Avatar m tn The prescription drug Fosamax (the generic is alendronate sodium) is a medication which has been prescribed to hundreds of thousands of postmenopausal women to treat osteoporosis and help increase bone mass thereby reducing the chance of spinal or non-spinal fractures. Fosamax has also been prescribed to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis. Brand name Fosamax is manufactured in the United States by Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp., a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc.
Avatar f tn I took my first dose of Alendronate and then experience significant muscle pain for the next 4 days. Does anyone know if I should expect this to happen each time I take it or is it something to happen for the first few times until my body adjusts to the medicine?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar f tn But also if you are on osteoporosis medications currently, the medication you are taking could be causing your symptoms. Osteoporosis medications like Raloxifene (Evista), alendronate (Fosomax), risendronate (Actonel) and ibandronate (Boniva) all can cause flu like symptoms in individuals that are taking them. I am not sure what medications you are on, but this could be your problem.
Avatar m tn The authors examined the effects of high-dose oral alendronate (40 mg daily) for 6 months on 3 adult patients with intractable headache due to fibrous dysplasia of the skull. Each patient had disease processes not amenable to surgery. The patients underwent clinical follow-up at 1, 3, and 6 months. Their pain levels were documented at each visit by using a visual analog scale. All 3 patients demonstrated a significant decrease in pain levels and became independent of scheduled analgesics.
Avatar n tn We spoke with her doctor about possibly getting her on some medication, but he objected, saying that it would reduce her bone density. I do realize this is a possibility, but I was wondering if it would still be worth it, since she has been trying to lose weight for quite awhile now, and has been unable to. I would really like her to get her to her target weight as she is pre-diabetic (which she is being treated for).
Avatar f tn I am also taking Aromasin for bc. Stopped alendronate (I am osteopenic due to 30 yrs of prednisolone and Arimidex) in case this caused the oesophagitis. Would appreciate your advice.

Avatar f tn I'm new to this site. I was diagnosed hypothyroid eight months ago. At the time I didn't really have a lot of symptoms - before that, my doctor was investigating why my cholesterol level was so high, as my diet/weight etc are all pretty good. I spent six months trying to bring the cholesterol into the normal range - and succeeded (although it's still on the high side - the doc was happy) just by cutting down on dairy foods. When my TSH level was discovered to be 5.
Avatar n tn For my bones I take Calcium+vitamin D, and once weekly Novo Alendronate which is the equivalent of what you are taking now.My surgeon told me that it's very important for me to take Arimidex because it lessens considerably the estrogen that the body produces thus diminishing the chances of recurrence or developing a new tumor.Personally I would prefer not taking any drugs, but since I have very little side effects, I will continue taking this medication for the next 4 years.
Avatar f tn I have had Endoscopy and the result was just a Mild Gastritis therefore no medication was given. For the Barium Swallow test the result is negative, thank God. Last week I went to ENT and he gave me Dexamycim (eye drops) 2 drops in each nostril 3 x a day for 10 days to be followed afterwards with Avamys fluticasone furoate nasal spray suspension for 2 months.

Avatar f tn On December 1st, 2015, my mother at age 56, died unexpectedly. We are trying to find out why but maybe someone can give me some knowledge. On August 28th, she was admitted to hospital for chest pain. It was determined she had a pulmonary embolism and was started on warfarin and INR. At the same time the hospital ruled out CHF or any cardiac concern through a Pro-??? Test and a CAT with contrast and ecgs. In early November, it was discovered she had hypothyroidism and began thyroxine.
Avatar n tn s, but this has exponentially been exacerbated by Arimidex. For the past 2 yrs I have been taking a weekly bisphosphonate (Alendronate), plus twice daily Calcichew/Vit.D to help prevent further bone loss. Tamoxifen is prescribed for pre-menopausal patients, the AI's for post-menopausal. As I had a full hysterectomy some 19 yrs ago, I could go straight on to Arimidex.
