Common Questions and Answers about Alendronate heart

boniva

Avatar f tn I took my first dose of Alendronate and then experience significant muscle pain for the next 4 days. Does anyone know if I should expect this to happen each time I take it or is it something to happen for the first few times until my body adjusts to the medicine?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar m tn The prescription drug Fosamax (the generic is alendronate sodium) is a medication which has been prescribed to hundreds of thousands of postmenopausal women to treat osteoporosis and help increase bone mass thereby reducing the chance of spinal or non-spinal fractures. Fosamax has also been prescribed to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis. Brand name Fosamax is manufactured in the United States by Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp., a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc.
Avatar m tn The authors examined the effects of high-dose oral alendronate (40 mg daily) for 6 months on 3 adult patients with intractable headache due to fibrous dysplasia of the skull. Each patient had disease processes not amenable to surgery. The patients underwent clinical follow-up at 1, 3, and 6 months. Their pain levels were documented at each visit by using a visual analog scale. All 3 patients demonstrated a significant decrease in pain levels and became independent of scheduled analgesics.
Avatar f tn I am also taking Aromasin for bc. Stopped alendronate (I am osteopenic due to 30 yrs of prednisolone and Arimidex) in case this caused the oesophagitis. Would appreciate your advice.
Avatar f tn thankyou,i am with contact of my doctor ,he said there is no solution for damaged vertibras, but calcium and vitiman d and alendronate sodium/cholecaiciferol tablets will help spine and bones from further damages but what to do with prednisones i cant stop them because of asthma and taking of them will damage other bones isnt there any other solution instead of prednisones, i know there is nothing accept these because my doctor told me:(

Avatar f tn Osteoporosis medications like Raloxifene (Evista), alendronate (Fosomax), risendronate (Actonel) and ibandronate (Boniva) all can cause flu like symptoms in individuals that are taking them. I am not sure what medications you are on, but this could be your problem.
Avatar f tn She died that night in her sleep. The autopsy preliminary results are stating that her heart was 2-3x enlarged from normal, and that she showed signs of CHF including in her liver and kidneys. But no signs of clots or infection at all. Please help me understand!!!
Avatar n tn Based on information from a study in patients with early breast cancer, women with a history of blockages in heart arteries (ischemic heart disease) who take ARIMIDEX may have a slight increase in this type of heart disease compared to similar patients who take tamoxifen. ARIMIDEX can cause bone softening/weakening (osteoporosis) increasing the chance of fractures.
Avatar n tn Also, would it perhaps be possible to add some alendronate, or something else to help her bone density and still be able to benefit from the thyroid medication? Thank you so much!
Avatar n tn s, but this has exponentially been exacerbated by Arimidex. For the past 2 yrs I have been taking a weekly bisphosphonate (Alendronate), plus twice daily Calcichew/Vit.D to help prevent further bone loss. Tamoxifen is prescribed for pre-menopausal patients, the AI's for post-menopausal. As I had a full hysterectomy some 19 yrs ago, I could go straight on to Arimidex.
Avatar f tn Alendronate one tablet once a week for my Osteoporosis, Calcium 600 + D3 too. then I have Telfast 800 mg for my Allergie Rhinitis, Metformin 2 x a day 'cause I'm DM type 2, Simvastatin 10 mg - for cholesterol and Vit. E 400 IU. I took five years of Tamoxifen then changed to Femara because I have had Lumpectomy in September, 2003. Praise the Lord I am cancer free now. BTW I have also Rectozorin for my Hemorrhoid. It bleeds because I'm always constipated.
Avatar n tn 30+ yrs of steroids has thinned my bones significantly, so I was prescribed a bisphosphonate (Alendronate) alongside calcium (Calcichew) and Vitamin D3. My hair is a lot thicker now. You might wish to get tested for Vit.D as I understand that some 50% of the population who do not live in sunny climates, are deficient. Not sure if it affects the hair though. Try googling "hair loss vitamin D" and see what comes up.
712042 tn?1254569209 m ok now but not fine. I did not have any disease in my heart ( no heart attack, no clot, no valve problem, no stent to place or vessel to by-pass) but a rather new to medicine diagnosis of severe cardiac endothelial microvascular dysfunction otherwise know as cardiac syndrome X.
Avatar n tn my father having hernia problem, he had heart blockages too 90,99,90% we come to know in an geography, we don't want to do bypass sugary but want to do hernia operation whether it is suitable for him???
Avatar n tn What does it mean when you are randomly walking around or sitting even when your heart feels like it skips a beat and then tightens up intensely, not allowing any sort of semi-deep to deep breath, but rather only short choppy inhales at a time? It goes away in a range from 25 seconds up to a whole minute. It my variate each time. Any answers to this or experience, maybe to prevent it? Thank you!
Avatar f tn I don't think anyone can really answer this because obviously there is no 'normal' life. Normal to one person could be sitting on a stool all day playing guitar, while to someone else it could mean to do daily gardening or even playing golf. Normal for one person could be driving a truck while to another it could be riding a bicycle. I suppose normal could mean exist, but to exist you could just be laying in bed every day. So normal to each individual has different expectations.
Avatar n tn I had SVT (Supraventricular tachycardia) which is a fast heart rate. It makes you feel out of breath, like you might pass out, and like your running a marathon. I had it since I was a child and finally had heart ablation surgery to fix it. They do have meds that help control it. Usually beta blockers (blood pressure meds). I still have heart palps which feel like your heart is skipping beats but they are common and they tell me harmless.
Avatar f tn Is it possible for the heart to look completely normal in 6 week 8 week and 12 week scans then have an issue in the 19 week scan
