Avatar m tn The prescription drug Fosamax (the generic is alendronate sodium) is a medication which has been prescribed to hundreds of thousands of postmenopausal women to treat osteoporosis and help increase bone mass thereby reducing the chance of spinal or non-spinal fractures. Fosamax has also been prescribed to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis. Brand name Fosamax is manufactured in the United States by Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp., a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc.
Avatar f tn I took my first dose of Alendronate and then experience significant muscle pain for the next 4 days. Does anyone know if I should expect this to happen each time I take it or is it something to happen for the first few times until my body adjusts to the medicine?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar m tn The authors examined the effects of high-dose oral alendronate (40 mg daily) for 6 months on 3 adult patients with intractable headache due to fibrous dysplasia of the skull. Each patient had disease processes not amenable to surgery. The patients underwent clinical follow-up at 1, 3, and 6 months. Their pain levels were documented at each visit by using a visual analog scale. All 3 patients demonstrated a significant decrease in pain levels and became independent of scheduled analgesics.
Avatar n tn Hello. 11 months ago I was in a car accident and broke my left femur in 2 places (on the top by my pelvis and in the middle). After my first surgery, they put a titanium rod through my femur and a plate connecting the top of my femur with my pelvis. After about 5 months, my doctor told me the top of my femur was fully healed but the middle had stopped healing and he needed to go in and replace the rod with a bigger one to stimulate bone growth.
Avatar m tn Had a chiropractor adjust my sacroilliac joint by way of femur and now i'm having extreme pain on both sacroilliac joints. I am wondering if it's possible to reverse the adjustment? I contacted the doctor and here's what he wrote back... That was actually an adjustment for the sacro-iliac joint (the femur is just used to position that joint where it needs to be for the adjustment). Also I adjusted your lumbar vertebrae.
Avatar f tn all my measurements were near to 22.6 weeks..bt my femur length showed 22.0 dyas..is that ok...why my femur lags by 6 days...does anybody have ths kind of experience...
Avatar m tn As a result, I required nearly 10 hours of surgery to repair two badly broken legs and L forearm. During my recovery, my L femur was the most painful of my broken bones. However, since it healed, it has been the injury that has never caused any further issues/pain. Well, that is up until about 6 months ago when my femur started aching. Over the past few months, it has progressed to aching pretty much constantly.
Avatar n tn However, one more step to go and I fell forward landing on my left side and shattered left femur just below the femur ball that fits in the hip socket. After surgery went through a month of in-patient therapy and several months of in-home therapy. Was progressing but still experienced pain at point of shatter (not hip). Also noticed that my left leg was getting shorter (had extra sole added to left shoe twice and within a month or two limp returned).
Avatar f tn My u/s measurements state that,my femur length is off from the rest everything was at 16wks except femur length was 14wk5days what's wrong with,my baby has this happened to anyone
Avatar f tn I broke my femur and had a rod placed in 99 and removed in 07. Now my femur comes out of socket all the time. It's very painful.
Avatar f tn I had an US yesterday she was measuring ,by her femur, a week earlier than I thought I was. Does this mean she is actually 31 weeks instead of 30? Any help is appreciated!
Avatar n tn My left femur bows and even takes a twist AND makes it shorter than my right femur. I had surgery at 14, tumor was benign, and they put staples in all of my growth plates in my right knee (to let the left catch up) and stables in 1 side of my right knee to try and even out my left femur. Since I have been fine however I get the basic arthritis in the cold, etc along with my left knee not lining up right it bugs me. My question is, I am 28 now, things have changed since then.
Avatar f tn My mum broke her femur and and one of the bones in her hip about 2.5 years ago when she fell crossing the road. She had a titanium nail inserted and screws at the top of the femur and knee. She now walks with a stick and her mobility is very limited dud to the pain she is suffering in her knee, leg and hip. I don't understand why the metalwork has not been removed as I think this might remove the pain. I also broke my femur one month after my mum in a skiing accident.
Avatar f tn ll get to that later), a brain injury, and an open fracture to my femur. I now have a titanium rod along my femur. However, because of a leg length discrepancy prior to the injury, when the surgeons measured my right femur to determine how long the rod should be, the rod in my left leg is at least 1/2 an inch too long. Now, I have significant pain in my hip.
Avatar m tn Does any one know anybody who has had a titanium rod in their femur for more than 25 years? When I was 17 years old I got hit by a car and it broke my femur in the middle into two pieces. I am 44 years old now and the rod is giving me all sorts of trouble. It's hurt for about 25 out of the 26, but, lately it's starting to affect my hips, knees, and ankles. What happened is that the head of the femur is overgrown and it rubs against my skin.
359668 tn?1201448273 My baby girl also has shorter femur about 1 week behind. But my doc told me that is genetic. I`m 5`3 and my husband is 5`7 and we both have short legs and long body. Also girls are smaller then boys.
Avatar f tn When I was 31 y.o. I had an accident that left me w/ a broken femur ... leading up to days later a “ titanium rod “ being inserted into the broken femur . The initial days , etc. obvious moments of pain happened , over the years since then w/ the break eventually being healed = very ..,... minimal pain . In getting older = 64 y.o. now within the past couple of years thereabouts pain is reaccuring more & more , causing pain also in my hips and other leg .
Avatar m tn i went for an ultrasound scan on 23.08.2011 and said that femur length of the baby was shorter for two weeks and suggested for a second opinion. in the next scan also it was revealed that length was shorter for 3 weeks on 02.09.2011. wat it mean/ is it sign for hadicapped or any abnormality in baby. Now the baby was 30 weeks. the weight is 1098 grms. I am worrying a lot about that. any problem.
Avatar m tn I had an Intramedullary rod installed in my left femur on 20/06/2016. the screw in my lower left femur sticks out one the outer left knee about half an inch and will lock my IT band and cause extreme pain in my lower knee just left of the patella. Is it normal for the screw to stick out about half an inch and if not can the surgeon put in a smaller screw?
Avatar f tn I am also taking Aromasin for bc. Stopped alendronate (I am osteopenic due to 30 yrs of prednisolone and Arimidex) in case this caused the oesophagitis. Would appreciate your advice.
Avatar n tn I fractured my femur (comminuted - open fracture) 4 years ago in a car accident. I have had an intramedullary nail in for the whole time (changed once) and 5 operations in total, including 2 bone grafts onto the fracture site. The situation now is that I am in a little pain (mainly due to a 1 inch shortening of the leg), but overall not in a bad position (i go cycling and am reasonably active). However, xrays show that the bone is still not united - see photo.
