Alendronate bone pain

Common Questions and Answers about Alendronate bone pain

fosamax

Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar m tn Fibrous dysplasia of the bone in adults is a rare anomaly of skeletal development caused by a defect in differentiation of osteoblasts. This condition is associated with bone pain, bone deformity, and an increased incidence of fracture. Involvement of the skull is associated with headache along with dysmorphic features. Until recently, the principal treatment has been resection or fracture repair, although the latter is often palliative at best.

Avatar f tn I took my first dose of Alendronate and then experience significant muscle pain for the next 4 days. Does anyone know if I should expect this to happen each time I take it or is it something to happen for the first few times until my body adjusts to the medicine?
Avatar n tn if the mechanism of action is to decrease osteoclasts (thereby dead bone cells are not removed) - is this helpful to have denser bones made of dead bone tissue? I am thinking it may be better to increase calcium, improve general mineral, Vit D nutrition and get another bone density test as opposed to taking biphosphonates. If my bone density doesn't improve then I will consider taking it for up to 5 years.
Avatar n tn However, 4 yrs down the line, I stopped it 4 weeks ago, due to severe bone pain (hips, hands and feet) and the pain has gone! I still feel I need protection for at least another year so am seeing a new Oncologist (mine retired last year) soon for evaluation and hope she will prescribe either Femara or Aromasin. All the AI's affect bone density, tamoxifen doesn't and before starting one of these you should have a DEXA bone density scan for a baseline. It is a difficult decision I know.
Avatar f tn Basically, in normal bone bone formation and bone resorption are closely coupled. When the rate of resorption exceeds the rate of formation there is a decrease in bone mass. The amount of bone necessary to mechanically support the skeleton eventually falls below the fracture threshold. There are many degrees of osteoporosis and treatments available. I am not qualified to suggest a specific treatment.
Avatar n tn Also, would it perhaps be possible to add some alendronate, or something else to help her bone density and still be able to benefit from the thyroid medication? Thank you so much!
Avatar n tn In the early breast cancer clinical trial, the most common side effects seen with ARIMIDEX include hot flashes, joint symptoms (including arthritis and arthralgia), weakness, mood changes, pain, back pain, sore throat, nausea and vomiting, rash, depression, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, fractures, swelling of arms/legs, insomnia, and headache. Patients taking ARIMIDEX were less likely than those taking tamoxifen to stop treatment because of side effects.

Avatar f tn I presume that you are on prednisones for your severe asthma. If you are worried that using this has damaged your bones, you should speak to your doctor about this. If may be that you need to have calcium and Vitamin D (this helps the body to absorb calcium) replacement. Do not stop taking the prednisones until you speak with your doctor. The damage to your 3 vertebrae may just be coincidental. Make an appointment with your doctor and discuss your concerns with him. Hope you get on OK.
Avatar f tn If you are taking pain reliever and have taken antibiotics and you are having a reoccuring fever of 99.9 F or more, then this could indeed be a problem. The only way to know if it is viral or you need an antibiotic is for the doctor to run some blood tests to see if your body is fighting off any illnesses. But also if you are on osteoporosis medications currently, the medication you are taking could be causing your symptoms.
Avatar f tn On August 28th, she was admitted to hospital for chest pain. It was determined she had a pulmonary embolism and was started on warfarin and INR. At the same time the hospital ruled out CHF or any cardiac concern through a Pro-??? Test and a CAT with contrast and ecgs. In early November, it was discovered she had hypothyroidism and began thyroxine. This medication worked quickly.

Avatar f tn Could bone pain be related to Fibro or CFS? I have constant bone pain in my legs, but my doctor says I'm fine. He said it might just be my CFS (I don't have a Fibro dx), but he seemed to brush it off.
Avatar f tn Since the big leg bones produce most of the hemoglobin, I suspect the pain was due to the production of Hgb. My bone pain was modest and resolved itself in a few days. Bone pain can be a severe side effect and should be reported to your doctor. Good luck!

987242 tn?1335490770 Okay I do not believe I have Leukemia, but every time I look up this symptom I find Leukemia. I am hoping to get the bottom of my problems and would like to ensure that bone pain is the best description for what is occurring to me. I have two types of pain that seems to come from my bones or at the very least very deep in the muscle. One is a aching that leaves my legs feeling extremely cold. To the point of me laying in very hot water to try and get some warmth.
Avatar f tn One more thing, your bone pain might not last long. Sides tend to come and go. I was happy the bone pain wasn't a long lasting side for me. Best of luck.
Avatar n tn A few weeks ago, I fell asleep and about 2 hours later I woke up and had excruciating pain in my right shoulder. I also have pain in my left hip. It is a burning sensation centered in the joint. It I did nothing out of the ordinary, I didn't fall or injure myself in anyway.
Avatar f tn Can anyone tell me how to tell the difference between muscle pain and bone pain?
