search for IBS food plans as the doc offered nothing in terms of diet and foods to avoid.

Have you tried taking magnesium citrate every morning? Have you tried Amitiza? I have not tried Linzess yet, but Amitiza is pretty good for me. You could try taking walnut hull and wormwood preparation for parasites to see if that helps you.

I am a sixteen year old girl and i have been having stomach pain for about 9 months now. the pain is usually in the upper left side and radiates out. sometimes it feels like someone is squeezing my upper intestines and my rib feels like its popping in and out of place. my symptoms are weight loss, severe constipation, headaches, bloating, gas, and loss of appetite.

This looks like "official" matter. What meds are in question? Colonoscopy showed something? IBS is not a disease at all, and there's no drugs for IBS, as I know (my opinion). Zelnorm was even withdrawn from the (U.S.) market last year, now it might be back again.

Have any of you tried Amitiza? My gastro doc wants to put me on that for my motility issues, but I don't like the side effects. Would love to hear from real people if they have taken it and their thoughts on it. I don't know of any other drugs used for motility besides Reglan, which I won't use. Thanks for any help!

I will do that it seems the higher dose has created this and I'm not on anything else.

Many AD's have side effects that affect the libido, guess it applies to both sex es. As far as I know all AD's have this drastic effect . Hopefully you'll find one that's OK for you . Good luck.

Yes, I've only been on it a week and I experience the muscle aches and bilateral flank pain as well. In addition, insomnia!

THOUGHT I WAS GOING CRAZY BEFORE I FOUND YOU GUY. SIDE EFFECTS MUCH MORE THAN WE HAD BEEN LED TO BELIEVE.PERSONALLY HAVE THE BLURRY VISION, ENHANCED JOINT PAIN, SWEATS, AND SLEEP NOT GOOD. FINALLY SAW FEED BACK FROM THE COMMUNITY THAT VERIFIED OTHERS FEELING SAME. ANYONE FEELING ANYTHING ELSE ODD? PLEASE POST. ALSO HAVE BLOATING, IRRITABILITY. AND CONTRARY TO WHAT DOCTORS SAY, I'M ALWAYS CONSTIPATED.

Does anyone know of any side effects from using the circulation booster. I have the opportunity to buy a second hand one, but my brother believes it can't be good for your muscles to zap them so to speak, like it will confuse your muscles.

Hi. I am on week 60/72, second round of treatment. I was really really sick after shot for first few months and then this resolved and became tolerable at least. I now find that I am having these same significant side effects later in tx. This didn't happen last round, but I went 48 then. Anyone else have this happen?
