Common Questions and Answers about Alcohol abuse effects on the body

alcohol

Avatar f tn The time your body takes to recover from alcohol abuse varies with the individual. It also depends on the length of time that you abused alcohol and the quantity of alcohol that you were consuming daily. It sounds like your symptoms are WD symptoms from quitting consumption of alcohol. The best thing is to find some OTC remedies for your symptoms and tough it out. Check the health pages on this site and other posts for specific OTC help for your WD symptoms.
Avatar m tn Wow that is a heavy duty question.......the risk of sudden death and arrythmias due from alcohol abuse are fairly remote however you have to remember that with overdoing it with the alcohol which is a depressive causes your whole system to slow down and depress everything in your body....
Avatar f tn My question is this I have a history of alcohol abuse, it started about 12 years ago when I had my child, I met a guy (who I spent 10 years with), could never get a babysitter so he started bringing beer into the house (only ever drank when I went out prior to this) after a year we were drinking a full bottle of scotch together every night,I had a very highly paid job god only knows how I kept it without being dicovered, after 10 years I left him tried to make a new start abroad it went wrong I
Avatar m tn Welcome to the forum.. Yes Alcohol affects the heart it effects all of our organs. Alcohol is probably 1 of the most caustic thing we can put in our body. Here is just a small piece I copied on 1 type of heart issue related to alcohol. Alcoholic cardiomyopathy is a form of heart disease caused by alcohol abuse. Long-term alcohol abuse weakens and thins the heart muscle. The damaged muscle cannot pump blood as it should, which deprives the body tissues of oxygen.
Avatar f tn We are not doctors here so not sure. But this sounds like a big concern. You need to talk to a professional right away. Abuse is never okay, even when a person has an illness. Also drinking and medication do not mix well and often when people are ill they may use drugs or alcohol to self-medicate.
Avatar n tn After a night of heavy drinking (to the level of losing conciousness) You will smell the alcohol over the next 24 hours as the body detoxes itself. The alcohol is released from the body through the pores of the skin (in addition to "regular" elimination). She drinks to the point of unconciousness because her body is taking in more alcohol than it can process. This is really like "alcohol poisoning".
Avatar n tn What I read on your post describes alcohol withdrawal's physical effects. With alcohol use, it's more about tolerance of certain amounts. What may be a lot for one person isn't or is a lot for another. It's a lot for your husband, from the sounds of it, since he experiences tremors and black outs (not recalling conversations, how he got somewhere, etc.).
Avatar f tn Pancreatitis often turns into the gift that keeps on giving and becomes a horribly painful, chronic condition. Alcohol abuse is a common cause of pancreatitis and any doctor will tell you that alcohol has to go out of your life forever or you risk another acute attack. Alcohlic hepatitis is another condition high on the list of suspects. Binge drinking can be just as harmful as drinking every day and there's no way to tell who will develop life-threatening problems from it.
1563920 tn?1299288683 If you look at my past posts, I have been dealing with neurological issues for some time now. I have been very depressed about everything, from having to quit nursing to my inability to work and drive. During this time, I have been turning to alcohol to kind of deal with my problems, not such a good idea, I know!!! It hadn't seemed to be a problem until last night. A group of my friends, including my boyfriend, went out for my birthday.
Avatar f tn Also, when I drink the night before I will drink the next day and then again in the evening. Sometimes this goes on all weekend. My health issues are as follows: I feel like I constantly have bugs crawling on me. My skin is always itchy My gums bleed There is something going on in my mind. I obsess over certain sounds or pictures and they make me feel almost manic in a sense. I am developing red spots all over my stomach and they are moving to my neck and arms. - they are not itchy.
Avatar m tn I made it my business to learn, to know, to understand all that I could about drug/alcohol use/abuse and the DAMAGE it wreaks on the user - and the heartbreak and heartache of everyone who loves the user.
Avatar m tn I am so glad that you have finally come to a realization that alcohol abuse is truly poisonous to your body. It leaches vitamins and nutrients out of you and damages your central nervous system. That is why I always suggest that alcohol detox take place in a hospital under medical supervision. You need to be on medication such as benzodiazapines to prevent seizures and have IV vitamin supplementation, especially thiamine, among others. Please do not take this advise lightly.
Avatar n tn and my step mom said there is no alcohol in the house. so he definetly was not mixing alcohol with the meds. i know he is on plavix or something like that. and some anti psycotic pills (for the seizures) i think. i will get more info tonight. my step mom is hard to talk to . super sweet but not the brightest bulb...
Avatar n tn Furthermore, the mixture of both antibiotics and alcohol can also have some additional negative effects on the body. Alcohol and the Effectiveness of Antibiotics Alcohol does not effect the effectiveness of the majority of antibiotics. However, antibiotics within the tetracycline group, including doxycycline, are hindered by alcohol. If alcohol is consumed while taking a tetraycycline antibiotic, the antibiotic may prove to be less effective at treating the bacteria or virus.
Avatar n tn Hte night went by and eventually I passed out. I was fine next day, but I started worrying about the effects and what damage I may have done. I couldn't sleep the next couple days, and now I been having severe anxiety due to the fact of a nagging headache that wont go away thinking I may have screwed up something in my brain.
199177 tn?1490498534 Tramadol may also cause serious or fatal side effects in a newborn if the mother uses the medication during pregnancy or labor. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Tramadol can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Tramadol should not be given to a child younger than 18 years of age. Tramadol may be habit-forming.
Avatar f tn Another aspect that needs consideration is the extent of that particular person’s chemical dependency. Everyone’s body reacts differently to the effects of alcohol; therefore, it is hard to conclude how long recovery will take. Heavy drinkers who have a history of dependency usually experience the worst withdrawal symptoms. There are many different types of symptoms that can present themselves. The symptoms can range from mild to even life threatening.
Avatar m tn I've been drinking once maybe twice a week for 4 yrs..approx 1liter/ to3/4 of a bottle of Vodka each time.
Avatar m tn Alcohol increases the acid in your stomach. The irritating effects of alcohol may cause gastritis (inflammation of the lining of the stomach), pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), or a peptic ulcer (a raw area in the lining of the stomach or intestines). Alcohol can also damage your small intestine and keep it from absorbing nutrients. Alcohol can keep you from getting deep sleep, which may mean a less restful night's sleep. Also, drinking alcohol can make insomnia worse.
1621722 tn?1333050499 Welcome to the forum. None of us are qualified to give you any sort of diagnosis, especially online. If you're using alcohol as a way to deal with anxiety and depression, you could be heading down a slippery slope. It already sounds as though you need to figure out exactly how bad your "problem" with alcohol is...and the sooner the better, before it gets any worse.
1346046 tn?1297156080 This was diagnosed in 1996 after I was unable to urinate without a catheter. I have a neurological condition that effects the nerves in the bladder sphyncters. Over use of alcohol can also effect the nervous system. Another thing that could be possible is that due to drinking lots the bladder has been stretched over time. This could also give a problem of incomplete voiding.
