Avatar f tn I took my first dose of Alendronate and then experience significant muscle pain for the next 4 days. Does anyone know if I should expect this to happen each time I take it or is it something to happen for the first few times until my body adjusts to the medicine?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar m tn The prescription drug Fosamax (the generic is alendronate sodium) is a medication which has been prescribed to hundreds of thousands of postmenopausal women to treat osteoporosis and help increase bone mass thereby reducing the chance of spinal or non-spinal fractures. Fosamax has also been prescribed to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis. Brand name Fosamax is manufactured in the United States by Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp., a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc.
Avatar m tn The authors examined the effects of high-dose oral alendronate (40 mg daily) for 6 months on 3 adult patients with intractable headache due to fibrous dysplasia of the skull. Each patient had disease processes not amenable to surgery. The patients underwent clinical follow-up at 1, 3, and 6 months. Their pain levels were documented at each visit by using a visual analog scale. All 3 patients demonstrated a significant decrease in pain levels and became independent of scheduled analgesics.
1140169 tn?1370185076 The single ingredient supplement found OTC is D3-cholecalciferol-and the comparable Rx supplement is D2-ergocalciferol. No matter which OTC brand you may choose, it will always be D3. This is also the compound for which our cells have a greater affinity, therefore we can take lower doses to raise our 25(OH)D levels. D3 is naturally derived from animal sources, while D2 is a synthetic analog. For a more in depth explaination, please look to sites like vitamindcouncil.org.
666921 tn?1254990618 Chronically ill people have to avoid both, but can return to moderate sun exposure once they are recovered. Vitamin D (cholecalciferol, D3) supplementation and excessive sun exposure is the biggest failure in modern medicine/culture in my opinion. It would be like taking 5-30 mgs a day of Prednisone everyday of your life, you may feel better when you get more steroids in your system, but it brings down the defense of the innate immune system.
382218 tn?1341181487 The purpose of this study is to determine the safety and the immunologic effects of supplementation with low-dose and high-dose cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) in patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis." http:// clinicaltrials.gov /ct2/show/NCT01024777?
Avatar f tn I am also taking Aromasin for bc. Stopped alendronate (I am osteopenic due to 30 yrs of prednisolone and Arimidex) in case this caused the oesophagitis. Would appreciate your advice.
Avatar f tn thankyou,i am with contact of my doctor ,he said there is no solution for damaged vertibras, but calcium and vitiman d and alendronate sodium/cholecaiciferol tablets will help spine and bones from further damages but what to do with prednisones i cant stop them because of asthma and taking of them will damage other bones isnt there any other solution instead of prednisones, i know there is nothing accept these because my doctor told me:(

Avatar f tn Osteoporosis medications like Raloxifene (Evista), alendronate (Fosomax), risendronate (Actonel) and ibandronate (Boniva) all can cause flu like symptoms in individuals that are taking them. I am not sure what medications you are on, but this could be your problem.

Avatar m tn I have had an allergic reaction to D3 made from Cholecalciferol. Most Cholecalciferol seems to come from sheep lanolin (a wool derivative), so it's possible I have an allergy to that. I did find a brand of D3 made from fish oil that doesn't cause an allergic reaction in me. It is made by Solgar.
Avatar m tn @Quincyw33 10,000 is not too much... you may want to go back on many studies here on this group that suggest 10,000 IU daily. 1,000 IU is not nearly enough for people on meds and with Chronic Hep B. There's specific reasons on this. Maybe you were misreading it here, but I am almost certain @stef2011 has had many comments and articles and such about 10,000 IU. Personaly, 5,000- 10,000 IU would be good.
Avatar f tn The treatment for severe vitamin D deficiency is INACTIVE vitamin D (cholecalciferol), at high doses (intially 50.000 UI/week during 2-4 weeks and then 25.000 UI/15 days=1.600 UI/day). Please don't take ACTIVE vitamina D (calcitriol) unless hypoparathyroidism is really and correctly diagnosed.
Avatar n tn --------- My endo recommended the vitamin D medicine cholecalciferol. All of the cholecalciferol products that I found contain calcium or soy (another substance that could mess with thyroid functions). I asked the endo whether there was any cholecalciferol product that did not contain calcium or soy, and the endo said that he did not know. But perhaps there is a vitamin D product that does not contain cholecalciferol at all.
Avatar n tn Also, would it perhaps be possible to add some alendronate, or something else to help her bone density and still be able to benefit from the thyroid medication? Thank you so much!
