Common Questions and Answers about Alfuzosin and psa

1580703 tn?1651904887 I was given cipro and Flomax for pelvic pain and a UTI. the pain was through the whole pelvis and also individual veins or spermatic cord. does Flomax permanently shrink your prostate or reduce testosterone levels? I read one forum where people where saying they had a permanent loss of strength, could not throw the discus as far?
Avatar m tn Available drugs include doxazosin, terazosin, alfuzosin and tamsulosin. Older drugs, phenoxybenzamine and prazosin are not recommended for treatment of BPH.[5] Alpha-blockers relax smooth muscle in the prostate and the bladder neck, and decrease the degree of blockage of urine flow. Alpha-blockers may cause ejaculation back into the bladder (retrograde ejaculation). The 5α-reductase inhibitors (finasteride and dutasteride) are another treatment option.
Avatar n tn 6, then repeat after 5 week, PSA come back 3.8, at the same time did free PSA, but fPSA is very low, and up %fPSA/PSA about 11%, and this may need biopsy. But as I mention, PSA shows so much difference in such a short time. What is his means and the if PSA and fPSA really correct or accurate? If hose test results can be trust to determine the biopsy. I read about tests, and all point cPSA id better than PSA, to calculate % to determine if biopsy really needed. Specailly if PSA is under 4.
Avatar m tn Dr performed a DRE and found a nodule, followed by an ultrasound and found calcifications. Volume was 27 (so PSAD around 14%?). Free PSA around .53 (ratio around 13%?). He opted not to biopsy but said follow-up in six months. I've seen that prostatitis and BPH can raise the PSA, but haven't read anything about calcifications causing the rise. Is he expecting the PSA to level off or decline in six months? 27 doesn't seem "enlarged" to me anyway.
Avatar f tn I finished 3 courses of antibiotics in last two months, levofloxasin, norfloxasin, and Cefixime. Then I showed to a urologist in the last week and he put me on 30 days course of Alfuzosin. Not sure if is the antibiotics or the Alfuzosin that has worked but I am feeling 90% better now but the frequent urination persists. Erection feels uncomfortable and still mild pain at the penis tip sometimes.
1846163 tn?1331048748 I am cures Ty on Vytorin and will be starting therapy soon, I have read that someone on a cholesterol lowering drug should not be on this drug. Can you tell me why?
Avatar m tn Thanks I got another psa and a free psa . Results psa 3.7 and free psa 17%. Psa up again and free psa should be 25% or higher. Not good enough to say no to biopsy. Scheduled for wed. With agleason of 7 what option did you take radical, seeds, radiation or other.
Avatar n tn My husband is 50, recent PSA was 4.1 and free PSA was 12%. MD has put him on Bactrim DS BID for ten days, then will repeat PSA and do a transrectal ultrasound. My husband is convinced this is cancer. What would be the next step?
Avatar m tn I am suffering from BPH for the last 4 years and I am taking DUTASTERIDE (AVODART) and Alfuzosin . Unfortunately , these meds do not help much since few months ago. I also about a new procedure named: gat-goren (GG), that sounds as non-pervasive. Did anyone hear about the GG procedure and can share experience or knowledge about that ?
Avatar n tn i did some research and found that if i had ejaculated within 48 hours of blood test that can elevate my PSA. I dont recall but might have had sex both nights before morning test. My two questions.. What are other possible reasons for high PSA other than cancer and which are the most common? Should Doctor have talked about the other possible reason rather than leave me and my family worried about a shortened lifetime on my part?
Avatar m tn My father found prostate cancer at 65 (12 years ago, the reason I started checking every year), had radiation and is alive with a .03 psa today at 76.
Avatar n tn By 8 to 10 weeks though, most of that inflammation should have subsided and your PSA level would not be affected. If there is doubt, you can repeat PSA in a couple weeks to verify the value.
5681515 tn?1372270707 Sept of 2011 my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer and a PSA of 5000. He was in extreme pain with Bone Metastasis. The treatments, cosadex and eligard injections gave him immediate results and eliminated all of his pain. During treatments PSA dropped to 0.3. Now his PSA is at 22.7 but without any physical symptoms.
Avatar f tn I am now 68 and I have had a hard prostate for the last 6 years with no symptoms but a rising PSA. 4 months ago my PSA was 10.8 now 4 months later it is 15.7 and still no symptoms. For 6 years each DRE has produced a hard prostate with rising PSA. If my prostate had cancer in it being hard for the last 6 years wouldn't there be some signs of prostate cancer other then rising PSA?
Avatar f tn My husband had a prostate MRI one week ago and the doctor's office called and set up an appointment for next week to, I suppose, reveal the results. I'm assuming if it were good news, he might have just said on the phone without an appointment. My question: is a prostate MRI sufficient to determine cancer or would a biopsy have to be the definitive answer? Can he say "it's cancer" and then set up a treatment plan or do we have one more step?
1550149 tn?1340000730 I know many people with dual or even triple diagnoses - RA and lupus, lupus and PsA, RA and fibromyalgia, etc. Whatever the diagnosis, though, the treatment for RA, PsA and lupus are nearly identical. So what label you stick on it is less important than what meds work for you to make you feel better and slow down or halt the disease progression.
Avatar n tn What is PSA density? For diagnosis, PSA+ free PSA is enough or cPSA+PSA is needed? Which one will be more accurate? Is Prostate enlargement mean DRE abnormal? Thank you in advance for your time and advise.
Avatar m tn Hello, Flomax is used for the treatment of BPH and if you are having side effects to this drug then you can use other alpha blockers like doxazosin, terazosin, alfuzosin or 5 alpha reductase inhibitors like finasteride and dutasteride. Effects may take longer to appear than alpha blockers, but they persist for many years. But they are available under prescription and should always be taken under a medical guidance. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar n tn I was read about PSA test fPSA and cPSA. My friend had PSA test for past few years since age of 49, PSA range 1.3-1.4. This year, PSA jump to 9.6, then repeat after 5 week, PSA come back 3.8, at the same time did free PSA, but fPSA is very low, end up %fPSA/PSA about 11%, and this may need biopsy. But as I mentioned, PSA shows so much difference in such a short time. What is his means and if PSA and fPSA really correct or accurate?
Avatar n tn The pain from chronic prostatitis can be relieved by NSAIDS (ibuprofen, naproxen) or alpha-blockers (flomax, terazosin). Have your PSA followed regularly and have your urologist follow PSA velocity, PSA density, and free PSA.
Avatar n tn As I mention, the newest repeat of PSA and fPSA show big difference again. PSA = 2.52, %fPSA = 8.79% (they use fPSA=0.25, but PSA=2.86). Why same blood sample, PSA test first, it was 2.52. But when test for calculate %fPSA, they use PSA=2.86 (test a bit later when test free PSA?) Now this PSA is lower again for, 3.83 2 weeks again. SO in a bout 7 weks, PSA were like 9.6 to 3.83 to 4.01 to 2.52. What are those data telling you? data not accurate? other health reason?
Avatar n tn Some alb may offer cPSA which direct measure bound PSA (related to cancer) but not measure total PSA and %free PSA, but most labs do not offer cPSA. There is a book - The complete prostate book, by J. Stephen Jones from Cleveland Clinic Foundation, describe all prostate issues and PSA test in details. Good luck for your PSA test, hope it will stable. And please keep us posted. The best regards.
