My question is why would I get blisters a second time in 2 weeks? Since it is a weekend, should I start the Acyclovir again, and can it do me any harm if I do? Being a weekend, I can't get in touch with the physician, and I now have 2 opposing medical opinions, from my physician to stop the Acyclovir, and one from the physician at the urgent care clinic on 8/26 to start the medication again. even shingles would've responded to acyclovir. also typically they also test for shingles when they do the herpes lesion culture. if they didn't , your provider can call and ask them if they still have the culture in the lab to do so.
how long has this been going on?
a pelvic shingles outbreak would not cause symptoms in your arms too.
did your provider also swab this rash for bacteria too?
time for a trip to the dermatologist monday if at all possible.
the initial time/diagnosis... yes... when i had them else where on my body. however, i used them all.
the pills i had/have at the moment, were for my wife... she has hsv2. i took her pills. i have time to see a MD, just no money/insurance... hence, i am asking here.
Unfortunately it will last for a month after you start your meds. You should see another doctor because if in fact you have shingles, it's a virus like the chicken pox, and antibotics won't do anything. You need a viral med. I was prescribed valtrex. Yes, it's the common herpes mediciation but what most people don't know is that chicken pox and shingles and a form of herpes. Don't worry though it's not an STD.
They seem to be going away slowly. Minor pain in back muscle. I did not take acyclovir. Is it too late to start now? I feel lightheaded all the time, was wondering what was wrong with me.. could it be from the shingles?? Maybe I should start meds. Don't know. Second time I have had it. First time in 1989 was not stressed at all. This time was very stressed.
She first suggested shingles so gave me the acyclovir and also tested for HIV to see if my immune system was compromised- that came back clear. She then said it wasn't shingles because it happens most months and also happens in the exact same place which cold sores would do. She also said menstruation is a common trigger.
I find it odd that she hasn't tested me but have started the acyclovir - should I go back and ask for a test?
I was diagnosed with shingles in my right ear two months ago. I was perscribed steroids and acyclovir which, initially, worked well to relieve the pain. About 3 weeks ago both my eyes, and the areas around them such as the lids and the areas that makeup my eye socket , started itching severely. Today the same aweful pain I had in my ear in a few months ago has come back. I can't see a doctor for 3 days......and the pain is getting worse.
I have had two outbreaks of Shingles, herpes zoster. My first was when I was in my early 20s and was on my stomach and back on my right side. The second case was last year, age 42, and was on my shoulder, neck, and face right side. This was very uncomfortable and lasted for about 6 months.
I did some research and found out about the immunization, zostavax, for shingles.
My question -
1) The handbook said zostavax is for people over age 60.
I went to see a doctor, who prescribed me acyclovir. It in fact worked very well and the rashes were gone in a week after i started taking the medicines. I read that shingles is mostly common in those who are above 50 years old, with HIV, or it may also cause because of stress. It freaked me out cause I am just 28 years old, so i went for HIV testing and it was negative.
My son had the same exact reaction after taking acyclovir... Except he was on it bc of a misdiagnosis. It will be 2 years in July and his spasms have never stopped. His life has been drastically changed and has not been able to return to school. I would really like to know what happened with your father and if he recovered.

After partying to hard (only drinking & smoking cig) one weekend this past summer, I developed a case of Shingles on the side of my chest. I'm mid 20s in age. Additionally, my Dermatologist prescribed Acyclovir 800mg x5 Daily for 1 week.
When I began taking the medication is when things got a little weird.
The first 48 hours, I felt amazing !
It had nothing to do with my cancer, as I am in Ned. Sorry you have to deal with the shingles. As far as I am aware..Shingles stays in spinal fluid after childhood chicken pox, I was told I did not have a severe enough case of the "pox" to clear it out entirely. Stress only makes it worse, so I hope you can relax.
As to where my shingles occured? once around rib cage, and twice around shoulder, and down my arm.
The doctor thought it might be shingles or a herpes outbreak! She put me on 800 mg of Acyclovir 5 times a day. I have had 9 doses and it seems to be getting worse not better. I have had bumps come up and form blisters within just a few hours today. HELP!!! I have been around about 100 kids under 5 over the past month and at least 2 of them have been diagnosed with chicken pox, which I had as a child and I had the shot... Could this be herpes or is there another explanation?

Shingles (Herpes Zoster) is caused by varicella zoster virus (responsible for causing chicken pox also). Shingles does not occur in the genital areas.
However, a virus belonging to the same family, herpes simplex virus can cause genital herpes involving labia, which is a common and highly contagious disease transmitted from one person to the other through sexual activity.
I've on acyclovir for shingles prevention and had a one night stand 14 weeks ago. I had a blood test at the 7 week mark and it was negative. When should I have my next blood test to be sure I'm negative.

HIV test results overrule everything else: symptoms, exposure history, shingles, herpes or anything else. Your negative HIV test proves you did not acquire HIV during the exposure 4.5 months earlier. There are no exceptions. I'll also add that shingles is not an HIV indicator. It's more common in people with AIDS than others, but it's an everyday disease that occurs very commonly in the general population. My son and I both had it, for example.
If you really want to know, best to get it cultured. Acyclovir will help clear it up. Herpes zoster or shingles only breaks out a maximum of 3 times in your life if you get it. You can get it at an early age but usually you get after 50 and more likely after 60. And, yes do not kiss anyone when you have it until the blister goes away. Over the counter meds not work very well. They will work for a short time then the virus gets resistant to them.
