Avatar f tn I took my first dose of Alendronate and then experience significant muscle pain for the next 4 days. Does anyone know if I should expect this to happen each time I take it or is it something to happen for the first few times until my body adjusts to the medicine?
Avatar m tn The authors examined the effects of high-dose oral alendronate (40 mg daily) for 6 months on 3 adult patients with intractable headache due to fibrous dysplasia of the skull. Each patient had disease processes not amenable to surgery. The patients underwent clinical follow-up at 1, 3, and 6 months. Their pain levels were documented at each visit by using a visual analog scale. All 3 patients demonstrated a significant decrease in pain levels and became independent of scheduled analgesics.
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar f tn Damage to the spine is a common side-effect of long-term steroidal use. That is why asthma treatment nowadays uses low-dose inhaled steroids, rather than oral steroids, which are systemic. Opiates don't work too well for spinal pain because the problem is glial cell stimulation which don't have opiate receptors. You need to get a consult with a pain specialist. Ask them about using transdermal lidocaine patches or an electrical TENS device.
Avatar m tn The prescription drug Fosamax (the generic is alendronate sodium) is a medication which has been prescribed to hundreds of thousands of postmenopausal women to treat osteoporosis and help increase bone mass thereby reducing the chance of spinal or non-spinal fractures. Fosamax has also been prescribed to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis. Brand name Fosamax is manufactured in the United States by Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp., a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc.
Avatar f tn I am also taking Aromasin for bc. Stopped alendronate (I am osteopenic due to 30 yrs of prednisolone and Arimidex) in case this caused the oesophagitis. Would appreciate your advice.
Avatar f tn Osteoporosis medications like Raloxifene (Evista), alendronate (Fosomax), risendronate (Actonel) and ibandronate (Boniva) all can cause flu like symptoms in individuals that are taking them. I am not sure what medications you are on, but this could be your problem.
Avatar f tn It is not possible to say without seeing your mother's medical records, but it sounds as though something was missed or overlooked in your mother's first hospital visit. That mixed and contradictory non-diagnosis is just strange and needs to be explained. Still, it doesn't sound as though she was dangerously ill at this time. The next thing you describe is hypothyroidism, which was treated with thyroxine, to which your mother responded "quickly.
Avatar n tn Also, would it perhaps be possible to add some alendronate, or something else to help her bone density and still be able to benefit from the thyroid medication? Thank you so much!

Avatar f tn It looks like taking too much might be a bad idea if you have kidney problems. Well , here is what they see as a safe dose and some possible drug interactions: Adult •Adolescent and adult males: 270 - 400 mg daily •Adolescent and adult females: 280 - 300 mg daily •Pregnant females: 320 mg daily •Breastfeeding females: 340 - 335 mg daily A person' s need for magnesium increases during pregnancy, recovery from surgery and illnesses, and athletic training.
Avatar n tn s, but this has exponentially been exacerbated by Arimidex. For the past 2 yrs I have been taking a weekly bisphosphonate (Alendronate), plus twice daily Calcichew/Vit.D to help prevent further bone loss. Tamoxifen is prescribed for pre-menopausal patients, the AI's for post-menopausal. As I had a full hysterectomy some 19 yrs ago, I could go straight on to Arimidex.
Avatar m tn In reality that is the dose exposed to at the skin on the beam side, and the dose decreases with tissue depth as some of the radiation is absorbed at each level as it penetrates tissue and is therefore gone and cannot expose the deeper tissues. Many people don't understand this, but tissues actually absorb radiation, and only a small % of the radiation exits the body to form the image. Say 100% radiation enters the skin, maybe a few percent leaves on the backside.
Avatar f tn Alendronate one tablet once a week for my Osteoporosis, Calcium 600 + D3 too. then I have Telfast 800 mg for my Allergie Rhinitis, Metformin 2 x a day 'cause I'm DM type 2, Simvastatin 10 mg - for cholesterol and Vit. E 400 IU. I took five years of Tamoxifen then changed to Femara because I have had Lumpectomy in September, 2003. Praise the Lord I am cancer free now. BTW I have also Rectozorin for my Hemorrhoid. It bleeds because I'm always constipated.
Avatar f tn A quarter grain is a very conservative dose, but I could be more specific if you post the lab work that led to her decision (with reference ranges from your own lab report, please). "She is also waiting 6 weeks to recheck and then only doing TSH as she says I don't need the T3 and T4 checked anymore since surgery." Six weeks is too long when actively adjusting meds. Four weeks is plenty of time. She's dead wrong about just testing TSH.
480035 tn?1222366164 Tommorrow try doing 6 mgs in the AM then 4 mgs in the afternoon, if you still feel thats not enough, try another 2 mgs. That would be a total of 12 mgs for the day. Once you get you dose right, stay on that for about 5-7 days then start dropping down til you get to about 4-6 mgs and level off at that for awhile.
Avatar f tn i am a non responder, after 2 previous tratments with other interferons, now after having a liver biopsy my dr wants me to go on pegasys with copegus, he wants to prescribe the 180mcg/0.5ml shot along which is prefilled but he wants me to take some of the other prefilled shot which would make it more than the normal 180 mcg. i did not ask him exactly how much it will total cause i have doubts about this,i have never heard of this. and may just stick with the 180 once a week.
220090 tn?1379167187 Does anyone have an opinion on Peg dose reduction for neutrophil of 650? I have a friend that is experiencing this and being told to reduce peg. I seem to remember that mine dropped once and my doc said not to reduce. Personally, I think dose reduction within the first three months of treatment is to be avoided except for very serious side effects.
