Common Questions and Answers about Actos and weight loss

actos

2053416 tn?1330411192 Due to a lot of weight gain. My doctor took me off actos and put me on glumetza. I also take glipizide. The gulmetza does not seem to be working for me. My sugars are in the 200 + - range. Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. I am really thinking about asking the doctor to put me back on insulin (novolin R). Thank you for your input.
923105 tn?1341827649 A fasting blood sugar of 100 or less is not an impossible goal. Keep up the work on weight loss, lowering carbs, and some regular exercise; even just walking helps with blood sugar control. Keep up the good work!
Avatar f tn I am a 66 y/o newly diagnosed diabetic. Went to hospital with chest pains and found out I was diabetic. Miraculously no damage done to eyes, feet, kidneys but discovered a heart anomaly. I started out at 254 lbs and I dieted all last year and was unsuccessful with losing weight. On Dec 5 my doctor prescribed Metformin 1500 mg at night, but I have been taking in the morning.
1236243 tn?1277680851 See this link for FDA issued warnings on Actos and Avandia http://diabetes.niddk.nih.gov/dm/pubs/medicines_ez/insert_J.aspx Kinda makes you wonder if it's time to leave the sinking ship.
Avatar m tn Yes, a fasting of 188-200 is much too high for fasting and you need those numbers down. 2 1/2 weeks sounds long for the cortisone to be affecting your blood sugar. What are your post prandial (2 hours after meal) numbers like. I would call your doctor and ask him how long he thinks this will continue and what to do next. You don't want to remain that high that long. I would restrict your intake of carbs to assist your blood sugar coming down.
Avatar n tn So the more fat cells you have in your body, the higher your blood sugar levels. If you lose excess weight and keep it off, you have a much better chance at avoiding diabetes than if you let the weight creep up, even if you ARE eating properly.
Avatar n tn So your taking insulin (Knowing what kind of insulin is just as important as knowing a how much) AND Actos? Usually when a person goes on Insulin they drop the actos.
Avatar m tn try to get exercise everyday, atleast 30 minutes/day for 5 days a week, and try to lose some weight(both through exercise and most importantly dietary changes). A nutritionist can be great in helping figure out a diet plan that cuts calories but still remains balanced and healthy, or you can try programs like Weight watchers. Good luck, congratulations to you and your wife on your new little one, and take care of yourself.
Avatar n tn Is it best to take actos in the morning or evening? I am on metformin and glipized, as well. Is it best to take actos along with these medications to be more effective? This discussion is related to Best time to take meds.
Avatar f tn If you have pcos, your doctor might need to put you on Metformin to help with the symptoms and weight loss. I'm not sure if your ovulating. The only way to tell for sure is to get a blood test at cd21 to confirm if you have ovulated. I suggest to speak with your doctor and ask him/her about metformin to help with your pcos. I've been on this since 9/14/08 and have lost over 60lbs. It is also known that it could help improve your cycles over time.
Avatar f tn Hi all, My hubby was dx'ed 2 weeks ago w/ diabetes II. His regular doc put him on 30 mg Actos daily. At 1st hubby's blood sugar was a whopping 390- now it's down to 76-90 in the am and no more than 180 even after lots of sugary food. Obviously the blood sugar is well under control now. The problem is, my husband's vision is going crazy! I know that diabetes can cause vision problems when blood sugar is high, but the way it's happening doesn't make sense.
Avatar m tn Anyway, my blood glucose used to be around the 140 mark then I started taking Actos 30 mg mg., I now take ONLY take 15 mg and my fasting blood sugar is around 110 to 115. I also barely eat in the morning - a cup of yogart and a banana for breakfast, a small turkey sandwhich for lunch. Afternoon I feel I'm having a hypglycemic attack so I have some cookies and coffee or tea (I need the caffeine- I'm dying from fatigue!
Avatar n tn I take my bolld sugars of a morning fasting and they are like 167-191, I take 1000 mg of janumet and 18 units of lantus before bed, of a morning I take 20 Units of lantus, 45 mg actos why am I having problems regulating my blood sugars, I also take 7 units of novalog after every meal??? Avatar f tn I want to do things as naturally as possible but I need to get this weight down as quickly and safely as possible because Diabetes and cancers run in my family (PCOS, as I've read, increases those risks). Tell me more about this ACTOS! Do you know what D-Pinitol or D-Chiro Inositol are and if they are safe?
Avatar n tn Just over the past 6 months or so, they gave him LANTUS, in addition to his meds. (Actos, Glypizide, Metaformin) He takes the meds in the morning and the LANTUS at night. Here is my problem. He has a lot of highs and lows. Just 3 weeks ago, his average was 115. This week a different story. He has been in the mid 200's and he has not changed his diet. This morning, before breakfast, his sugar was 337. He is very depressed and I feel so bad for him.
Avatar m tn However, common sense dictates that weight loss, if overweight, and correcting elevated cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood sugar should be beneficial in NAFLD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cirrhosis causes insulin resistance, a primary feature in type 2 diabetes. As insulin resistance progresses, it causes excess glucose to buildup in the blood, which leads to type 2 diabetes.
1523195 tn?1291322372 I have recently noticed that I have diabetes , I'm 40+ years old , I measured my sugar level at home and it ranges from 270 -370 when I'm fast ( 8-12 hours without eating and drinking) and when I after eating it also ranges from 250-270 . I went to the doctor to make full body analysis for diabetes and the blood sugar level was 290 , he prescribed me two tablets / day of Glucophage 1000mg and one tablet / day of ACTOS 30mg.
Avatar n tn We wish you the very best of health and hopefully a healthy baby if you wish to have one. Start with the weight loss and tight control over the glucose numbers and then work on the progesterone levels and see what happens.
Avatar f tn I took Actos and within a week started having stomach and left side pains. I stopped actos and 75% of the symptoms are gone but I did see my doctor who ordered a CT scan which was normal. My labs have all been normal except I did show 21% atypical lymphs. Mono test was negative and so was H pylori blood test. I suspect the Actos started my problems. I felt bloated and full, pain in one specific area on left side, stomach stopped growling, etc.
Avatar n tn "The Doctor and I have the blood sugar under control (89 to 130)" These numbers indicate control only if the former was derived from a fasting glucose test and the latter a postprandial test result. Other than that, they are not in "control". "a1c seems to keep in th range of 7.7 to 8.1" This says you average daily blood glucose level is 197 mg/dl to 211 mg/dl, basically suicidal. You have one foot in the door, if not step inside the door of diabetes complications.
Avatar f tn monday, (i am a diabetic, took sugar test said it was 203, for me that is high, current meds are actos, potassium pill, and bp pill) at work, i felt dizzy and nearly passed out, sat down, looking at my manager i started seeing a black cloud over my eyes, didnt completely black out.
Avatar m tn Active during the day but little activity during the evening and night. Anyone have information about switching the 30mg Actos + 4mg Glimepride to before dinner and the 2mg Glimepride at wake up in hopes of lowering the morning readings? Thank you.
