Avatar m tn I am suffering from BPH for the last 4 years and I am taking DUTASTERIDE (AVODART) and Alfuzosin . Unfortunately , these meds do not help much since few months ago. I also about a new procedure named: gat-goren (GG), that sounds as non-pervasive. Did anyone hear about the GG procedure and can share experience or knowledge about that ?
Avatar m tn Hello, Flomax is used for the treatment of BPH and if you are having side effects to this drug then you can use other alpha blockers like doxazosin, terazosin, alfuzosin or 5 alpha reductase inhibitors like finasteride and dutasteride. Effects may take longer to appear than alpha blockers, but they persist for many years. But they are available under prescription and should always be taken under a medical guidance. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar m tn Older drugs, phenoxybenzamine and prazosin are not recommended for treatment of BPH.[5] Alpha-blockers relax smooth muscle in the prostate and the bladder neck, and decrease the degree of blockage of urine flow. Alpha-blockers may cause ejaculation back into the bladder (retrograde ejaculation). The 5α-reductase inhibitors (finasteride and dutasteride) are another treatment option.
Avatar f tn I finished 3 courses of antibiotics in last two months, levofloxasin, norfloxasin, and Cefixime. Then I showed to a urologist in the last week and he put me on 30 days course of Alfuzosin. Not sure if is the antibiotics or the Alfuzosin that has worked but I am feeling 90% better now but the frequent urination persists. Erection feels uncomfortable and still mild pain at the penis tip sometimes.
Avatar n tn A recent study published in Urology suggests that PSA and PSA velocity are important predictors in distinguishing prostate cancer and bph after bph treatment. Followup PSA is essential and a saturation biopsy may be warranted. How many cores were taken during your previous biopsy?
Avatar m tn Hello, I recently had a rigid cystoscopy and I have been placed on Pinexel PR for 2 months by my urologist. I had a bladder neck level problem and BPH. I have some issues with this medication, specifically retrograde ejaculation which is not acceptable for me at 26 years old. My question is, are there alternative medications which deal with the problem (shrinking prostate instead of masking the symptoms) and could this be prostatitis as I have had UTI's in the past.
Avatar m tn However, it is possible that the difficulty in urination could be due to the BPH itself and not related to the possible drug interaction. If the problem is due to an enlarged prostate, it would be better to have him undergo some procedures such as PVP (photoselective vaporization) to treat the BPH. This procedure is of a shorter duration with better recovery and fewer chances of complications than TURP.
Avatar n tn Over the past four years or so a number of articles have appeared in the media about trials where botox is injected directly into the prostate to treat BPH. It appears this treatment is effective for approximately a year and then must be repeated. This approach appeals to me because it is an elegant treatment that does not appear to irreversibly damage the prostate and leaves all natural structures fully intact. It also appears that the risk of incontinence, ED, etc.
Avatar m tn I underwent TURP on 11 th Feb for BPH and got discharged after 5 days after removal of catheter I am having a small flow of urine leaking in standing posture and walking mode. My urologist advised Kegel exercise which I am doing.
Avatar n tn I work out 4 to 5 times a week, and am in good physical condition. In August of last year, I had a sudden dramatic change in the volume of ejaculate and force behind it. Then within a few weeks started experiencing prostate pain. I visited my general practitioner, and he put me on an antibiotic for two weeks and fanasteride. He felt it was BPH. I did get some temporary relief after the antibiotic, but the pain soon returned and the ejaculate volumn never returned to normal.
Avatar m tn In a pharmacokinetic study, administration of a single 8 mg dose of silodosin with the potent CYP450 3A4 inhibitor ketoconazole (400 mg) resulted in a 3.8-fold increase in silodosin peak plasma concentration (Cmax) and a 3.2-fold increase in systemic exposure (AUC).
Avatar n tn All I have read points to Finasteride lessening the symptoms of BPH, symptoms I do not have. Is blood in the semen one of the symptoms of BPH? Finasteride also seems to have some side effects that I don't need or want. If the medication will help, I will just deal with the side effects to be rid of the problem, but I have my doubts. So, on to my question.
Avatar n tn I was cathetirized, and foley catheter was inserted. The doctor diagnosed my condition as BPH, and put me on 2 drugs (Folex and Avodart). After a week, the FC was removed. However, I still could not pass urine in the normal way (amount, flow etc.), and hence had to be recatheterized. I was on the re-inserted FC for a further 3 weeks, and it was removed yesterday.

Avatar n tn While I am not an expert in the use of this medication for the treatment of BPH, it seems that it is available as an over the counter supplement in parts of Europe. Evidently it is considered to be relatively safe, but as with all herbal medications, it should be used with caution. This herb may be contraindicated in individuals with active bleeding (eg, peptic ulcer, intracranial bleeding).

Avatar n tn Also, seek out a good Urologist you trust - and not one who just does that particular procedure, they’ll likely be biased in favor of it. Normally BPH isn’t an issue that requires immediate treatment so take your time making a decision about what’s right for you before you jump into smthg & have regrets down the road... Best of luck with this issue - please stay in touch & let us know what you decide or if you have further questions...
Avatar m tn I am 70 years old. Lost 14 pounds in last two years without much trying. Last year or so have weak urine stream, frequent urination as if I have BPH but my PSA has been only 1.03 for the last three years and the urologist told me today my prostate felt normal. He is sending me for kidney ultrasound and will do a cytoscopy to check my urethra and bladder. Sounds like a cyst or cancer?
Avatar n tn Often when I have a bowel movement it causes some blood to come out with my urine. I never have blood in my urine during any other time, and thus it seems that maybe there is something internal going on with the rectum possibly putting pressure on the bladder/prostate causing blood to come out. I've had a urine analysis done, but nothing came up as expected since it ONLY happens while I'm having a bowel movement. Do you know what this could be?
